The three episodes are now available and can now be marathoned. And, to celebrate the launch of one of the most popular series today, we've separated here a list of curiosities and things you probably didn't know about the series.

Why “Black Mirror”? 4q20c

In an interview for the channel 4, from the United Kingdom, in December 2017, series creator Charlie Brooker spoke about why he chose to call the show Black Mirror. "What did I mean by that,” he said. “It's just that when a screen is off – the screen looks like a black mirror."

“Every TV, any LCD, every iPhone, any iPad – stuff like that – if you just look at it, it looks like a black mirror, and there's something cold and terrifying about that.

And that title was the best for the series. I mean, I don't know what else we could have called the series – 'Scary Hour of Technology'? It would have been a joke. (…) I kind of like the fact that people are watching this on their televisions or computers or cell phones. When the credits finish rolling and the screen breaks, they can see themselves reflected” – turning Black Mirror into a black mirror. "

Even so, the series is not against technology. 3f35h

In April of this year, Charlie Brooker went to Rio de Janeiro to participate in the Rio 2C conference and, together with his Black Mirror duo, Annabel Jones, the screenwriter gave some details about the series that is a worldwide success and that continues to gather fans around the world.

As the series addresses horrible situations happening because of or through technology, Brooker found it relevant to address that the real target of the series is not technology or technological innovations: “The problem is not the technology – not at all. The point is that we address the misuse of it in the series. I get upset when people say that Black Mirror is an anti-technology production; we just use it in a way, for example, other productions use supernatural aspects to terrify.”

And it's life that imitates art, not the other way around 6z73e

In the same at Rio 2C in which Charlie Brooker commented that technology is not the enemy, the creator of Black Mirror said that they are not used to being inspired by real life to create the episodes of the series that, because they are so real, make us say 'my, this is very Black Mirror'.

“We don't tend to look at the news happening around the world and think, 'What approach can we take to this in Black Mirror?' This almost always happens only later, when we look at episodes like, for example, The Waldo Moment and think about the election of Donald Trump.”

Another moment that made us think that the series can predict the future was the first episode, National Anthem, which was released in December 2011. The first episode shows the kidnapping of the English princess and, in order for her to be returned safe, the kidnapper demands for the Prime Minister to have sex with a pig on live television.

In 2015, news broke that people who had studied with the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, accused him of having participated in a college prank in which he would have to put his penis in the mouth of a pig's head (which was already dead). However, as the accusations were made after the episode aired, it's likely that Brooker really didn't know about this Cameron affair, which caused the first "meeeee, this is too Black Mirror".

It's not from Netflix n143f

Black Mirror debuted in December 2011 – but no, the series was not created by Netflix. The series was originally made for the UK channel Channel 4. The first two seasons, each with three episodes, were released on the British channel, as was the special Christmas episode.

In 2015, Netflix purchased the reproduction, exhibition and production rights for Black Mirror, which not only allowed it to place the series in its catalog, but also to order new episodes for Charlie Brooker and the production team. The streaming service requested 12 episodes, which were divided into two more seasons, in 2016 and 2017. The partnership worked so well that it lasts until today, with the new episodes being, yes, Netflix originals.

In addition to the cast that includes celebrities and renowned actors, the production of Black Mirror also received major stars in the creation and direction of some new episodes ordered by Netflix. One of them is Arkangel, which was directed by the actress and director Jodie Foster. Another is Nosedive, which was written by Rashida Jones e Michael Schur, from the renowned sitcom Parks and Recreation.

Why does the fifth season of Black Mirror only have three episodes? dy6t

As mentioned above, the number of episodes per season of Black Mirror increased when Netflix bought the series from Channel 4. After the change, the third and fourth seasons now have six episodes each, being released in 2016 and 2017. , respectively.

However, now, in season five, the number of episodes is back to three. Because? Well, according to Charlie Brooker in an interview with Digital Spy, the delay was caused by the Black Mirror interactive film Bandersntach: “Originally, Bandersnatch was a part of the fifth season. Striking Vipers, for example, we recorded before we started recording Bandersnatch."

“As we worked on the interactive film, we realized that Bandersnatch is the equivalent of doing an entire season. It was that [release the interactive film off-season] or making people wait longer. We could have made everyone wait, but we thought 'no, let's let everyone down first!'”.

And a Bandersnatch-style episode might be on the way 101h24

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Brooker confirmed that he intends to do another interactive episode of Black Mirror, in the same style as Bandersnatch: “while we were filming [the film], we were like, 'We're never going to do that again'. And then I think that just like giving birth, you forget about the pain and want to do it a second time!"

The fifth season is more optimistic 4t235y

In addition to the Season 4 episode Hang the DJ, Season 5 also debuted with the promise of being more upbeat. In an interview for the The New York Times in December 2018, series creator Charlie Brooker said that the fifth season will have “more optimistic episodes and stories rather than just dystopias."Have you watched it to see that it's true?

What Inspired The Miley Cyrus Episode Was… Miley Cyrus o2p1r

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Miley Cyrus spoke about her episode in Black Mirror and revealed that she is a huge fan of the series: “It's a story about women in the music industry. I understand that everyone goes through this, but I think for women in the industry… it's hard to be taken seriously. People think that if you're not wearing a bathing suit and singing pop music, no one will want to see you."

Miley will play a music star on the show who, just like in real life, lives in Malibu and is full of fans. But that's not the only coincidence: series creators Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones drew on Miley Cyrus' own experiences to create the episode's character Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too.

The new season has scenes shot in São Paulo 2r1d5

Have you watched the Striking Vipers episode of the new season? It's not a spoiler, but let's see if you'll notice: this episode shows several scenes from São Paulo. The recording team went to the capital of São Paulo and recorded images on Avenida Paulista, Avenida 9 de Julho, Viaduto Santa Ifigênia and the classic Edifício Copan, in addition to other images that show a little bit of the city.

Creator of Black Mirror also created a Brazilian series – or almost 2u3922

The successful Black Mirror duo has actually been around for 20 years. Before the series that was successful in the world, Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones were already known in the UK for the English series Dead Set, from 2008, which shows participants in a reality show as the only survivors of a zombie apocalypse.

And it is exactly this series that is used as the basis for the new Brazilian series on Netflix, Reality Z. Made in partnership with the production company Conspiração Filmes, the first season will have five episodes. The new series was even approved by the creators.

There are books with stories that can go into Black Mirror 2p4q6u

Are five seasons too little for you? If you want to get away from the “black mirror” (aka your television, cell phone, or computer), you can read the dystopian and scary stories of technology in the Black Mirror books.

The literary series is still being developed, but the first volume has already been completed, even though it has not yet been published. Edited by Charlie Brooker, the book features writer Cory Doctorow, known for his work in science fiction.

It's not meant to be a marathon 2b4d6j

As the series is on Netflix, many people think it can be marathoned. But, according to Charlie Brooker, it's not a good idea to watch all the episodes at once - even if the "next episode starts in 15 seconds" is too tempting.

Obama in Black Mirror? 1w1c3y

Many well-known artists have appeared in Black Mirror, but have you ever thought about seeing a former president in any of the series' episodes? In an interview with Yahoo!, Charlie Brooker said that he would like to see someone like Barack Obama in the next season of the series.

"Maybe we should cast someone like Barack Obama, he would be good.”, replied Brooker, after being asked which actor or actress he would like to work with. The series producer,  Annabelle Jones, joked with his colleague's response: "Shall we put him in an American version of the pig episode?" Brooker laughed: “It would immediately be a sexier episode. The series may have a musical episode 2mr1c

In an interview with Deadline this year, Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones were asked about a musical episode of Black Mirror - which doesn't exist, at least not yet. "There is room for everything“, replied Charlie Brooker.

"We had a conversation about what a musical episode of Black Mirror would be like.”, Brooker continued, but he did not elaborate on whether a musical episode will actually take place. Either way, he also didn't deny that a musical episode could happen. And speaking of Black Mirror, the lack of denial is too big a possibility to ignore.

The fifth season of Black Mirror is now available on Netflix. Check out the trailers for each of the new episodes:
