19 technologies that failed in the market 1gli

Not all companies get it right the first time. Some very large ones ended up creating technologies that failed in the market in recent years

We don't always live on success, whether personally or professionally. With this in mind, we separated 19 technologies that failed so you don't feel so bad about your everyday mistakes. After all, if big companies fail miserably in the manufacture of certain products, why would it be any different with us, mere mortals? Fortunately, many of these products are even funny and present somewhat different concepts, so to speak, while others just didn't reach the market standards in their respective times. Anyway, follow the list. 132d17

Big companies also produce technologies that have failed 2a3w3l

When we look at big companies like Samsung, Google, Apple e Amazon, we do not imagine that they have also made a big mistake in the past. Whether it's a terrible smartphone, a device that literally burned in the hands of s, or constant and failed attempts to create social networks that no one has used, uses or will use, big companies have had their setbacks, creating several technologies that have failed. As the one who forgives is God, especially when the defendants are multinational companies, we have separated some very funny products for you to feel better with that silly mistake at work.

Amazon 4r1230

Jeff Bezos may be many things – many of which I cannot speak publicly – but one of his biggest mistakes was trying to get Amazon into the smartphone market without rigorous research beforehand. O Fire Phone, the result of this naivety, was a disaster, with terrible performance, hardware poorly done and with even worse. Perhaps that explains why he only sells 30-odd thousand units in his unhappy months of life. What a shame, isn't it? Of course, for Amazon this means nothing, but it's a good start for technologies that have failed.

Privacy has been one of the biggest concerns in recent years, especially when it comes to companies that are known to sell data. Now imagine you buy an integrated security system, with cameras at the door and / or inside the house and hear, out of nowhere, a voice coming out of one of the cameras saying that you are going to die? Pretty much a low-budget horror movie, huh?

This is what happened to many s of the Amazon ring, company security system. failures in with caused it to be hacked by several people, who, of course, did as much as possible. From death threats to sexual harassment, extortion and the like, Amazon has had to step up its protection and, even today, faces lawsuits from a number of disgruntled consumers.

Apple 1b3j2x

Macintosh Portable 185j1e

Macintosh Portable, a real mess. (Image: Wikipedia)

Considered one of the first portable computers, perhaps the first, the portable Mac was launched in 1989 and kick-starts Apple's presence in failed technologies. Almost the size of a printer, the “notebook”, if we can call it that, bet on performance at the expense of size and price, in addition to running on batteries. If the bet was on performance, make a normal computer, not a giant boulder that ran on the environmental bane of batteries.

As if that kind of mistake wasn't enough to scare the consumer, the price scared away even the most assiduous fans of the company. He cost a painful 7500 dollars in season. It's no surprise to anyone that it was discontinued 2 years later, in 1991 – at that amount, you probably started your own company and had a margin of error to make a profit for at least 3 months.

Maps 3p47c

(Image: Apple)

Apple Maps was the company's disastrous attempt to compete with Google Maps. Released in 2012, it received more reviews than the last season of Game of Thrones and the finale of Lost combined. the maps came without pieces of cities, with old, wrong or poorly updated information. Needless to say, a lot of people lost their jobs in this game, about the same proportion as people who got lost using the service.

Even today, Apple developers still seek to redeem themselves by releasing constant updates to the company's service and improving it over the years, but hey, the damage has already been done. Anyway, if you own an iPhone, don't worry, the app is already much better than in that fateful year 2012 – maybe the end of the world got lost using Apple maps and didn't reach us? The reflection remains.

Newton 234350

Continuing with the second most famous apple in the world, which is second only to the one from Eden, we have right away the Newton, personal digital assistant or PDA (personal digital assistant), which is the acronym in English. Developed to be a kind of iPad, the Newton was a real fiasco. with unhappy 8 inches (ca. 20 cm) tall and nearly 5 inches (ca. 13 cm) wide, it was easier to hire a secretary or just take a notebook.

In addition to the lousy handwriting recognition, the icing on the cake was the exorbitant price of $700 – at least $695 more than a standard hardcover notebook. No wonder Steve Jobs cut the production of the Newton soon after returning to Apple, in the distant year of 1997. If he cuts his product himself, a sign that he deserves to be in the technologies that failed.

Pippin 123n3t

(Image: Wikipedia)

It's very likely that you've never heard of this one, especially in Brazil, but Apple tried its luck in the gaming business back in the 90s, with the Pippin. Created to be a kind of platform that connected to the internet, it, in theory, enabled educational programs and games at the same time; they wanted Pippin to be a little bit of everything, the famous jack of all trades, but unfortunately for Apple, he ended up not being much of anything.

Among the numerous problems present in this console dinosaur, the internet was terrible, almost no games ran, no serious developer wanted to get involved in creating educational programs on it and the price was absurd, reaching the mark of $600. If this was already abusive at the time, imagine the current conversion of that value.

Google pu1z

Google Glass 4m4hd

Ushering Google into the list of failed technologies is the most beloved VR headset of modern times, the Google Glass. Similar to the accessory worn by the Cookie character from Ned's school Survival Manual, gadgets was sold for a painful price of $1500.

The biggest problem, besides the price, was the concern with security and privacy issues, after all, Google is no longer very reliable about data, now imagine what the company could do with glasses? At the very least, record and take pictures without the bearer knowing. We may not be ready for that level of technology yet. Maybe that already happens and we just don't know. Many questions and inquiries, little success of the technological glasses.

Google Nexus Q w6553

google nexus
(Image: CNET)

Nobody knows for sure what the company's intention was in announcing the Nexus Q, which looked like a far worse version of what a Chromecast is today. It only connected to YouTube, Play Music and Play Video, with no possibility of switching. Seems a little out of date, doesn't it? Just because it is.

It alone cost 300 dollars, plus 400 for speakers and even more if you wanted to complement it with other peripherals. After reviews lousy journalists, the company said it would make improvements and re-release it at a later date, which never happened. And it will probably never happen either, given that it's 2021 and no signs of this technological aberration.

Google is a master at trying to create social networks to stand up to competitors. Focus on trying, because all so far have been a disaster worthy of failed technologies. Even the Orkut, which was successful in Brazil, was a failure abroad, which is why it was discontinued and now we are all forced to deliver data to Zuckerberg. In the end, it's a choice of who you want to sell your data to.

After the complete destruction of Orkut and the hope of Brazilians to have a happy and prosperous farm, we were awarded the Google Plus. I find it quite difficult to find a person in the circle of friends who has used the service seriously, or even who has accessed it once, or who has not even heard the name of the program.

Microsoft 4u5j18

Kin 26414k

(Image: Windows Central)

Just before Windows Phone, the Microsoft Kin came to life, only to lose it soon after. A funny mix of mobile, pay and anything else with a keyboard, the Kin is designed to be a device that connects people on social networks, even though it doesn't Twitter or YouTube.

There are rumors that those who worked on the project sabotaged everything by the arrival of Windows Phone, but that's theory for another time. Anyway, Kin has been discontinued SIX WEEKS after launch. It's about the same time it took me to realize I was in the wrong college course. That's what I call flop.

SPOTWatch 2x4c5e

(Image: Medium)

Microsoft's initiative was interesting: to create a line of useful products in the home environment and beyond. The first of these products was the SPOTWatch, which… well, it didn't work out very well, see the presence in the technologies that failed. Almost a predecessor to the Microsoft Band, which was also not very well received, the watch had MSN as its information portal. Miraculously, it lasted 4 years before being discontinued.

Let's face it, having MSN as an information portal wasn't the smartest move either. We all used it just out of obligation, as it appeared automatically when opening a page on the internet, but then we left the site with the same speed we entered.

The fact that Kin was a complete failure did not necessarily mean that the Windows Phone would be too. At least not in the minds of those responsible for creating it. Ledo mistake. Microsoft's smartphone was a catastrophe, losing in every way to competitors, more specifically to the iPhone, which triumphed without the slightest competition at the time.

Problems in time management, waste of expenses, such as the purchase of Nokia, lack of applications and an unresponsive operating system are just some of the problems faced by the tech giant, which skidded beautifully on this investment. It seems that all the subterfuge of sabotaging the Kin to the detriment of Windows Phone was worthless.

Zune 6t1ha

(Image: Engadget)

To finish off the list of technologies that failed at Microsoft, we have the Zune. Launched in 2006, the device was part of that wave of devices to listen to music in MP3 format. In theory, you could even connect with whoever was using it near you. In practice, however, this was not how it worked.

Perhaps if the iPod hadn't been released at the same time, the Zune would have some chance of competition, but as it didn't, it lost badly. Microsoft tried to turn it into a music store too, but that didn't work either, and the service ended in 2015, without many subscribers and also without many quality songs.

General 6i4ob

Missile alert in Hawaii o1k4n

You wake up on a Saturday morning and the first message on your cell phone is that a intercontinental missile will hit its state in 15 minutes. Worse than that, it's an official message from the government app, not least because tensions with another country were very high and the first target in an eventual war is where you live.

The scenario seems a little hopeless, doesn't it? Like in a war movie. In other words… #%$@! The problem is that the message was a false alarm that went off to every smartphone and television network in Hawaii, causing widespread panic and sending hundreds of people to emergency shelters. If that's not a clear sign of failing technologies, I don't know what is.

Betamax 4f5845

(Image: Pinterest)

His name is not much ed today, but the Sony's Betamax was the main competitor of VHS, back in the 80's. The technical quality of Sony's product was superior to that of VHS, but the recording time was shorter, an important factor in the consumer's decision, even more with the rise From sitcoms and other similar programs.

For a while, the Beta, as it was also affectionately called – not to be confused with the building stage of software or with the friendly (but angry) little red fish -, managed to compete in the market. However, over the years, VHS has matched in technical quality and there hasn't been enough marketing to turn buyers' minds around, ensuring a presence in technologies that have failed.

CD-I 5m1h2v

(Image: Wikipedia)

Philips' attempt to enter the world of consoles did not go very well. O CD-I, afraid of the heavy competition of the time, it was sold as a interface, just like Apple's Pippin. That is, it could contain educational programs, encyclopedias and classes and, at the same time, games. Let's face it, this insane mix can't work, right? Even so, Philips insisted and launched the product.

The problem is that, shooting in all directions like this, it is difficult to hit, especially with the technological level of the time. The quality of the games was horrible, just look at the spin-offs from Zelda, like The Wand of Gamelon, a real terror for fans of the franchise. If you dare, search about on youtube. Sured by computers and consoles, the CD-I was discontinued in 1998, to the delight of all sensible people.

Cyberpunk 2077 4343

(Image: CD Projekt RED)

The most absurd failure of recent years was the long-awaited RPG Cyberpunk 2077. The game came so bad and poorly optimized that the company is facing several legal actions, problems with platforms like Playstation Store and others, he got fines and even had to make an official apology where the owner seemed sadder than certain public figures when they discovered some truths about existence.

Could say more but you can see around everything that went wrong with the game.

Galaxy Note 7 61cl

(Image: The Verge)

Perhaps the most interesting contribution made by the Galaxy Note 7 was the definitive proof of the existence of spontaneous combustion. After all, it's not every day that cell phones just explode around and catch fire, especially on planes. Maybe a place in the technologies that failed is not enough, maybe it should be on the list of dangerous technologies, but…

Samsung was quick and replaced all models with new devices to fix the problem. However, cell phones continued to catch fire, which caused the company to recall the models and disable the software of the Galaxy Note 7, turning it into a shell. This saved the company's reputation, which today is one of the largest in the business.

Hoverboard 334d17

To finish with class – not so much – the list of technologies that failed, here is an absurd invention. Many thought that the hoverboards would be equivalent to those shown in science fiction, where the person climbed on top of a board and floated around. Technical aspects aside, it would hardly work – the failure of the hoverboards with wheels is there to prove it.

People took falls worthy of video clubbing by Faustão and there were even people who died for not being able to control the device properly. As if that wasn't enough, several models simply went up in flames due to the battery. A pity. Even so, there are still people who insist on continuing to walk around with them. Cross the street if you see one of these people – if you have time.

So, did you like the list of technologies that failed? See also the Showmetech video!
