Interview with the Senior Manager of Samsung Pay in Brazil 6g4u69

Now that you are more familiar with the subject, check out our interview with Paulo Cesar do Nascimento, the Senior Manager of Samsung Pay in Brazil. At the end of the text, we also make it available on video:

Paulo César do Nascimento, Senior Manager of Samsung Pay in Brazil.

We started by asking about the scenario of the mobile payments in Brazil. After all, with the arrival of strong competitors such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, it is interesting to know what the Samsung have to say about it.

And according to Paulo Cesar do Nascimento, an extremely positive point of this competition is the propagation of technology in the Brazilian market. That is, even if the does not get to use specifically the Samsung Pay, it will know what the service is for.

“The entry of competitors in this segment is important to increase the population's knowledge about the service and also helps the ecosystem as a whole to disseminate this technology more”, says the Senior Manager of Samsung Pay in Brazil.

Samsung Pay works with most national banks.

However, for the consumer to feel attracted by means of payment, it is necessary that he span multiple banks and don't make the service niche. Therefore, we asked about the amount of Samsung Pay partner banks on national soil.

Second Birth & Standardization, every major bank is already part of the service and, in addition, most digital banks have also ed the platform:

“I believe that bank coverage is almost full. We estimate that more than 90% of them have already signed up for our services and we are working to include regional banks as well”, he explains.

Card registration varies from bank to bank.

And as we know, before starting to use the Samsung Pay, you must first the card or cards to be used as a means of payment. So the next question says dealt with the registration process of these cards and whether he changes from bank to bank.

Although not difficult to do, the Senior manager explains that each bank requires a different registration and the ideal is follow the specific tutorial for each card:

“Actually, each bank has its own process. So, most of them publish a step-by-step guide on how to your card on their pages. That is, it is important to take a look at it beforehand and, if in doubt, call the call center of the bank in question”, Explain Paulo Cesar do Nascimento, which also states that most of these banks have dedicated service to card registration.

Purchases require authentication.

After all this process, the daily use of the mobile payment platform proves to be quite simple. However, we resolved clarify any doubts about it and asked how the purchase process takes place through the Samsung Pay.

In a simplified way, Birth & Standardization says that in most cases the biometric reader smartphone is enough to authorize payment via NFC. Still, he reiterates that each bank has its own policy security and in certain cases it is still necessary to use the card :

“For you to use the card in any payment activity, biometric authentication is required. This is yet another step that makes life difficult for anyone who tries to use their smartphone to make unauthorized purchases. In some cases, it is even necessary to enter the [of the card], but, normally, purchases under R$ 50 do not need the PIN”, says the Samsung Pay Senior Manager.

Samsung Pay is more secure than the physical card itself.

Still on the issue of Safety, we question whether the card data provided by the consumer is safe in extreme cases. And, giving very pertinent information, Paulo Cesar do Nascimento says that there are many barriers that make life difficult for those who want to steal data:

“The first important point is that the card number stored in the [Samsung Pay] digital wallet is not the same as the physical card. This means that the is even more protected against fraud.

In addition, each transaction, as already mentioned, requires authentication, be it biometric or iris. In other words, these are characteristics that are unique to you and that no one can copy”, he explains.

Brazil still needs to mature a lot for new means of payment to emerge.

Finally, our last question was related to the future of Samsung Pay in Brazil and what the company intends to bring back to the Brazilian market. And, according to the Senior manager, the financial system is always looking for new innovative options to make life easier for consumers:

“There are several very incipient initiatives for other forms of payment in Brazil. But they go through the same difficulties as any attempt to change habits by the population.

So, the financial system has sought to make consumers feel free to leave the house without having to rely on banknotes. In Brazil, this should still take some time, while countries like China tend to start doing it more easily”, Said Paulo Cesar do Nascimento, which explains the need for an entire ripening process by the national market and by the Brazilian itself.
