Now in February, the company GFI released a survey pointing out which operating systems are most vulnerable. The analysis was carried out based on data released by the US government in the National Vulnerability Database (NVD), or National Vulnerability Database in Portuguese.
According to the study, in 2014 alone, 7.038 new vulnerabilities were added to the NVD database, that is, about 19 new vulnerabilities every day. This represents almost double the 2013 numbers and strengthens the growth trend of recent years.
It is worth mentioning that the vast majority of failures are not from operating systems, but from third-party systems, which represent 83% of cases. Operating systems for 13% of vulnerabilities, while hardware failures only occur in 4% of cases.
Among operating system failures, the leading system is Apple OS X, followed by Apple iOS. The fact that Microsoft has several versions of Windows the flaws are pulverized, but they are almost the same amount of Apple's flaws.
Analyzing the vulnerabilities by platform, it becomes more evident to the technical tie between Apple and Microsoft and the low amount of Linux. It is worth mentioning that in this , the entire Android platform was considered to be Linux, and since Google's Mobile System has about 90% of the global mobile market, this is no small feat.
Speaking of vulnerabilities in third-party applications, the clear leader is the Internet Explorer browser, followed by its main competitors Chrome and Firefox. Next we have Java and the surprise on the list, Apple TV.
The survey serves to make it clear that there is no safe system. The important thing is to keep your system always up to date and use antivirus when applicable. Other than that, behavior is the most fundamental for security, as a secure system is useless when the authorizes the installation of any unknown application.
