The American magazine Billboard published a list of the 500 best pop songs of all time in celebration of 65 years of the Billboard Hot 100, the chart that has been a reference for the biggest hits in the music industry. It is worth noting that the commemorative selection was not limited only to the pop genre, but focused on songs that brought the broader concept of popular music. See how the vehicle decided to make the list and check out everyone chosen! 2m2f14

Billboard's Top Pop Songs 6p4j1j

in addition to the traditional pop (from the most bubblegum to the most complex), artists from different musical styles, including R&B, rap e rock were also recognized and included in the list. A Billboard brought the 500 most pop songs in history since its chart, the Billboard Hot 100, arrived in the world 65 years ago. To make the list, songs must have appeared on the Hot 100 at least once, but this is not the only criteria for the ranking.

The team responsible considered the best and most popular songs, those that illustrate the potential and essence of pop music. Due to the vast period of dozens of years and the desire to represent different artists, the vehicle was limited to the inclusion of songs from a single main artist to three tracks maximum — that is, Michael Jackson will appear “only” three times, for example.

How are we defining “pop songs”, you might ask? Well, this is a little difficult: one of the reasons pop can be difficult to summarize is because there is no real sonic or musical definition for it.

Billboard

While there are common elements in many of the biggest pop songs, “pop” means “popular” first and foremost, and practically any song that achieves sufficient popularity — whether rock, dance, rap, R&B, country, reggaeton, or a combination of styles — can be considered a pop song.

That said, the “pop” aspect of this project played a crucial role in ranking the tracks. A Billboard states that he was looking for songs that fit his vision of pop music — captivating, energetic, emotional, meticulously crafted e immediately memorable. If a song did not clearly fall into the pop music category based on these criteria, it could be ranked lower compared to past playlists, or even be excluded.

On the other hand, if a song made them think “This is pop music!” whenever it was heard, even if it didn’t fall into the type of music generally praised by critics on all-time lists, it was still guaranteed a little more prominence here. Given the context of criteria, let's go to the list!
