Finnish cell phone maker Nokia released its financial results for the last quarter of 2012 (Q4/2012). The company reported net revenue of $10,73 billion and a profit of US$ 585 million at the end of last year, a result quite top to the previous quarter (Q3/2012) in which it suffered a loss of 754 million dollars. Part of the increase in revenue is attributed to the good performance of the infrastructure division Nokia Siemens Network.
In the field of mobile devices, the news was mixed: although sales of the Lumia line with Windows Phone 8 have grown more than 50% compared to the previous quarter, to 4,4 million units, the total number of smartphones sold by Nokia, including 2,2 million devices with the Symbian operating system, fell 66% compared to the same period in 2011. According to the manufacturer, 14,3 million of Lumias were sold throughout last year.
The poor performance in the other quarters led Nokia to close 2012 with a total loss of 3,06 billion dollars. The company also announced that for the first time in 143 years, it does not intend to pay dividends to its shareholders. Nokia's shares listed on the NYSE ended the day (24/01) with a drop of 8,19%.
