ShowmeCAST begins with a small overview of the history of Activision, considered the first major company to create third party games, that is, games that would work on more than one console and not exclusively. In addition, a company founded to develop game ports by a group of university students also comes into play: Blizzard. Years later, the two studios would become a reference for the games industry, responsible for iconic franchises, which marked entire generations.
Between 2007 and 2008, Blizzard and Activision merged into a commercial deal, creating a large game development conglomerate, and that's when things start to go wrong. Between 2010 and 2021, a series of complaints began to permeate the company's corridors, with allegations of misconduct at work by some employees and even extreme cases of suicide.
The situation became even more public when the California Department of Fair Housing and Employment started a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, under the context that the company was aware of and connived with male harassing, sexual abuse and bullying behaviors against women. . There was the “frat boys” culture, or frat boys, in which a group of men drank and played video games during service while delegating their duties to women.
One of the accusations also commented on the “Cosby Room”, the hotel room of one of the company's senior employees named after former and convicted comedian Bill Cosby. At another point, a maid committed suicide on a work trip after having intimate photos leaked by a “partner” who held a high position spread the content.
