Is the Oculus Quest 2 still the best VR headset on the market? Find out the answers to this and more questions in our review.

With the recent news that, in the very near future, we will be living more and more in virtual reality, it's a great time to revisit the success that is Oculus Quest 2 and analyze: is it still worth buying one?  1g4j1k

With the rise of virtual reality technologies, many products have been favored by the gaming community. Whether you want to dive headfirst into the metaverse, to experience virtual reality games on the go or even to play the best VR games on PC, Quest 2 guarantees to be the most versatile option on the market.

So, in this brief review, we are going to punctuate three main topics: the device as a portable VR console, as a VR headset for PC and also as a productivity gadget. Check it out below!

Released in October 2020, Quest 2 is still early in its lifespan. But according to recent internet rumors, a new line of VR headsets from Meta — the former Facebook — is already in production. The name of the project would be Cambria and we will probably know more about it later this year.

This worried current Quest 2 s, and especially those who intended to acquire a logo soon. After all, with the entry of a new top-of-the-line headset, it might not be worth guaranteeing the current model anymore. In addition, other options on the market have drawn attention such as the unprecedented PS VR 2, from PlayStation, which should be released soon.

Is it still worth betting on Quest 2? Well, if you want to buy one, don't worry. The Quest 2 is a product that aims to be low-cost and highly competitive, costing just $299, the same price as a next-gen video game console.

With more than 10 million units sold, this is the best-selling virtual reality product in history. The reason for its success, as well as its more affordable value, lies in Meta's choice to save on device hardware.

The Oculus Quest 2 is the second in the company's line of handheld consoles, succeeding the Oculus Quest. The design is very similar to its predecessor, but this time the product is white with a plastic finish.

The headset itself has a headgear system made of fabric and the entire product weighs just 500 grams. The console uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor, which is Snapdragon's specific line focused on virtual reality. In addition, the Quest 2 still has 6 GB of RAM, a 50% increase over the previous generation and is available on models with 128GB and 256GB of storage

To close the product specifications, he has 1832×1920 resolution per eye on an LCD , reaching up to 120Hz screen refresh rate. It is still possible to adjust the IPD — physical interpupillary distance — in 3 different distances to suit different types of s.

Os Oculus Touch controls they are the third generation of the company and are very well finished. In addition to touch sensors on all buttons, the control arrangement is very natural. It is also worth noting that the headset does not need tracking base stations, as all the tracking of controls and movements is done entirely via 4 cameras positioned in front of the headset.

Before going into details about console exclusive games or its usability on PC, let's talk about what the experience is like inside the Oculus Quest 2. We need to warn you that my experience with the product is recent, with only 2 months of use, so take that into .

The first impression you get with Quest 2 isn't exactly the most pleasant: to use the console you need to link your Facebook/Meta . For many this may not seem like a problem, but it is still worth ing that the company had several scandals of privacy and access to the information of its s' s.

After the first impression, Quest 2 welcomes you with the safe zone adjustment and leaves you free to explore applications, including the incredible tutorial game that serves to show the device's capabilities.

As soon as the tutorial starts, it's impossible not to fall in love with the virtual reality world and all its possibilities. Once finished, you are free to purchase your own library of games and have fun. And that's where the good part starts, the console has basically infinite options for games in handheld mode and they increase even more when connected to a PC.

During these two months, I had the opportunity to understand the device's limits and mine. The Quest 2 may feel extremely comfortable, but in long sessions the strap that holds the headset to your head can become cumbersome enough to end your session. Another negative point is the battery, allowing game sessions of, on average, 2 hours, making you play and recharge the console many times, decreasing the life of the lithium battery inside the product.

Other than that, the Quest 2 experience was almost flawless, with flawless tracking of the controls and my hands. It still has its safe zone, which prevents you from destroying your house around it. The security mechanisms are impeccable, just double tap the side of the console to activate the four cameras and see the real world around you to move around without the risk of breaking anything.

The Oculus Quest 2, recently renamed Meta Quest 2, is a product that aims for versatility, being able to be played anywhere with the internal game library, which is full of exclusives and other titles. You can also connect it to a computer powerful enough to play PC-only games.

I've used the Quest 2 in both situations enough to be able to say that this is a virtual reality headset that decided to embrace the world, and it did. It's certainly no better than the best PC VR glasses like the Valve Index, but it also costs less than half the price.

With that in mind, the expectations I had were low, but even running on a PC with an RTX 3060, I managed to run the Half-Life: Alyx hitting the 90 fps I had on the Quest screen refresh rate.

The experience on a computer depends, of course, on its power and a USB 3.0 cable, or a very strong internet connection — in this case, Wi-Fi 6 is recommended. I mostly used USB because I don't have a router with Wi-Fi 6, so the wireless experience on the Quest 2 could not be fairly evaluated.

However, it was playing Beat Saber or himself Half-Life: Alyx that I had the best experiences with the console. As much as the games on the Oculus store are very well optimized, counting on the extra processing power of a video card in games like Eleven Table Tennis made all the difference. In portable mode I found myself playing fitness games like The Thrill of the Fight, a boxing game that is a real aerobic workout.

But Quest 2 isn't just a video game console, and the existence of the metaverse reinforces that. I didn't have the opportunity to hold meetings on the console, but I used it a lot as my virtual desktop to work and watch series on Netflix.

It may not be my primary use right now, but Meta is clearly trying to increase the Quest 2's compatibility for everyday and productivity use.

Whether to use only as a console stand-alone or connect to a PC, the Quest 2 is still one of the best Virtual Reality products available today, when we balance accessibility and cost-effectiveness.

Also, if you want to venture into a model in 2022, you will rarely run out of online groups to meet in community games, due to the large number of players still active.

The console was not officially launched in Brazil and can only be found via importers and on sites such as Amazon itself, which delivers the product safely. Here in Brazil you can buy an Oculus Quest 2 normally around R$3.000,00, on Amazon, on average.
