A Alcatel – relatively new in the gadget market in Brazil – has already had several smartphones on the market since 2011, when it entered the Brazilian market. Now, it enters the fray in the tablet segment with the sale of OneTouch Evo 7, a device produced in Manaus (AM) that fits the “Lei do Bem” to obtain tax reductions and become more competitive.
We received a unit Alcatel OneTouch Evo 7 for tests and the result you can check in the review below!
Kit 5xh6t
Upon opening the box, we immediately see the OneTouch Evo 7, hermetically sealed in the package. Below it, we find the plug charger and the manuals. At the end are the microUSB USB data cable, the headphone jack and the 3G module. A criticism of the product packaging goes to the material that brings the tablets as well as accessories, which is plastic. The classic cardboard or other material could be used that demonstrates better finishing and a greater care with the experience.
Layout and Finishing 3z3q69
O Alcatel OneTouch Evo 7 it has a rubberized finish, much of the back is coated with a material similar to aluminum. At first, you even have the impression that the tablet's battery can be accessed and removed through this “cover”, but it is fixed (even if there is a step in the design, do not force it).
At the top are the volume buttons and power/lock screen, both with a brushed steel finish and paint finish. You can see that the finish is painting only when you see it up close, showing the quality of manufacturing and finishing.
When holding the device horizontally (widescreen), at the top of the screen is the front camera of the device. ing that it only has this camera and not a rear one, like its Android competitors. At the bottom are the microUSB plug and the headphone plug.
Turning the device to the vertical, at the bottom left there is a small notch in the tablet housing, where through it you can remove the frame from the back. This is necessary to gain access to the microSD card slot and the slot where the sim card is stored. The frame, both to be removed and replaced, is well finished and the fittings are tight. Eventually, during fitting, it may be that some part is loose, not because of a manufacturing problem, but because there are many fitting points around the frame, which also demonstrates special care so that this part is not easily displaced.
Hardware 5l4oe
The hardware of Alcatel OneTouch Evo 7 It's not the same as high-end devices, but it's pretty reasonable. Rockchip RK2918 processor with 1GHz U ARM Cortex A8 and the ram memory 1GB DDR3 they do the trick in virtually all the most common tasks. Until then TFT 7” has a resolution of 600×1024 pixels (capacitive), watching a movie on Netflix before turning your head on the pillow is even pleasant, as well as reading a book on the Kindle app or any other you prefer.
The device's screen has a good touch response and good accuracy, both for navigation and typing. The resolution is not the most absurd, but you can't really feel the lack of definition of the image in a more everyday use.
The tablet has only one front camera, 0,3 megapixel, which can be used for video conferences (with Hangouts, Skype or other applications). Depending on its quality, risking taking a photo with the device can end up being a sham, both because of the quality and the location of the camera (which makes you not see the photo before ing, unless it is a photo own).
The device, being exclusively sold by TIM, is already equipped with a 3G modem, fortunately unlocked for use by any operator. An interesting thing is the fact that the modem is not fixed, it can be removed when necessary (even to put a sim card in the modem it is necessary to remove it from the device). On this same “board” is the memory expansion slot. O Alcatel OneTouch Evo 7 uses the already well-standardized microSD memory card, ing cards up to 32GB in capacity.
It also has WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and bluetooth 2.0 with ADP and the 3G HSDPA modem s frequencies of 850Mhz, 1800Mhz, 1900Mhz and 2100Mhz, thus having the availability of 3G use by all Brazilian operators.
Speaking of storage space, it can be considered a disappointment that the device has 4GB of internal space but only 1GB available for installing applications. In the case of a heavier use or for games (I installed Asphalt 8 for performance tests) it was necessary to uninstall practically everything I had already placed, since the game has almost 900MB. A larger internal space available to the would not be frowned upon, but this is not a problem that denigrates the use of the device.
Operational system 1a5246
O OneTouch Evo 7 brings version 4.0.4 (Ice Cream) of the Android system, a version that can even be considered a bit outdated for the most technology aficionados - since it was released in October/2011 - but that, for a simpler use and common, it does the trick.
Ice Cream's integration with the device's hardware is very good. However, according to a greater approach in the Performance section, in some moments of more intense and heavy use, with applications that demand more from the device, the system gave some stutters. Even in moments of more intense use, some applications stopped responding, and it was necessary to wait for a few minutes until the device reorganized its memory and the application was used again.
Bad news (for now?) is about updates. As soon as I turned on the device for the first time, the first thing I did was check the automatic updates and the website and in both cases I didn't find any system updates. There is no official information from Alcatel about future system updates, so I advise you not to wait too long for that. A feather.
Apps 15250
Due to the operating system (Android Ice Cream 4.0.4), all applications that require Android 4x or higher run smoothly on the device.
An interesting thing that I noticed was about the native applications, previously installed on the Alcatel One Touch Evo 7. Among these, it is worth mentioning the AVG Antivirus PRO (just waiting for activation) and the OfficeSuite Viewer. Due to the more corporate and professional approach of the device, nothing is fairer than already preparing the for it, including an application to view Word (doc and docx), Excel (xls and xlsx) and Power Point (ppt and pptx) files. , in addition to viewing PDF files and having the option to your version PRO, which enables the functions of creating and editing these files.
It is also worth mentioning that the device comes with a series of applications from TIM (exclusive reseller), such as the well-known “Meu TIM” and “Portal TIM”.
Performance and Battery 593ay
As already mentioned in the Hardware section, the performance of the Alcatel One Touch Evo 7 It is very satisfying for simple everyday tasks. Reading emails and books, accessing the internet and watching movies are tasks well performed by him.
Eventually, due to more intensive use (resulting in more applications open and used simultaneously), the device ends up stuttering and some applications that consume more resources freeze. But it's nothing that is too absurd and happens often. Using the device daily ends up creating the habit of always keeping it open only what is necessary, thus avoiding this problem.
A negative point to be raised concerns the headphones included in the original kit of the Alcatel One Touch Evo 7. If, on the one hand, I thought the idea was brilliant (since today they are taking this item – for me – so essential even from the kits of some smartphones), on the other hand, the quality of the available headphones is far from ideal. The headphones do not have a good definition of bass, and the mids and treble end up left over, leaving the audio strident at various times. I believe that an improvement in this area would not hurt anyone.
The only real disappointment with the device was due to the battery. Because it's a tablet (and because I have previous experience with several models of iPad), I expected the battery to last longer, especially in standby. On more average usage (emails, rss feed, Hangouts and Kindle books) I got a total of 11 hours of use. Watching videos on Netflix, with just over 2 hours the device's battery was already close to 60%!
Another thing I noticed was that in standby (but with all app notifications on, as well as app auto-update), the device battery didn't reach 3 days. For comparison purposes only, the iPad in the same characteristics reaches 15-20 days!
Price and availability 1s705x
As already mentioned earlier, the Alcatel One Touch Evo 7 is for sale exclusively by TIM (although the 3G modem is unlocked for use on any carrier). According to the operator's website, the price is R$619,00. Not bad for a 3G device that came to compete with several illegal imports, in addition to its competitors, all between R$ 950 and 1.00,00.
Conclusion 60664y
O Alcatel One Touch Evo 7 is a good move by Alcatel in Brazil in the tablet market. The device is robust, with reasonable hardware, a good kit of accessories and has everything to finish off many of those who think of having a tablet with a more affordable price, smaller – and therefore easier to carry. It can be useful for many everyday situations.
Of course, like every new thing, it needs to be improved in many points. But for those who fit the profile of the device, it's worth the investment!
