Just as Amazon, Alibaba operates in several other sectors, with businesses in the health area, for example. Taking advantage of all this expertise, the Chinese group trained Artificial Intelligence algorithms to detect the presence of the COVID-19 coronavirus in potentially infected patients.

Detection is done on CT scans of the patient's chest. With AI, the system does an image check and presents the result in just 20 seconds. For that, the Alibaba trained on images and data about 5.000 confirmed coronavirus cases.
This new algorithm can alleviate the pressure in hospitals, since the answer is given in a few seconds. Generally, the healthcare professional needs five to 15 minutes to “manually” analyze the CT scan of a suspected patient and provide the clinical diagnosis. Without Artificial Intelligence, the doctor will have to check more than 300 tomographic images.
The system has already been tested in hospitals in China, and currently, at least 100 health facilities are operating with the group's Artificial Intelligence. Qiboshan Hospital in Zhengzhou, Henan Province was the first facility to receive the new diagnostic tool from the Alibaba.
