This week, Claro announced that it is making available in Brazil the 5G DSS, the first “taste” that Brazilians may have of the power of 5G for mobile navigation. O showmetech had the opportunity to test Claro's 5G first hand, and we are going to explain to you how it works. 6c29c
What is 5G DSS? 2f5m1q

O 5G DSS is a new technology that Claro is bringing to Brazil in partnership with Ericsson, which allows the company to use the same 4G internet frequencies to offer much higher connection speeds to its customers.
This is possible through technology DSS (acronym for Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, or Dynamic Spectrum Sharing in Portuguese), a software solution that allows the sharing of frequencies that are already used for Personal Mobile Service (SMP).
With this solution, it is possible to send two different types of signals through the same frequency, providing the 4G internet signal (also known as LTE) and also an internet signal. 5G DSS for customers who already have a smartphone with technology .
this internet 5G DSS It will have connection speeds up to 12x faster than conventional 4G, allowing s to and faster or watch high quality videos via streaming without stuttering.
In our tests with the technology, we achieved a speed of 350 Mbps. This value is higher not only than the company's 4G maximum speed (which reaches a maximum of 100 Mbps) but also that of the 4.5G (which reaches a maximum value of 300 Mbps).
Is 5G DSS the official 5G? 2h3654
In a nutshell: no. Like 4.5G, the 5G DSS is an alternative found by Claro to offer its customers higher internet speeds before installing the entire 5G infrastructure in Brazil. Therefore, this option is like a “taste” (or a “free sample”) of what 5G technology will be.
In the same event where we tested the 5G DSS we were also able to test what the official 5G will be, and you can clearly see the difference between the two. This test was done by connecting the cell phone to a test base that uses a frequency of 3,5 GHz (one of those that have already been reserved by Anatel for the exclusive use of 5G), with which we were able to reach a connection speed of 1Gbps using the Motorola edge, the latest smartphone from Motorola released in the country.
For now, there is still no forecast for when the “official” 5G will be released in Brazil. Although the frequency bands in which the network will operate have already been separated, it is not yet known when their auction will take place, which will allow operators to acquire permission to use these frequencies for commercial purposes. This auction should have taken place in March, but it was postponed due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus and since then a new date has not yet been set.
In which regions will 5G DSS be available? 1bx5c

According to Claro, the signal 5G DSS will be available in the regions of the country that have the highest traffic demand – that is, in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
In São Paulo, the technology will initially be available on Avenida Paulista and in the Jardins region, and over the next few weeks it should also be extended to the neighborhoods of Campo Belo, Vila Madalena, Pinheiros, Itaim, Moema, Brooklin, Vila Olímpia, Cerqueira César , Paraíso, Ibirapuera, Santo Amaro and to the region of Avenida Berrini.
In Rio de Janeiro, the first locations with coverage will be in the neighborhoods of Ipanema, Leblon and Lagoa, and over the next few weeks the service should also be expanded throughout the waterfront region (from Leme to Barra da Tijuca), including by Jardim Oceânico, Joá, São Conrado and Copacabana.
The sign 5G DSS It will also be made available by Claro at the headquarters of Central Única de Favelas (CUFA) and at Instituto Pró-Saber (São Paulo branch), both in Paraisópolis (São Paulo). In addition to the internet, Claro will also make computers available for children and teenagers in the community to do schoolwork and participate in online classes.
More information about the coverage areas of the 5G DSS can be found in Claro website.
Do I need to subscribe to a special plan to access 5G DSS? 6v1653

Not. Claro stated that all you need to take advantage of this technology is to be a customer of the company (that is, to have a Claro chip) and to use this chip in a cell phone that s 5G DSS – besides, of course, being in a region that has coverage of this type of signal.
If all these criteria are met, the 5G DSS will be accessed automatically by the cell phone, without the need to make any type of configuration or contract a special plan, with the navigation counting for the same 4G data limit of the 's plan.
Which smartphones 5G DSS technology? 2c1d13

Among the smartphones officially launched in Brazil, only the Motorola edge – which was the device we used in the test with Claro – is prepared to recognize 5G networks, but there are some other devices that can be found abroad, such as the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, the LG V60 ThinQ 5G, and the versions of the Galaxy S20 line that have for 5G networks (which is not the case for any of the Brazilian models of the device).
But care must be taken with devices purchased outside of Brazil: despite being compatible with the 5G, they may no longer work once the official 5G network is installed in the country.
This is because some of the separate frequencies for the use of 5G here are not the same as those used abroad, so it is possible that, when buying a 5G cell phone made for the US or European market, even though this device s network, it was not designed to capture this signal on the same frequencies that will be used here, and therefore it may not recognize them once all the official infrastructure is deployed here.
