
A new online scam is circulating on the Brazilian network. This is an email, supposedly from the WhatsApp, which promises to use the instant messaging application for the PC. In practice, the objective is to install a Trojan (Trojan Horse) on s' machines, aimed at stealing personal banking information. 351f32
The email used by cybercriminals offers WhatsApp for PCs for free and suggests that the the application from a link (as shown above). the laboratory of ESET identified that the supposed executable file – called “Whatsapp” – is a malicious code.
Once executed, the system s another malicious code: Win32/Spy.Banker.AALL. It is a Trojan capable of stealing personal information, specifically, related to bank details. According to ESET experts, surveys show that hundreds of people have already been infected by the malware.
For Raphael Labaca Castro – Awareness & Research Coordinator at ESET Latin America, s need to be careful not to fall for this type of scam. “If the proposal is very good, unusual or dubious, it is advisable to be suspicious before clicking and that the information is true”, he warns.
The application WhatsApp can only be used officially in smartphones (iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone).
