Os taxi drivers celebrated much outside the Chamber. There was a big fireworks with more than 10 thousand shots financed by taxi drivers, unions of the category and the councilor Adilson Amadeu (PTB), author of the project.
In a press release, the Uber released a note on the result of the vote, transcribed below:
Unfortunately, in their decision to approve Bill 349/14 on a second vote, the councilors of São Paulo gave in to pressure from one category and ignored the interests of society. The text of the project has changed, and now it has an article that states that studies will be conducted to improve the legislation on individual transport and the compatibility of new services and technologies with the taxi service. We believe that debate is the way to use technology at the service of the city and guarantee citizens' right to choose. The bill voted in São Paulo is not yet law.It is important to that the istrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) released a broad study stating that the services provided by apps such as Uber do not have economic elements that justify their ban. In the same week, a Public Treasury Court in São Paulo denied yet another request for an injunction that tried to prevent Uber's activities.Attempts to ban technology applied to transport have been frequent in Municipal Legislatures. However, the Executive has vetoed these bills for considering them unconstitutional. In the Federal District, for example, Governor Rollemberg vetoed the Bill, recognized as unconstitutional by the OAB-DF, which would limit the scope of innovation in the Federal District's transport policies. Mayor Luciano Rezende, from Vitória-ES, declared that he will veto a bill ed by the city's City Council that aimed to bar services such as Uber's.
Councilwoman Sandra Tadeu (DEM) says she will file a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (I) to investigate the sale of taxi licenses in Sao Paulo city. she's over boo by the taxi drivers outside.
