There's also cool news coming out of CES 2024 for retro game fanatics! This is the case with the announcement of Mega 95, a new laptop from Hyperkin which promises to bring all the fun of Sega's much-missed 16-bit console to anyone looking for a way to enjoy nostalgia without spending a lot. 1i69t

It is not today that the Hyperkin brings the experience of playing an older console into the hands of its consumers. Previously, she launched the SupaBoy, which uses cartridges Super Nintendo, providing high quality 16-bit gameplay wherever the is.
Now, it's time for the Sega genesis — or as it is better known in Brazil, Japan and Europe, the Mega Drive — with the announcement of Mega 95 made during this year's CES. In the same way as the SupaBoy, the Mega 95 makes use of tapes from Sega's 16-bit console, offering the same tabletop video game experience in the palms of video game aficionados retro games.
Although many details about the new laptop have not yet been announced, the portal The Verge had access to the prototype of the device at CES and, according to them, the Mega 95 appears to be basically a portable version of the system MegaRetronN HD, launched by Hyperkin in 2018.
Even without knowing in detail how the new laptop will run Mega Drive cartridges, it is possible to extrapolate, thanks to the similarities with devices already launched by Hyperkin. They work by emulating games through hardware, and the overall quality ends up being between that of a software emulator and something similar to what Hyperkin's competitor, the Analogue, offers with his dear Mega Sg.

In addition, there are additional connectors for additional controls, to play together with friends and family. Many of the best Mega Drive games have multiplayer modes, so this feature will certainly please many of its future buyers.

This all sounds very good, doesn't it? Unfortunately, Hyperkin did not disclose the price of the Mega 95, but based on the SupaBoy's label, it is quite possible that it will end up costing the same U$119,99, around R$588, a more affordable option when compared to the luxury portable Analogue Pocket, which costs no less than R$ $3, needs to be purchased through import and is currently out of stock from its manufacturer.
The portable video game market grows every day and it is not surprising that the retro niche is one of the most targeted by manufacturers like Hyperkin. Devices like the Mega 95 are becoming increasingly common among alternative options for those looking to enjoy the nostalgia of classic games without having to look for the original consoles, which, in order to have HD image and sound quality, need to undergo modifications or depend on third-party devices, exponentially increasing the cost of the game.
On the other hand, even options that use updated technology do not always do the job, offering lower quality when compared to the original console. Laptops like Mega 95, however, taking into Hyperkin's history with other handheld consoles like the SupaBoy, they become more than convenient options, as they balance the quality of the emulation with the price that late fans are willing to pay.
