Following the announcement at CES 2021, we spoke with a spokesperson to better understand LG's MiniLED and OLED technologies

Often, the products d on the CES, the world's largest technology fair where the main technology announcements take place, bring several concepts, being only displayed with the proposal to steal the public's attention. Since the hardware it may just be a prototype and it would take a while to reach the stores, those who stay tuned to the event are used to imagining that those novelties will not be easily accessible. 3z3c3n

Breaking the routine, the LG announced brand new screen technologies, an updated operating system and even had room to reinvent a remote control (loved by many). The new lines of Smart TV They have basic, intermediate and luxury models, in resolutions ranging from 4K to 8K. We talked with the Peter Valery, who is LG's TV area manager and head of strategic partnerships, who explained these news to us in detail.

LG's new lineup of OLED TVs 463oi

To better understand all the lines, it is interesting to first see how the nomenclature of these models works. Making everything more intuitive, LG decided to organize LG's OLED TV portfolio in numerical and alphabetical separation. Since the releases are of the year 2021, the new models will have the number one. The separation by letters follows the order increasing, so the most basic and intermediate OLED lines are “A” and “C” and the one is the “G” line.

Starting with the intermediaries, the great differential of the models C series is the screen size. with the smallest having 48 inches, one of the brand's goals is to bring the same quality of a 55-inch LG OLED to those who have a reduced space at home. Pedro better counts the proposals of the C line:

“It will be our product to captivate the public and be able to show the great differentials of an OLED; are diverse Features that you can get on a 48-inch OLED television, (…) however, even now, those who play on the computer will be able to use this television as a day-to-day monitor, as well as to be a gamer monitor.”

Pedro Valery, TV area manager and head of strategic partnerships at LG

Also aimed at gamers, LG's OLED TVs feature HDMI 2.1 inputs, with a response time of less than 1 millisecond, perfect for those looking to enjoy action games, for example. They also have the technology NVIDIA G-SYNC, which brings more fluidity to the game, and has a resolution of up to 8K, at 60 frames per second.

In contrast to this midline, we have more basic models, which are part of the line A. The main differences are that the C-line has 4 HDMI inputs and a refresh rate of 120 hertz, while the A models will have 3 inputs and follow a frequency of 60 hertz. It also leaves out the prominent features aimed at the gamer audience, so it's a television more aimed at the audience that wants to have the LG OLED experience, but doesn't want the complete package.

In addition, LG will also launch smart TVs from G line. The letter G is from Gallery, which in Portuguese means “Gallery”. This is a reference to the fact that the models have very thin screens, with a design that is close to the wall. talking about the , it got even brighter. We have the arrival of OLED Evo, a new LED .

It is present in the G1 line that we are going to launch in 2021; what changes is that we will have a restructuring of the composition of the OLED pixels and, consequently, this new manages to achieve a superior brightness when compared to the of other lines.

As Pedro explains, the OLED Evo s have a new technology that improves the light output when it es through the layers of the TV, being an exclusive technology of the G series models. powerful processor. As an LG standard, the Alpha 7 e Alpha 9 are present on all models. They will continue with the 9th generation Alpha 4 on 8K TV models (for LG OLED G-line and C-line), and some products in the OLED A-line and NanoCell line will be the 7th-generation Alpha XNUMX.

There was an increment with the new generation Alpha that we used to get on the third generation Alpha 7. Now he recognizes faces so he could get a better picture. Now in the fourth generation, he will be able to recognize faces and objects (…) through the deep learning will understand what that object is and will reproduce accordingly

Complements Pedro Valery.

It is worth ing that LG's OLED TVs should be launched here in Brazil by the end of the first half of 2021, with models of 48, 55, 65 and 77 inches. The exact prices and dates have not yet been released by LG.

QNED Mini LED Line 5v3c6w

Just below LG's OLED line we have the QNED TVs, whose big difference is the Mini LEDS . Pedro also explained this innovation to us: “they are much smaller LEDs than those currently available on the market, so we will be able to have a much larger application“. As an example, we have a current 86-inch screen that uses the full array of LED. It arrives at the hundreds of LEDs applied to the backlight (backlight layer) and generates a hundred lighting control zones. With the use of the Mini LED, this same structure in an 86” QNED TV with Mini LED will have about 30 thousand Mini LEDs to make this lighting.

This technology, introduced late last year, is an evolution of LCD televisions, making the devices deliver greater contrast and an even more vibrant color gamut. QNED models have 3 s: the first with Mini LED, the second that is responsible for the dimming zones and the third that brings technology Quantum NanoCell Color of quantum dots. who knows the smart TVs from LG may have found that name familiar, after all, NanoCell is another successful basic line from the manufacturer.

"That's why the name is QNED Mini LED. So when we talk about 'QNED', we talk about Quantum NanoCell; the Mini LED is the backlight that this TV will use“, explains Peter. LG has already announced that QNED Mini LED TVs will be available starting this year, in 4K and 8K resolutions, starting from 65 inches up to 86 inches. NanoCell, on the other hand, comes with models from 50 to 86 inches.

When we asked LG how this new addition compares to what's on the market today, it was clear that the competition is going to have to work hard to get close to LG's vast array. One of the smallest screens is the 88-inch one, being “equivalent to our competitor's QNED, are the QLED Neo TVs“. So it is understood that QLED Neo and QLED are comparable TVs. The same goes for QLED and NanoCells, as there are few models that act as direct competitors, these are below LG's OLED.

Regarding the technologies available in these products, the biggest highlight is the DolbyVisionIQ, which is an application of the high quality HDR standard, High Dynamic Range, so you get the best possible contrast and brightness in every scene. It works with the main services of streaming today, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video e Disney Plus.

In addition, the TVs will also have a dedicated gaming mode. Thinking about the gamer audience, the manufacturer will continue with the standard HGIG, the HDR focused on games. On the one hand, it is a balance for all types of use, as HDR for cinema (and series) is included, as well as HDR for games.

Talking about audio, LG still expands partnership with Dolby for technology Dolby Atmos. The line has models with HDMI eARC connection, that is, with excellent definition audio return for those who connect a home theater or a soundbar. The eARC standard, for audio transmission, serves to assist those who watch a series on Netflix, for example. If the content has Dolby Atmos, just use an HDMI 2.1 cable to connect to a receiver and there will be no loss of audio quality.

webos lg

Finally, we cannot fail to mention the two main highlights in of navigation, which would be the operational system and remote control Taj smart TVs. LG's updated system is the WebOS 6.0, which had a completely revamped home screen, and now fills the whole instead of just being a strip at the bottom of the screen. There are several blocks of applications and services, with special recommendations for each , based on consumption.

the remote control smart magic also had an update that deserves to be highlighted: it became smaller and more ergonomic. On the underside of the controller we have six buttons, four of which are dedicated to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Globoplay and Disney Plus services, and the other two are the personal assistant duo Google Assistant and Alexa.

Also at the bottom, we see the functionality NFC Magic Tap, which was explained in detail by Pedro:

So if you're watching content on your cell phone and would like to stream it to TV, instead of having to open the mirror your cell phone to TV setting, just touch your cell phone to the remote control. smart magic and it will send that content directly to the TV.

And the opposite is also true: if you consume content on the TV and need, for whatever reason, to go to another room and want to continue watching, just touch the smart magic and the signal is sent to the cell phone.

Whether in the convenience of watching television wherever you want, or with a setup worthy of cinema, LG proved to be a very strong manufacturer by bringing exclusive technologies to the CES 2021 and update the TV portfolio that everyone already knows.
