A IBM presented the main findings of the report CIO Study 2021, performed by Institute for Business Value (IBV) in partnership with Oxford Economics. The study, which surveyed 2,5 CIOs in more than 45 locations and 29 industries, aims to provide an overview of the information technology market on a global scale. 17553l
Among the outstanding findings is the fact that, during the last few years, 90% of CIOs — Chief Information Officer, a professional responsible for information technology (IT) in a company — have defined and implemented a comprehensive strategy for remote work and 40% report they could run their business in a purely virtual environment.
The growing influence of CIOs within organizations was another data pointed out by the report. According to the survey, 57% of corporate presidents surveyed in Brazil pointed to the CIO as the most important professional for your organization during the next three years. This role grows as technology becomes essential for companies surveyed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The role of the Chief of Information Technology is also seen as crucial for facing the difficulties imposed by the pandemic within organizations. According to the report, 85% of respondents in Brazil say their team played a vital role in the organization's response to the pandemic. This index is higher than all other leaders surveyed in Latin America.
The digital transformation brought about by the pandemic 636s1y
One thing is fact: the current pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation plans of several companies and has been boosting the market as a whole. This is also the perception of the vast majority (98%) of Brazilian CIOs, according to the Survey Global CIO 2021, produced by Logicalis. Also according to the study, information technology was also the area that most appeared in digital transformation, with 81% of companies reporting accelerated activities in this sector, demonstrating the importance of IT in building an infrastructure that can more agile and innovative operations between the business.
This heating up of the sector can also be observed in a recent projection by the Association of Information and Communication Technology and Digital Technologies Companies (Brasscom), which estimates the creation of 797 thousand new job vacancies in the technology sector in Brazil. The entity believes, however, that there will be a shortage of professionals to fill 532 of these vacancies.

Another data that also gives a dimension of this growth is the number of professionals hired this year in the country. Until August, for example, Brazil doubled the number of professionals in the sector, suring the annual projection for 2021. This high demand, however, highlights a serious problem: the bottleneck of the deficit of IT professionals in the country, which has been worsened by the digital acceleration driven during the pandemic.
With the sector heated, educational institutions have bet on new courses and didactic proposals in order to attract students to the area. According to recent data from Inep, around 53 higher education students graduated from courses in the area in 2019. If the number remains stable over the next few years, Brasscom estimates that the supply of professionals should remain below what is necessary. Four years from now, for example, the approximately 4 graduates in the area per year in Brazil will be less than a quarter of what is needed to fill the more than 50 vacancies projected for that year alone.

In an attempt to reverse this deficit, which even concerns specialists in the area, educational institutions have increasingly invested in courses aimed at the sector, with new methodologies and more innovative didactics.
