Carrying out the journey to achieve now and then spanned five decades and is the result of discussions and collaborations between the four of the Beatles. John Lennon's initial demo was first revisited in February 1995 by Paul, George and Ringo as part of the project The Beatles Anthology. However, this version remained unfinished, in part due to the technological complexities involved in manipulating John's vocal recording, which had been made on tape in the 1970s.
For many years, the song seemed impossible to complete. However, in 2022, software developed by Peter Jackson and his team, used in the production of the documentary series Get Back, finally allowed the separation of John's voice from his piano part. As a result, the original recording was brought back to life and reworked with contributions from all four Beatles.
