Elon Musk on Starlink's presence in Brazil

The project Starlink intends to provide fast internet via satellite to the whole world through technologies that guarantee cost reduction for customers and greater connection coverage.

SpaceX Program to Provide Satellite Internet Worldwide

The satellites developed by SpaceX are capable of reaching regions that current internet and telecommunications operators cannot reach. Such satellites orbit the Earth at a distance up to 60 times smaller than traditional ones. This provides faster and faster data transmission from space, that is, a very fast quality internet experience.

Currently, customers have a cost of US$499 for the antennas, an amount that Musk want to reduce to US$300 or US$250. So far, 12 countries receive internet via satellite with 69 s. The forecast for the next 12 months is that another 500.000 s will the program.

If confirmed, the project should provide satellite signal reception kits to remote locations and the Amazon. Connectivity will guarantee much more than internet access for isolated populations, since the network can collaborate in the monitoring and preservation of the Amazon Forest.

We are working to close this important partnership between the Brazilian government and the SpaceX company. We want to combine the technology developed by them with the Ministry of Communications' Wi-Fi Brasil program. Our goal is to bring internet to rural areas and remote places, in addition to helping to control fires and illegal deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.

Note from the Ministry of Communications

All of this is part of the Starlink program that has more than 1.700 units in orbit. Musk wants to reach 30.000 units to reach percentage of population without access to good connections, such as fiber optics and 5G.

Disassembled antenna kit

Anatel approved two satellite antennas that will be installed in the provider's ground stations. The release is in the schedule of the arrival of the Starlink in Brazil, which plans to start the testing phase by the end of the year.

To date, two versions of the antenna Gateway 3 were released, being classified as earth station transceivers, used to implement the satellite communication service. In the certification document, it is observed that the equipment operates in the Ku band and has a transmission capacity of up to 4 GB.

The broadband antenna that will be installed in customers' homes still needs a request to be approved. In addition, the request to explore foreign satellites in Brazil is also in Anatel's hands.

Through SpaceX, Musk says that Brazil will have access to the internet via satellite by the end of 2021. Those interested in participating in the beta phase can now , with a US$99 registration fee. It is also necessary to guarantee the antenna and router kit, which cost US$499.
