The channel wisecrack, from Youtube, put together an interesting video that explores the emergence of fake news (fake news), this branch of the media that has been growing at an alarming rate these days. More than ever, there are several ways to get news and, along with that, more ways to hear just what you want (the so-called “bubble”). When many are confronted with facts and arguments that they do not want to accept, it is common to have reactions of hate, censorship and, the new fashion, fake news. But they are not as recent as we think. p6lh

The origin of fake news can be found in science fiction, more specifically, in the hit novel by Ray Bradbury de 1953, Fahrenheit 451. If you've never read or heard of this masterpiece, we highly recommend you check it out. In short, the book addresses a dystopian future, in which books are banned and firefighters are called upon to burn books, causing fires rather than stopping them.
Many interpret the classic as a vision of totalitarian government, which tries to control information at all costs, keeping its population ignorant. However, the real responsible for the dystopia that Bradbury draws in the book is you. More specifically, the general population. The amount of information grew at such an alarming rate that people could no longer consume or absorb news from so many different sources.
In this way, the information in the world of Farenheit 451 has been reduced to simple headlines, consumed so quickly that no one re them after reading them. In a short time, most of the population became addicted to this kind of frivolous content, censoring themselves on any subject that didn't interest them or made them think too much.
The relationship with fake news can be made directly with the future that Bradbury described. Our society needs to remain vigilant and not let itself be trapped in the bubble of conformism because of the gigantic amount of information we are exposed to today. To do so is to run the risk of creating a world where only banal information reigns, whether it is true or not.
