The Arthur Beltrão shared with us his first impressions of using his new tablet: the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. See what he thought below:
Battery Life:
The battery is fantastic (I compare it to a Motorola Milestone 2 smartphone and an HP Notebook with a 9-cell battery). As the toy is new, I use it constantly. According to my calculations, the battery should last between 9 and 10 hours, even playing Order and Chaos (an online 3D RPG), with automatic brightness and without the keyboard.
On average, my battery has lasted between 1 and a half to 2 days, using a lot of tablets. On stand-by the battery drains very little, contrary to what I had heard around.
The only setting I changed was in the Wi-Fi shutdown policy, setting it to turn off when it goes into deepseep if disconnected from charger. In this situation the battery discharges around 2% every 10 hours.
Speed and performance:
I found the performance of the tablet very good too. I have about 150 apps already installed on it and the default launcher runs smooth. There are some infrequent moments when he chokes, but it doesn't bother him too much. Hope this goes away in ICS.
THD games run incredibly smooth on it. O Order and Chaos it gives a few stutters from time to time, but that must be because of the hack I made to run the game on it (it's not compatible by default). I didn't make any benchmarks, but in my day-to-day use, and in 3D games I liked it a lot.
Internet and browsing:
Internet browsing is very good. For me, who was used to the phone's browser, it was a quantum leap. The pages load quickly, even the ones with Flash, and everything runs perfectly (except for the bad sites made just for internet explorer). It very much resembles the Chrome browser.
Gmail:
The gmail it's very good at tablets, but every now and then it gives some bugs. Some messages that I read here from the list, I don't know why, remain as unread, even clicking several times. In this case I go back to the inbox and then click again on the group label, then on the message and it is marked as read.
Display:
The touch of the device is very good, very accurate. The screen brightness is excellent, if you need it you can set it to maximum and the screen is very vivid and sharp.
Finishing:
The finish of the tablets it's great, much prettier than Motorola XOOM or the Samsung Galaxy Tab (in my opinion, of course).
Camera/Videos:
I haven't tested the camera yet or watched videos on it (except youtube ). I still need to test Netflix too.
