A foldable smartphone, and in the process, collecting successes and failures, the company takes a risk in an out-of-the-curve bid and bets on a device that unfolds and fulfills the functions of a smartwatch and tablet very well. 3f1h4h
The patent, published by the US Patent and Trademark Office on June 11, 2019, and discovered by the Dutch technology publisher Lets Go Digital, made the record public, ended up taking everyone by surprise.
After all, following the history of the company, which today has as its main focus on consulting, Artificial Intelligence and computação quântica, it seems unlikely that the IBM would risk, at some point, the launch of a consumer product, especially in a sector hitherto little explored when the foldable smartwatch.
The IBM seems coherent, however, given the keen interest of other technology companies, many of them leaders in the consumer sector, to literally go out of their way to offer a foldable product. It was the case of Huawei, who, in their attempts, needed to recover their designs in order to improve the folding characteristic of their products.

According to ed patent, titled Variable Display Size for an Electronic Display Device, the product is described as a wristband device that looks like a watch. It has a rectangular display in portrait mode without frames, something very close to what is already offered on the market with current smartwatches.
Under the clock and display, there are seven additional displays stored in compartments. while the website Lets Go Digital says that the patent does not clearly describe how the unfolding or assembly process works, the IBM claims that s would be able to expand the screen area to up to eight s in total, with each having dimensions of 3 x 2 inches.
They are 12 x 8 inches at their maximum size. At this point, your smartwatch is a tablet and fulfills all its functions very well.

So far there is no detailed information about the curious folding smartwatch, nor will it hit the market, as the challenge of producing this smartwatch is still great. It was not enough that the project had its interest initially ed in 2016 and its patent duly approved now in 2019. Nothing indicates that the interests of IBM remain the same.
But, if the intentions for the development for the foldable smartwatch come true, there is a great possibility that the product that reaches the consumer's hands will not disappoint. After all, IBM is currently the largest technology patent holder in the world and one of the most advanced innovation labs on the planet.
IBM, so far, has not commented on the foldable smartwatch or given any indication that the project remains in its future plans.
