known as the “Mountain City”, Monterrey is a Mexican city with about 1,1 million inhabitants. The municipality in northern Mexico has highways that border the United States. No wonder, for strategic reasons, the Lenovo chose the region to set up a factory. About 85% of products can be transported to their final destinations by land.
Inaugurated in 2008, the Lenovo Monterrey produces only by order of purchase. There are already more than 15 million notebooks manufactured since the opening of the plant. On site, they work with customized equipment, ordered directly by customers. The plant covers 263 thousand square meters and generates between 100 and 600 thousand jobs annually. Every three months, $750 is generated for the city.
“Lenovo is a young company, well positioned in the global market and present in 160 countries, generating sales of more than 45 billion worldwide. For Lenovo, the Monterrey plant is the third most important in the world”
explains Herón Ramos, Lenovo Monterrey Plant Manager.
According to Lenovo, production at the Mexican plant is able to supply Latin America and Mexico (15%), Canada (5%) and the United States, which receives 80% of the equipment manufactured. THE Intel explains that there it produces seven million notebooks for the three markets. In the future, the expectation is to raise this number to nine million units.
Production: areas and technologies 3i33j

In Monterey, the Lenovo manufactures its best-known machines on the market. we're talking about the line Lenovo Think: Thinkpad, ThinkCentre, think station e ThinkServer. To serve its markets, the plant produces office PCs, workstations, tablets, notebooks, servers, racks, switches and All-in-ones (“All in one”, in free translation). The server production capacity is 400 thousand units each year.
In the future, the new lines are expected to be manufactured in Monterrey. THE Lenovo says at 50% of the mark Think and 50% of IDEA. With this, the company can generate more than 800 jobs.

At the unit, they work with two production lines: the first is streaming, which consists of a more automatic process, left to large batches of products; the second, called cell line, is a manual process, in which it is done by production cells for smaller quantities, in addition to specialized products.
Product testing and quality protocol 682l3u

Product testing is another point that Lenovo stands out in its Mexican structure. The plant follows a quality protocol called “Lean Manufacturing”. This feature divides orderly manufacturing space from start to finish of production.
Ao showmetech, Heron Ramos, general manager of the notebook factory, revealed that when developing a new production line, the first 24 units are subjected to testing. According to Lenovo, for every million products produced, only 30 units fail in Monterrey.

They go through a process called Lenovo Early Life Performance Lab, in which temperature, drop, vibration and humidity tests are performed. Before starting their production, these products cannot be defective during the evaluation in the Early Life Performance Lab.

Of the 23 factories in the world, the Monterrey development is the third largest, as well as in the region. In Brazil, the Lenovo has a factory in Indaiatuba, in the interior of São Paulo. The São Paulo unit follows the Monterrey model.
In addition, for the first time, the Indaiatuba team was not trained by the brand's Chinese team, but by Latin Americans. The Brazilian factory has shown more and more potential, advancing in automation eaa Lenovo says that Brazil is already sharing new automation technologies with other countries.
To expand its operations in the Brazilian market, in 2012, Lenovo acquired the Brazilian CCE (Electronic Components Trade) for around BRL 300 million. In 2015, however, the Chinese returned the CCE for the previous owners: the Sverner family. Currently, the company is also present in the country through Motorola.
