Intel may ditch the Core lineup in 2019 in favor of a new architecture. Understand 57w6i

Apparently, Tiger Lake will be the last processor in the Core lineup, with the next generation bringing a completely new architecture.

Unlike what happens with the GPUs, the architecture update cycle of the Us it is relatively long. The most common is to optimize a little here, better a little there, and reduce the lithograph from time to time. That much for the Intel how much for the AMD, both working with the same architecture for years. It is the case of Bulldozer (Vishera and later) in the case of AMD and the line Core on the side of Intel. THE core line, in particular, has been Intel's flagship since Sandy Bridge (2011), with few really significant changes to date. Kaby Lake (7th generation). But it looks like that will change in the next few years. 4d6l3d

Yes: Successive generations have brought advances. Higher single-core efficiency, more powerful integrated GPUs, new decoders and higher clocks, totaling a average improvement of 6-7% from generation to generation*. For the sake of backwards compatibility, Intel has maintained for the x86_64 (basically, the implementation of 64 bits do x86). This implementation was created by AMD, and Intel needs AMD licensing to use it. However, x86 was created by Intel, so AMD needs Intel licensing to use it. This codependency is beneficial for s, as it ensures that programs run on both processors.

*Intel generally says improvements are around 10%, but this is only in specific situations

However, this may change after 2019, when the Tiger lake reach the market. Apparently, it will be the last processor in the line Core, with the next generation bringing a completely new architecture. It is a case similar to what is happening with the AMD Ryzen, designed from scratch, and no longer an heir to the Bulldozer line. This could mean a compatibility break, although details about this new architecture are still scarce. Initially, Intel would benefit, as it would not have to dedicate parts of its chip to old features. At the same time, it allows you to design the chip the way you prefer, which allows for a performance leap over the previous generation.

What would be the name of the line's successor? Core? It's still a mystery, as well as what the built-in features would be. It's still 2016, so we have a good few years ahead. But believe me: these next years will be full of news from Intel.
