Was robots, a modest free-to-play MOBA wicks from Russia has been drawing the attention of the gamer community in recent days due to an expansion of the game. In a story that mixes real life, fiction and homage, a Pixonic employee, who lost one of his arms in an accident, had his tragic story reimagined in a War Robots DLC. 3j3y5v
Andrei Kvasov, who works in the IT area of pixonic, took a trip to the Dominican Republic during his vacation in November 2019, when the tour bus he was on collided with a truck.
In addition to his amputated left arm, he also lost an ear and a finger from his right hand. However, despite the devastating accident, Kvasov returned to Pixonic's offices just four months after the tragedy. Arriving there, he was surprised by a proposal made by the game's developers. Was robots: turn a character into a DLC about the game.

Kvasov shared all the details of his story, from the incident and how Pixonic worked to get a prosthetic arm, in a post on the Russian Pikabu forum.
So when, on my first day at the office after the accident, my colleague Karina came up to me and said, 'Look, Andrey, don't you want to be a pilot? Can we rethink her story and somehow put her in the game?' I didn't even think about refusing

After accepting, it was then that a character with an appearance identical to that of Andrei Kvasov, using his name and fitting into the game's plot, was created, but Kvasov's co-workers decided to go further.
The character was included in Was robots via a battle . That is, players would need to pay to have access to the character. Even without him knowing it, what the studio was doing was creating a kind of crowdfunding, since the amount raised from the sale of the character would go to a fund that aimed to buy a prosthesis for Kvasov.
In the story I am a veteran of the DSC faction who went to many battles. In one of the battles I covered a friend and almost died. I was rescued by my comrades, but I lost an arm. Despite this, I kept a positive attitude and was brought back into action after rehabilitation and the creation of a special armor.

"I think this is an inspiring reimagining of a tragic story. My character teaches players to keep their spirits up no matter what“, explained about the character in the DLC.

Then, when the amount needed to purchase the prosthesis was reached, Kvasov became aware of the plan, as did the players who contributed to the campaign, receiving a notice that a person would receive a prosthesis for its action and the game character got a visual update, with the mechanical arm now looking more like the one Kvasov would use in real life.
I didn't know this right away, but several months later when a certain amount had accumulated. It was a complete and pleasant surprise for me. Players have also discovered that the story is real, after the fact. Every owner of a pilot received a free benefit and a notification that the money invested in buying a prosthesis for a real person. The news was very well received by the players and I received many kind words

On the details of the character, and the team responsible for the game took advantage of the situation to try to sell an optimistic image, stating that the character who carried the name Kvasov was a tribute to a great professional and that “when faced with something that would break many, not only did he remain strong, he maintained a positive attitude and inspired us all.. "
Finally, Kvasov thanks everyone involved, whether from the developer team or the players, and talks about his post-prosthesis life:
Now I live a normal life, I go to the gym twice a week and I do karate once a week (the lack of an arm doesn't stop me from spinning). I work, video games. Incidentally, there are enough devices on the market these days that give a complete gaming experience even to people who can't play games like most people.
