The film, which brings Bradley Cooper in the role of the conductor, he was shown at several festivals and is currently competing for 7 Oscar 2024 nominations. Since the end of last year, Netflix subscribers have had the opportunity to check out the musical trajectory of this man who left us on October 14, 1990 Check out our review below!

History 6r4t5f

American conductor Leonard Bernstein took over as director of the New York Philharmonic after replacing the conductor Bruno Walter in a performance at Carnegie Hall. From this performance onwards, his career took a huge rise. In addition to being a historical figure, he was bold in bringing classical music to a more popular scope.

However, anyone who thinks that the film is only about the musician's trajectory is mistaken. In the end, Felicia Montealegre, his great ion and companion, shares the entire role of this story with him. The film lasts more than two hours and the presence of the Costa Rican actress he fell in love with is present from the unforgettable performance at Carnegie Hall until a fatal moment of split. From this point of view, Maestro is a true love story that we appreciate in the best format storytelling.

There are conflicts, doubts, denials, confused feelings and, above all, emotions that at times are confused and at others are understood without having to say a word. This entire complex love story between the two really happened and Bradley Cooper, who wrote the script alongside Josh Singer, handled this plot very well, which generates many reflections and visual insights.

In addition to all the brilliance and security on stage by Bradley Cooper, we cannot forget the participation of Matthew Bomer, who plays the character David Oppenheim, a great partner of the maestro. Bomer also stood out last year with his interpretation of Hawkins Fuller on the Serie Fellow Travelers, available on Paramount+, which earned a nomination for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Telefilm at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.

The first appearance of Felicia Montealegre in the film it is quite cinematic. The young actress played by Carey Mulligan jumps out of a bus and walks towards the camera, which captures his face in a style characteristic of the films vintage. We cannot deny that Bradley Cooper's direction is impeccable and very respectful of the entire climate. Black typical of a nostalgic era.

The same care is present in the choice of songs that make up the soundtrack and further enhance the atmosphere of glamor and charm both in the world of theater, of which Mulligan is a part, and in music, in which Bernstein shares his charisma and genius.

Another notable point is a surprising performance that took place while they were not yet a couple. The highlight is valid because it is a typical staging of great musicals. It occurs at a time of escape from reality amid demands that occur during meal times.

In this scene Leonard and Felicia do not sing, but the choreography done by the present figuration faithfully adapts to an engaging music and, quickly, we are transported through a context very similar to the dancing events of West Side Story, a musical that is later mentioned in the film, which is an adaptation of the story of Romeo and Juliet that Leonard himself created. The story gained a remake in 2021 by Steven Spielberg.

Technical Aspects 6e1j5o

Characterization of Bradley Cooper to play conductor Leonard Bernstein in old age. (Image: Netflix)

The first 10 minutes of the film are surprising. Firstly, we were impacted by Bradley Cooper's characterization as the conductor in old age. The makeup distances itself from the look we know of the actor who was part of the films The place where everything ends (2012), The Nightmare Alley (2021), If you drink, don't get married (2009) e a star is born (2018).

With this characterization he makes wistful comments while being filmed by a television crew. Shortly afterwards we see the maestro at Carnegie Hall on the night he replaced conductor Bruno Walter. This was one of the most important nights in Leonard Bernstein's career.

The direction makes this moment grand and abrupt. We want to draw attention to the sequence of these moments and the domination of the P & W on the screen which, despite being a very common resource for referring to events flashback, enchants with the strategic movement of the cameras that brings us the dimension of that theater and the joy that takes over the musician.

As many already know, the point of confrontation must always exist in these cinematographic narratives to justify the future climax that will lead to the outcome of the story. This conflicting stage is symbolized with the arrival of color on the screen and at this moment all the utopian enchantment of the past gives way to the maturation of the characters.

Now more mature and without the constant romanticism of the past, Leonard and Felice experience moments of divergence and friction that shake their relationship. An interesting aspect is that the images of Lenny's (Leonard Bernstein) old age are in 21:9 format, but when Felicia is present during the story, the format is 4:3, typical of the first televisions.

Let's not forget that Bradley did an incredible job acting and directing the fourth version of the story of A Star is Born. However, in Teacher He shows all his versatility and creativity in working with elements that are very characteristic of each era with dialogues that make us reflect on the way we conduct our social relationships.

Teacher It's a great way to get to know a little about the psyche of a great person. Perhaps a way of showing how human the regent was. The film is Cartesian, peculiar and beautiful, just like classical music composed by a great conductor.
