According to the Public Relations Manager at NVIDIA, André Kawaguchi Forte, only the Ray Tracing was used in Minecraft and few textures were actually modified. The basic idea of Ray Tracing is to take a system lighting global gamer that ultra-realistically mimics the effects of light and shadow, providing very sophisticated visuals.
The word can be freely translated as “Ray Trace”, being an algorithm that simulates the path of light rays similar to that of real life. That is, you place a light source somewhere (a sun, for example, or a lamp), and this glow emanates reflect on all objects.

The qualitative leap of Minecraft to Ray Tracing impresses, making the environment incredibly more realistic, however, not detracting from the “blocky” visuals that are characteristic of the game.
The water quality stands out mainly (pictured above), with beautiful transparency effects, quite different from the blue squares of the original game. The water also demonstrates the reflection of the entire environment of the scenario, as well as the submerged part of it.
On the inside, we can see that the glass reflects the objects of the house itself, unlike the original where we only saw the external area of the environment. In addition, lava effects and lights in general also help the player.

Forte also explains that, being in an indoor environment like cave, for example, we can break the wall to have a light entrance and, in this way, be able to see what is inside. Thanks to technology, the day and night system also becomes more real.

It is worth ing that in August, a package called “Super Duper Graphics Pack” that promised to improve the visuals of the Minecraft and, coincidentally, it would also have an update to the lights and shadows.
On that occasion, the Mojang sent a statement apologizing and saying that there would be a “great technical requirement for implementation”. It is speculated that they scrapped this package in favor of the Ray Tracing.
No word yet on when the minecraft-rtx will hit the market, but the feature will be made available for free for the PC version.
