With the idea of being affordable, see what we think of the cheapest foldable smartphone in Brazil in 2024. Has Motorola really made the right decision?

O Motorola Razr 50 was launched in Brazil with the proposal of being a more affordable foldable smartphone. The model looks a lot like the Motorola RAZR 50Ultra when we look at the aesthetic part, but does changing a processor make that much of a difference? See our analysis right now. 4f275m

There is no way not to compare the Motorola Razr 50 with the model launched in July this year, which even we have review. Aesthetically speaking, they are extremely similar, but the more expensive version has one difference: the back has the famous vegan leather material, seen on other Motorola devices. Both also weigh 188 grams.

The successor to the 40 Motorola Razr 2023 is 7,25 millimeters thick when closed and has just three buttons: two for volume control and one to turn the screen on or off, where the fingerprint sensor is also located.

The foldable smartphone sent to Showmetech is gray, but it was also launched in Brazil in Vanilla (a shade of light pink) and Orange (orange) variants. See all the variants below:

Model was launched in three colors in Brazil (Photo: Disclosure)

I honestly really liked the gray, which is an interesting option for those who want to have a more intimate device, but without having to leave style aside. The classic: chic without being extravagant.

About resistance, the Motorola Razr 50 has the certification IPX4, which allows its use even in with fresh water for up to 30 minutes, at a depth of up to 1,5 meters. Motorola also highlighted the functionality Smart Water Touch, which allows the screen to be used even in situations where there are splashes on it.

Charging is done via USB-C connection (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

There is a USB-C connection for charging the device, which can also be used for cabled media playback or screen sharing. The device has a tray to accommodate up to two physical SIMs at the same time.

external screen 6pf3f

Motorola Razr 50 external screen measures 3,6 inches (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmwtech)

In addition to the camera game that I will talk about later in this review, Motorola Razr 50, the external screen is the big difference compared to the Motorola Razr 50Ultra. While the more expensive version has a 4-inch screen, the Motorola Razr 50 It has a 3,6-inch external display, which displays images in 1056×1066 resolution and is of the p-OLED type. The refresh rate on this smaller screen is 90Hz.

Despite some losses, the experience of this model is very similar to the Motorola Razr 50Ultra which I tested in July this year. Of course, when playing FPS games like Garena Free Fire and PUB-G, you will notice the difference in refresh rate. But in day-to-day activities, the 3,6-inch screen of the Motorola Razr 50 got the job done.

Applications can be used in full on the smaller screen (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmettech)

I really like that Motorola is ahead of Samsung when it comes to taking advantage of the external screen of foldable smartphones. The company allows not only the good use of shortcuts, but literally all smartphone applications can be used on this smaller screen.

It is true that not all applications available for Android are optimized to run on a 3,6-inch display, but the most famous ones, such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter e YouTube worked well around here.

I really like the music shortcut when the screen is locked, with four options to choose from. My favorite is the Space one, but the vinyl style one is also elegant and matches what I'm doing. Motorola wants to deliver. Personal taste will be very different in this regard, but it is worth mentioning that the company got it right.

Motorola has a special screen lock for music playback (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

In addition to running full-featured applications, you can check weather information, your appointment schedule, and even use Google Gemini, Google's personal assistant, on this external screen. You can send texts to social networks, search the internet, and more.

Google Gemini can be used in full on the smaller screen (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The need to not open Motorola's new foldable smartphone is a huge help, and you can tell the company worked hard to make the experience as pleasant as possible. The 0,4-inch difference compared to the Motorola Razr 50Ultra It's barely noticeable, although the rough strip on this outer screen is clearly visible.

Internal screen f4h13

Indoor screen can be used outdoors (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The experience in this regard is also very similar when we place the Motorola Razr 50 next to Razr 50 Ultra. They have the same 6,9-inch internal display, also sharing the same 1080 x 2640 (FHD+) resolution. The only difference is the refresh rate: the model in question in this review has 120Hz.

The display performs well outdoors due to its peak brightness of 3.000 nits, a gain of 1600 nits over the Motorola Razr 40 released last year. Even when I used apps in dark mode, I didn't notice that mirror-like appearance on the screen. The ambient sensor does its job excellently and eliminates the need to manually adjust the screen brightness.

Games ran with great quality on a larger screen (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Regarding content consumption, the screen does a good job due to its AMOLED design. This way, blacks and darker tones don't have that whitish effect. When watching series and movies on Netflix, I really enjoyed the experience. The screen also transitions between applications very smoothly.

Model also plays YouTube videos with great peak brightness (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Despite being a cheaper model, the Motorola Razr 50 managed to do well in everything that was put to the tests. That's it: the 120Hz refresh rate is already more than enough for good everyday use and, above that, we only have gains.

Processor 1z5g6g

Mediatek Dimensity 7300X helps reduce final price (Photo: Disclosure)

Motorola chose the Mediatek Dimensity 7300X with 4-nanometer architecture for its “affordable” foldable smartphone in 2024. The most expensive model has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a stripped-down version of the processor found in the Galaxy S24 line. But what does this mean in practice?

Well, there's nothing bad to say about the performance compared to the Dimensity 7300X, but it turns out that when you need more power to perform AI activities locally, this won't work.

One example is the use of Google's editing tools: despite advertising that the Google app is also the native gallery of its smartphones, you still need internet to delete objects from photos. The same goes for creating transcription summaries of voice notes.

Is this a huge problem? Definitely not, but there was a small downgrade so that the final price of the device would be lower and it would make sense in the market. It's also not like the processor is horrible and causes stutters, although I noticed some "stuttering" after half an hour of racing in Asphalt 9.

Games ran well on the larger screen (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

That said, everyday activities like social media, video editing, and more demanding tasks will run fine here, but sooner or later you'll find the device getting hot. It's just natural.

Benchmark tests showed that, as expected, the Motorola Razr 50 scored lower than the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, as expected. See below the scores in the GeekBench 6.

(Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Now speaking only about the Dimensity 7300X, it scored slightly better than the Galaxy S21 FE (from 2021), but it still falls well below the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6, for example. Check out the comparison:

System and interface e174s

Motorola Razr 50 Operating System Data
Model will be updated to Android (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco)

The device arrives in Brazil with Android 14 installed from the factory, with that “purer” interface that has been a true trademark of Motorola since the launch of the Moto G line.

I really like Moto Actions and it's great that they're here: you can turn on the flashlight with a simple shake of the device and/or open the camera app.

Other customization features are available for those who want to use them and you can even change the icons of third-party applications. Extremely interesting for those who like to have a completely customizable operating system.

However… It's important to note that if you're someone who likes to have access to major operating system updates, Motorola is promising four years of that, up to Android 18. Let's here that Samsung is offering seven years of updates, up to Android 21.

Honestly speaking, I'm one of those people who really likes to receive new features, especially considering the investment of over R$4 in a foldable smartphone that Motorola calls . Spending this amount on a smartphone would also mean that I want to make the most of the new features that are released. Between enjoying this until 2028 or until 2031, the answer for me is quite clear.

Using Moto AI 59492m

AI platform is more complete (Photo: Disclosure)

In my review of the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, I was clear: the company still needed to add value for its AI platform to be truly useful. And it was only a matter of time. Let's go through each of them.

Starting with Google Photos: now, after ing a plugin developed by Motorola (which requires an internet connection to be used), s have access to an editing tool that is more assertive than the one available in Google Photos. Despite making mistakes a few times, the results were assertive in 95% of the tests I did here. See some before and after shots when dragging the white bar:

Review: Motorola Razr 50 is an interesting bet for the foldable smartphone market. With the proposal of being affordable, see what we think of the cheapest foldable smartphone of 2024 in Brazil. Has Motorola really got it right?Review: Motorola Razr 50 is an interesting bet for the foldable smartphone market. Motorola also claims to have an AI tool that blurs a photo even if it wasn't taken in portrait mode. The results are mixed, but still quite accurate. Group photos have more errors, but selfies where only I appeared were edited well.

It's still not as feature-rich as the Xiaomi 14t, but this has everything to improve as the months go by. It is promising and the future promises something interesting.

A feature for creating summaries of texts written by s is also interesting, but it would be nice if the application Motorcycle Note could also create texts through commands sent by s. Who knows in the next update, but it's still better than when I tested the Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra.

Moto Note can summarize text written by the (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The voice recorder now also has an audio transcription feature, which works well, but there are some errors that may need to be manually corrected before sending somewhere. I'll let this error here, as it's common among all the AI platforms I've tested this year.

Motorola Voice Recorder with Transcription AI

Another improvement is in image generation: images created from text commands can be set as wallpaper for the smaller screen and also for the external screen (the big news). It is clear that everything was created by artificial intelligence and this is still not as assertive as the Galaxy AI Samsung, but, it's nice to have.

Photo created by moto ai
Created photos can now be used on both screens (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmeech)

During the Lenovo Tech World '24, Motorola announced the arrival of two features to the Moto AI platform: one that works as a “photo memory” and another that summarizes notifications. But the date for this to be released was not announced at the time of writing this review.

It's worth noting that there's still no Circle to Search (which saves you from taking a screenshot and using Google Lens) or a translation feature that takes advantage of both screens, similar to what we saw on the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Flip6, which isn't yet available for Motorola's foldable smartphones. Maybe in the next few months, right?

The feeling that remains is that, finally, Motorola has really started to add value with the use of artificial intelligence in its devices.

You can see that the company has been working to deliver more features to its s. These are the ones that really help in their day-to-day lives. The future is set to be bright, so let's give the company the currency of trust this time.

Memory and storage 92e1o

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra Storage Data
Model has 512 GB of internal storage (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmettech)

O Motorola RAZR 50Ultra arrived in Brazil with 512 GB of internal storage and 12 GB of RAM, which can be expanded to up to 24 GB through the RAM Plus feature. Despite this “ignorance” let's that more performance is never too much, right?

Rest assured that you will also have some time to run into internal storage issues. Unfortunately, the device does not accept microSD cards.

Connectivity 5h1q1v

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra Connectivity Data
Model connects to Wi-Fi and can have eSIMs installed (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The device connects to 5G networks and 7 WiFi, standards of the smartphone category. A Bluetooth antenna that follows the 5.4 standard was included in the device. The foldable has a tray to receive a physical chip, but it is also possible to install eSIMs.

Battery and charging 6j5f4k

Device has 33W fast charging (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Here's a curious detail. Despite being the simplest version of the two foldables launched by Motorola in 2024, the device covered by this review has a battery with a capacity of 4200 mAh, an additional 200 mAh compared to the Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra.

This may not seem like much in everyday life, but due to its smaller external screen, combined with its low-power processor, the model managed to stay active for an entire day, using only Wi-Fi for social networks, the camera and performance tests. I picked up the device at 09 am one day and it stayed active until 21 pm. Its fast charging completed the battery in less than an hour.

The charger shipped in the box Moto Razr 50 has the ability to 33w (the more expensive model s 67W wired charging) via wire to recharge the battery 50% in just 23 minutes. While that's less than half the more expensive model, that's still higher than the Galaxy z flip6, which recharges at 25W with a wire.

If you prefer to charge wirelessly, you can use a base of up to 15W. It is worth noting that wireless charging is not present in the Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra, despite being more expensive.

Cameras 353z5z

Telephoto camera was moved to a more expensive device (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmeech)

After the processor, the big difference between Motorola's foldables launched in 2024 is in the rear camera setup. The Motorola Razr 50 has a 50 MP main wide lens and a 13 MP ultrawide lens for capturing images and videos in a larger field of view. Instead of the ultrawide lens, the other model has a 50 MP telephoto lens, in addition to 2x optical zoom, something that the Motorola Razr 50 does not have (only digital).

Starting with the 50 MP lens, it can do its job of taking great photos and still have great post-processing without giving that washed-out effect. When the high-resolution mode is activated, you have access to great photos and videos with good colors. Check out some photos below:

Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech

The 13 MP lens is best suited for group photos and, despite being less powerful, it also delivers great results. The interesting thing here is the portrait mode, which manages to do a great job without also creating that washed-out effect, a problem I mentioned in the Motorola RAZR 50 Ultra review. Here are some results:

The same 50 MP front camera as the Motorola Razr 32 Ultra on the internal screen is present here, which is also worth mentioning that it stands out for allowing the use of the fully illuminated screen, great for selfies taken at night, even in low-light environments.

Front lens takes photos in up to 13 MP (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

But in well-lit places, the capture of details is also impressive. Check it out:

Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech

In of videos, the Motorola Razr 50 records videos in 4K quality at 30 fps per second on the rear and front cameras. Slow-motion mode reaches up to 240 fps.

I really like the Camcorder Mode: basically, when you fold the device in half, a video recording starts automatically and you can use your thumb as a camera control, a clever mode that so far hasn't been available on Samsung foldables. Plus point for Motorola here.

Camcorder mode makes video recording more dynamic (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Special modes that complement the experience of the device are available here: Color Spot tries to work well, but can sometimes be buggy. My favorite is actually the dual capture mode, which allows you to use both cameras at the same time.

Despite a small downgrade and taking away the telephoto lens for better capture of content at a distance and the optical zoom, the Motorola delivered a device with great cameras that takes advantage of content correction features via software so the can have great photos and videos.

What's in the box? 744s

Motorola Razr 50 box items (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

the box of Motorola Razr 50Ultra It comes with basic items so you can start using the device as soon as you turn it on. Are they:

  • Chip tray eject key
  • Instruction manual
  • 30W charger
  • USB-C cable

I missed the sending of protective covers for the screen and structure of the device, something that Motorola did with the launch of the Razr 40 series. Who knows, maybe it will return next year.

Price and availability 1s705x

At the time of writing this review, the Motorola Razr 50 was the cheapest foldable in 2024 in Brazil (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The foldable smartphone arrived in Brazil with a promotional price of R$3.999, but at the time of writing this review, it could be found for a little above that. See:

Considering these prices, it is plausible to say that the Motorola Razr 50 is the cheapest foldable phone on the market in 2024. The model is the competitor of the Galaxy z flip6, which despite having already been found for around R$3 this year, is currently being sold for around R$5 in its version with 256 GB of internal storage.

Conclusion 60664y

The device should drop in price and become even smarter as the months go by (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The Motorola Razr 50 improves on the initial idea of the model launched in July. What was already good is now even better. I often say in my reviews that, when putting AI features in your devices, it is necessary to add value. And time has vindicated Motorola.

Despite having some great AI features, it will be interesting to see how Motorola improves the use of its AI platform in the coming months. The one thing that remains to be desired here is a translation tool that uses both the internal and external screens, something seen on Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6. Google's Circle to Search feature would also be a great addition.

Internal screen has high quality (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Still, this foldable smartphone from Motorola has great cameras, a processor and a battery that is interesting enough to use on a daily basis. The price tag of R$4.500 may be considered a bit high for some people, but the Motorola Razr 50 is still one of the best foldables the company has ever developed in its entire history.
