Disney live-action fans were surprised by big news this morning. Disney released today, Monday, April 29th, on all its social networks, the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King” (“Mufasa: The Lion King” in the original English). The film, which will serve as a prelude to “The Lion King” (2019), was directed by Barry Jenkins, winner of the Oscar for Best Film with “Moonlight” (2016) in the 2017 edition, and scripted by Jeff Nathanson, the same screenwriter behind the first hit of 2019. 1w4n5i

In the cast, we will have names like Aaron Peter in the lead role as Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr., who will play a new character named Taka. Just like the 2019 feature, the film will combine elements of live-action film production with photorealistic computer-created images.

According to the official synopsis, Mufasa: The Lion King will be narrated from Rafiki's point of view as a story told to Kiara, the young lioness daughter of Simba and Nala. Told through flashbacks, the story presents Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a friendly lion named Taka, heir to a royal lineage. From this meeting comes a great journey in search of your destiny. The duo will have their bonds tested and will need to work together to escape a threatening and deadly enemy.

In the 2019 film, James earl jones, the original voice actor for Mufasa in the 1994 animation, was chosen to voice the character. However, this time, the film will have Aaron Peter in the lead role as Mufasa. The English actor has already worked with the director Barry Jenkins in the award-winning series “The Underground Railroad” and now they are working together again on this super production. About that, Kelvin Harrison Jr., American actor and producer known for “Luce"(2019) and"Monsters and Men” (2018), will bring to life a new character called Taka.

Other characters, such as the iconic duo Timon and Pumbaa, will once again receive the voices of Billy eichner e Seth Rogen, respectively. Like this John Kani, South African actor and director known for his character “Samuel” in the Stephen Hopkins film, who returns to reprise his role as Rafiki, an already well-known and very popular character from the franchise.

Other names that will be present in the cast are Beyoncé and his eldest daughter, Blue ivy carter. The singer, who gave voice to Nala in the first feature, returns to reprise her role and this time s her 12-year-old daughter, who will be the voice of a character called Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala.

Mufasa: The Lion King was directed by Barry Jenkins, who took on the role of Jon Favreau, director of the first hit of 2019. Barry Jenkins is an American filmmaker known for his work on “Moonlight“, winner of the Oscar for Best Film in 2017, and for the miniseries “The Underground Railroad“, a historical drama from Prime Video. He also directed other hits like “If Beale Street Could Talk” (2018) and participated in the production of works such as “Aftersun"(2022).

The 2019 film became the ninth highest grossing film in world cinema, raising more than US$ 1.663.000.000. Despite the low ratings from critics, the live-action film directed by Jon Favreau was a huge success that reached viewers around the world.

The film features the adventures experienced in the African savannah by the little lion Simba, heir to his father Mufasa. The evil uncle, Scar, plans to steal Mufasa's throne and, to do so, lures father and son into a trap, where he ends up killing the king and expelling Simba from the kingdom. Years and Simba learns to live with his new friends Timon and Pumbaa, until a change brings hope of returning to his kingdom and recovering his land, which was stolen by his uncle.

Right at the beginning of the trailer, we come across a new version of “Ciclo Sem Fim”, the classic soundtrack released in 1994, which marked the lives of many fans of the franchise. With the voice of John Kani as Rafiki, we are soon introduced to little Mufasa, portrayed as a lion born without a hint of nobility in his blood, but who would change our lives forever. Throughout the trailer, it is possible to observe some of the great adventures that Mufasa had as a child, as well as some new and well-known characters, such as Timon and Pumbaa.

The new trailer wasn't the only news released by Disney. With the new trailer, Disney also released a official poster announcing the film's release date in the United States. In it, we can see little Mufasa and his future reflection as king in a puddle of water.

According to the official poster, Mufasa: The Lion King premiere scheduled for the day December 20, 2024 our United States.
