NASA reveals the names of four astronauts for the next Artemis mission this Monday (03). See the latest information about the mission in this article.

The next trip to Moon is already being planned: under the name of Artemis Mission, the United States National Aeronautics and Space istration, also known as NASA, confirmed this Monday (03) all the names in the space capsule Orion. The event for the announcement of all the names took place at noon, at the Johnson Space Center, with live transmission on both agency website as for your Youtube channel. The Artemis mission, whose current phase is known as Artemis 2, is scheduled for November 2024. Unlike the previous trip, this time the new one will have a team inside the Orion capsule. However, the National Aeronautics and Space istration (NASA) does not intend to land on the Moon, although it plans that astronauts will be present on the lunar surface in the future.

The planned free return trajectory for Artemis 2 promises to be quite sophisticated. In the beginning, the aeronauts will have the opportunity to exercise, in addition to health care and housing . Both the transit to and from the Moon are expected to last four days, according to the US agency.

The human presence on Earth's natural satellite, in fact, is only expected to happen in the Artemis 3, which is expected to happen only in 2025. In other words, Artemis 2 is like a rehearsal for what is to come in the US agency's projects to explore the Moon and other planets. Another information that has already been advanced by the US space agency is that the 3rd mission will, for the first time, have a woman as a member.

The ceremony at the Johnson Space Center announced today the four participants of the second part of the Artemis mission: Christina Koch (44 years old), Jeremy Hanson (47), Reid Wiseman (47) and Victor Glover (46) are the astronauts confirmed by NASA to make the trip to the moon. Koch, Wiseman and Glover are Americans and astronaut Hanson is the one who will represent the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

Christina Koch is an electrical engineer with a record for spending 328 days in space: no woman before her had managed to spend that much time outside Earth. In October 2019, she participated in the first all-women mission in extravehicular activity, which happens when astronauts need to explore the outer space outside their ships.

Jeremy Hanson, representing Canada, was a former Airman in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Hanson will explore space for the first time thanks to the Artemis mission. Alongside Koch, he will work on the sidelines as a mission specialist on space travel.

Reid Wiseman, on the other hand, worked as a chief at NASA astronaut headquarters, but became a pilot in the US Navy as well. Wiseman even went into space in 2015, being on the International Space Station and, with this experience in leadership, he will be the commander in this new phase of space exploration.

Victor Glover is a test pilot, also a member of the US Navy. He started acting at NASA in 2013 and went to space in 2020 for the first time. He was the first African American to stay on the space station for a considerable six months, and is scheduled as a pilot on Artemis Phase 2.

“The Artemis 2 team represents thousands of people working tirelessly to take us to the stars. This is the team of that mission, is the our team, is the humanity team".

Canada: the new country that will the Artemis mission qu

Artemis Mission will count on the collaboration of several agencies around the world (Image: NASA/Reproduction).

Four astronauts will participate in the trip, three of them from NASA and one from Canada. Thus, the country becomes the second to travel to Earth's natural satellite. Participating in the lunar program of the North American agency, the country currently has only four astronauts in activity through the CSA, Space Agency Canada. With greater investments in aerospace research, NASA, in turn, has 42 active astronauts at the moment.

The new country that will be part of the mission will collaborate with a robotic arm, called canadarm 3. It will be attached to the Lunar Gateway, the extraterrestrial lunar station that will serve to orbit Earth's natural satellite, also being an initial step towards deep space exploration. Incidentally, the US space agency had already informed that the other US country will be on the Gateway, in the long term.

In addition to Canada, the European Space Agency (ESA) — the European Space Agency — and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Japan Space Exploration Agency) and other astronomy organizations are involved in the Artemis mission. Another striking difference in relation to the Apollo program trip, carried out more than 50 years ago, is that the mission will rely on modern technology for landing astronauts: the Human Landing System (Human Landing System, in free translation).

NASA's project with the Artemis 1 sought to allow the exploration of man in the lunar environment. The goal also involves a dream that has long been an ambition in space travel: getting to Mars. This first step in the long space journey ended on December 11 of last year, when the Orion capsule reached Earth, falling into the Pacific Ocean at midnight.

The initial trip of the Artemis project to Earth's natural satellite, the Moon, had a scheme prepared to intercalate Orion's orbit with the space object. (Image: CSA/NASA/Playback).

Artemis 1 had three phases in all. At first, the capsule Orion started from the Kennedy Space Center, to reach the Moon, to be able to fly around the natural satellite. Goal achieved, he returned to our planet in December, with NASA monitoring.

The initial phase of Artemis achieved a remarkable achievement: it reached more than 434 km away from our planet towards space, during its time outside our reach (25 and a half days). To give you an idea, the distance at which the International Space Station is, in relation to our planet, is a thousand times smaller than that.
