New Superman goes on a journey of self-discovery in new comic from DC Comics

DC Comics presents a new version of the classic hero, Superman (or Superman), that is different in many ways from its predecessor, and, in a big step towards representation, the comic book company reveals that its new Superman, Jon Kent, came out as bisexual in the magazine Son of Kal-El #5. 6a6511

Jon Kent is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, who stars in the Son of Kal-El saga, a kind of side story – but in the same main DC universe – to the intergalactic adventures of the Man of Steel, in which a 17-year-old Jon years struggle with the responsibility inherited through her father while dealing with the complications of entering adulthood. The fifth issue, which will be released in November, marks a milestone where the new Superman becomes romantically involved with young reporter Jay Nakamura.

Tom Taylor and the representation with the new Superman 6kz3k

Son of Kal-El authors Tom Taylor and John Timms are already known for their work with Harley Quinn, probably the best-known LGBT character in the DC Comics series. In an interview with IGN, Tom Taylor says that he has had several stories with LGBTQIA + representation rejected by the comics industry, but that "we are in a totally different place than five or ten years ago".

“I've always said that everyone needs superheroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes. Today, Superman, the strongest superhero on the planet, is coming out as bisexual.”

Tom Taylor, writer of Son of Kal-El, in an interview with IGN.

Jim Lee, editor at DC Comics, added:

We talk a lot about the power of the DC multiverse in our narratives and this is another amazing example. We can have Jon Kent exploring his identity in the comics at the same time that Jon Kent discovers his family secrets on TV in Superman & Lois. They coexist in their own worlds and times, and our fans get to enjoy both at the same time.

The first three editions of Son of Kal-El are now available to read, with the fourth edition available on October 19th and the fifth edition scheduled for November 9th. So, what do you think of this news? Suitably impactful or not?
