Those who follow me know that, like many, I am a former lover of Nokia and I would very much like her to be making devices with Android. Several rumors have already emerged indicating that the much-loved company is thinking about diversifying its portfolio, today focused on Windows Phone da Microsoft.
Behold, then, in an interview for the Spanish newspaper El País, the boss of Nokia, Stephen Elop replied as follows:
The country: Do you rule out launching an Android device next year?
Elop: In the current ecosystem war we are using Windows Phone as a weapon. But we are always thinking about what will come next, what will be the rule for HTML5, Android…. HTML5 may be the entire platform Android, Windows Phone or any other operating system may be irrelevant in the future, but it's still too early to say. Today we are committed and satisfied with Microsoft, but anything is possible.
Rumors have always been strong, but the Nokia always dodged and denied that one day he would work with the system Android. However, in late 2012 it began to hire software engineers focused on the languages used to develop the Android (ok, not just for Android). The news doesn't confirm much, but it was the first time that someone from Nokia demonstrates to the market the possibility of using other operating systems for smartphones (if you don't tell the joke that the company made in the Twitter in September last year).
My reading has always been that Christmas 2012 sales would be the thermometer for Nokia, and that the decision would be made there. However, with the Windows Phone with a market share below even the Bada da Samsung, Nokia having to lay off employees, sell buildings and in free fall in the market share (lost to Samsung in 2012), it is clear that the strategy of the Nokia really need to change.
I remain affirmed, I think we will have a Android da Nokia announced yet in Q1-2013. Will it be? Hope so. And you, would you like a Nokia with Android?
