Although Carpenter was determined to “kill” Myers in Halloween II: The Nightmare Continues! the character proved so popular as to be resurrected. Since then, Michael Myers has gained a franchise to call his own and it took Laurie Strode a lifetime to find peace.

If I could sum this film up in one word, it would definitely be “iconic”. Of course, nowadays, if we put Generation Z to watch this classic, the risk of having laughter in the background is much greater, considering the somewhat dated visual effects. But it is undeniable that The Exorcist, by William Friedkin, is a huge reference in the horror industry and remains one of the scariest audiovisual works ever made. One of the greatest classics of the 70s, so to speak.

Linda Blair got her name by playing Regan MacNeil, a teenager who was possessed by an evil spirit. Her mother desperately seeks help from two priests, appealing to God and the world for her daughter's soul.

The greatest terror in all of this is the fact that there is no prayer to stop Regan from turning her head, spewing horrors while laughing evilly and prophesying the most disgusting vulgarities a church could face. It's the clear message that no one is safe that installs the horror – going beyond the graphic.

Slasher, here we come! The 1970s were fundamental for the construction of this horror subgenre and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre by Tobe Hooper was definitely the catalyst. 

In the story, a group of friends come across a disturbing house in Texas, inhabited by a family of frenzied cannibals led by one of history's most iconic villains, Leatherface. With a mask sewn from human skin and the iconic chainsaw, the killer is responsible for many extremely disturbing scenes.

It is also in this film that we have our first “final girl” in history. Sally (Marilyn Burns) becomes the pioneer of the few survivors in slasher stories and becomes an icon in the genre. The scene where she escapes in the back of a car, completely covered in blood, is unforgettable.

In the story, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) begins a journey that will change the galaxy. A tip is: don't watch the remake from 2018 without first going through this original from 1977. The aesthetics approached by Dario Argento makes all the difference to understand the purpose of the film and how it is just a piece of the whole that the director built in his career.

Suspiria, one of the classics of the 70s, is the first part of the three mothers trilogy, made by Argento. In it, an American newcomer to a prestigious German ballet academy realizes that the school is a front for something sinister in the midst of a series of gruesome murders. With the exception of the next film, 1980's “Inferno”, the director has never made anything as impressive as “Suspiria”.

The stunning colors, the overly dramatic acting and strategic camera moves provide a touch of beauty to the most brutal and iconic scenes imaginable. It's experimental cinema that worked and even though Luca Guadagnino tried to replicate the formula, he wasn't as successful.
