These four categories are considered the most important of the night, after all they reward the three pillars of a film: the script, the direction and the production (the statuette for the best film goes to the producers). u2j3c
BEST ADAPTED SCRIPT 2o6t6m
This category has existed since the 1st Academy Awards in 1929. The basis of a screenplay can be a novel, short story, magazine article, comic book or any material from which the screenwriter is inspired to tell a story. This year the 5 nominees come from a variety of sources.
Some winners in this category include:
The actress Emma Thompson, who won byReason and sensibility” (1996) – the only actress to achieve this feat; Adapted from the novel by Jane Austen.
Phillipa Boyens, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh by "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2004), making Jackson and Walsh the only couple to win a screenplay award. Adapted from the epic of JRR Tolkien.
James Ivory by "Call Me By Your Name” (2018). Ivory even became the oldest screenwriter to win the award, at 89. Based on André Aciman's novel of the same name.
The Oscar nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay are:
“Lovely Women” 3f1e51
Written by Greta Gerwig.
Adapted from the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, “Little women”.
This novel has been adapted countless times for film and television. Gerwig's adaptation takes certain liberties, but they work perfectly.
This is 3rd indication by Gerwig, she was previously nominated for the screenplay and direction of “Lady Bird: Time to Fly"(2018)

"Joker" 1v4i18
Written by Todd Phillips & Scott Silver.
Adapted from the DC universe and characters created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane & Jerry Robinson. The Joker character first appeared in 1 in one of the Batman volumes.
The writing duo chose to discard everything that had been done on the Joker character to tell a dark and efficient origin story. An excellent job.
This is 2rd indication for screenwriter Scott Silver, he was nominated in 2011 for the drama “The winner“. Todd Philips, on the other hand, receives for “Joker” a triple indication: Adapted Screenplay, Direction and Film. He had previously been nominated in the Adapted Screenplay category for “Borat” in 2008.

“Two Popes” 4e435t
Written by Anthony McCarten.
Based on his own play.
The film is directed by Brazilian Fernando Meirelles ( "City of God")
The play is a long conversation between the two actors, so the challenge was to transport it to the cinema. Here McCarten adds a new dimension to the characters, especially that of Pope Francis. Available on Netflix.
This is 4rd indication for McCarten, he had been nominated by Adapted Roap e Best movie (as producer) of “The theory of everything” (2015) and also as one of the producers “The Fate of a Nation"(2018).

"Jojo Rabbit" 5j4r3i
Written by Taika Waititi. Based on the novel"The sky that oppresses us” by Christine Leunens. Book finally translated into Portuguese.
I don't know Leunens' work, but the satire created by Taika Waititi is simply brilliant and at the same time touching and dramatic.
This is 2nd and 3rd nomination from Waiti to the Oscars – he is also nominated as one of the producers of “Jojo Rabbit”. His first nomination came in the Short Fiction category for “Two Cars, One Night” in 2005.

"The Irishman" 2u6n2m
Written by steven zillian.
Based on the biography"The Irishman: Frank Sheeran's Crimes in the Service of the Mafia” by Charles Brandt.
Martin Scorsese's robust film lasts 3h30, that is, an immense work by screenwriter Steven Zaillian.
This is 5rd indication from Zaillian to the Oscars. He won in 1994 for “Schindler's List"

WHO DESERVES TO WIN:
“Jojo Rabbit” or “Little Women”
They are completely different scripts, but both bring a freshness in their adaptations.
WHO WILL WIN:
"Jojo Rabbit"
I believe Taika Waititi has the upper hand, especially after his BAFTA (British Film and Television Academy) win last weekend.
BEST ORIGINAL SCRIPT 591f12
This category only received this name in 1940. Until this year the Academy awarded a category called best story.
Original Screenplay is one that is not based on any previous material. It must be something completely new.
Some films that have won the category in the past are truly original: “Little Miss Sunshine"(2006),"Ela"(2013) and"Run"(2017)
The Oscar nominees for Best Original Screenplay are:
"1917" 4h5e37

Written by Sam Mendes & Kristy Wilson-Cairns.
I don't think the film's script is incredibly original, because basically the action takes place between point A and point B. It's a technically irrepressible film, but it's not the most original script.
This is 1rd indication for Kristy Wilson-Cairns. For Sam Mendes, the film earned him 3 nominations: Screenplay, Direction and Film.
“Between Knives and Secrets” 4r6363

Written by Rian Johnson.
Another script that I think is far from original. The film is a tribute to the great classics of Agatha Christie, but I don't think Rian Johnson wrote his most original script here. I still prefer the far superior"Looper: Assassins of the Future”From 2012.
this is yours 1rd indication.
"Once upon a time in ... Hollywood" 3j3ee
Written by Quentin Tarantino.
The script for this film is Tarantino's homage to a late 60's Hollywood, with complex characters, wonderful dialogue and an unbelievable climax. Many didn't like that this is the director's least “bloody” film, but it's definitely a mature film and very well written.
This film gave the director 3 nominations: Original Screenplay, Direction and Film.
Tarantino reaches a total of 8 nominations: he was nominated by Original Screenplay e Direction by "Pulp Fiction” (1995), for which he won Screenplay.
Again in 2010 as Original Screenplay e Direction by "Inglourious Basterds" and finally, Original Screenplay by "Django Unchained” in 2013, for which he received the award.
“Marriage Story” 4x3d25
Written by Noah Baumbach.
As a movie connoisseur, I can't help but compare this film to the Oscar winner for Best Picture in 1980, "Kramer vs. Kramer“. Baumbach claims his film is based on his own experiences from his divorce from actress Jennifer Jason Leigh, but I didn't find it original enough.
Baumbach receives here two nominations for the film, as Original Screenplay e Movie. He was previously indicated by “The Squid and the Whale” (2006), also a film about divorce (this time based on her parents' divorce).
"Parasite" 1o5g29
Written by Bong Joon-Ho & Jin Won Han.
For me this is by far the most original script of the year. The film is social commentary, drama, comedy, thriller all condensed into one brilliant narrative.
South Korean director Bong Joon Ho repeats the feat of Sam Mendes, Todd Phillips and Tarantino and receives three indications Oscar 2020 for his film: Original Screenplay, Direction and Film.
WHO DESERVES TO WIN:
"Parasite"
Unquestionably the most original film of 2019.
WHO WILL WIN:
"Parasite"
Bong Joon Ho should finally get the recognition he deserves.
BETTER DIRECTION 1l6n2l
The Oscar for Best Director is given to the director (or rarely directors) of a film. The director's job is to imprint his vision and control the artistic and dramatic aspects of a film.
All departments must the director's approval, from costume to makeup, from photography to score.
Certain directors tend to work with the same teams for years – after all, finding a fruitful collaboration and a rhythm is something very complex. Some directors even repeat the same actors: Scorsese, for example, has worked countless times with De Niro e DiCaprio. Tarantino worked in several films with the actors Samuel L. Jackson e Uma Thurman.
The category of Best Direction it has existed since 1929, when directors were awarded in the dramatic and comedy categories. The category has a strong correlation with Best movie: of the 91 films that won in the category, on 65 occasions the director was also awarded, that is, more than 70% of the films won this “combo”.
Only 5 movies in Oscar history won the top prize without their director even being nominated: “Wings"(1929),"Grande Hotel"(1932),"Driving Miss Daisy","Argon” (2013) and one of the weakest Oscar winners, “Green Book – The Guide"(2019)

The category is marked however by a lack of diversity in both ethnicity and gender. Most of the nominees and winners are white men. Black directors were nominated only on 6 occasions and female directors only on 5 occasions.
The five nominees for the 2020 Oscar for Best Director are:
BONG JOON-HO for “Parasite” 2k3o5f
Bong Joon-Ho's direction is normally filled with social commentary and a certain magical realism. His previous films are definitely more fanciful, but the depth achieved in this film is second to none. His best work as a director, for sure.
-
Bong Joon-Ho on the set of “Parasite”
MARTIN SCORSESE for “The Irishman” 1828p
Scorsese is the most veteran director of this Oscar. His films are usually robust and his direction is irable. Actors beg to work with him, as his films are thematically challenging and often violent. I confess that his work in this film did not impress me as much as his previous works.
The director receives his 14rd indication to the Oscars, 8th as director. He won in 2007 for his excellent film “The Departed".

QUENTIN TARANTINO for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” 2h694o
Tarantino is known in the industry for his “author cinema”, meaning the language of his films is similar and easily recognizable. And in fact, his 9 feature films have a common thread of graphic violence, long dialogues and long takes.
This film is no different, all its characteristics are very present, in a matured version of Tarantino from “Pulp Fiction”.

SAM MENDES for “1917” 715g
Unlike Tarantino, Sam Mendes would not fit in as “author cinema”. His films are very different from each other, ing through the universe James Bond, with "007 – Operation Skyfall"(2012) and"007 Against Specter” (2015), going to intimate dramas like “It was just a dream"(2008) and"American Beauty“, which won him the Oscar for Best Director in 2000.
In “1917”, Mendes does his best work, with an absolutely mature direction and sensational choices in the technical aspect.

TODD PHILLIPS for “Joker” 6z1a4k
Todd Phillips doesn't have a particularly interesting filmography, so it really was a surprise to see him direct such a dark and mature film. The choices he has made as both writer, director and producer are irable and his directing work is a pleasant surprise.

WHO DESERVES TO WIN:
"1917"
It is the toughest and most demanding driving job of all the nominees. An irable job.
WHO WILL WIN:
"1917"
As much as the talent in the category is undeniable, Sam Mendes performed his masterpiece and should not leave without the statuette of the ceremony.
BEST MOVIE 5o6a3k
And finally we come to the most important category of the night: the category of Best movie.
Since the first ceremony in 1929, 91 movies who emerged victorious, some acclaimed by the public and critics and others who polarized audiences. Some still remain in the popular imagination, and others, after a few years, have fallen into oblivion.
Regardless of the result, everyone who likes cinema wants to know who will take the prize. And they want to know how many statuettes the film took that night.
If we think in numbers, the films that received the most awards in a single night, with 11 awards each, were: "Ben-Hur"(1960),"Titanic"(1998) and"Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"(2004).
No Oscar 2020, the only movie that could make it onto this select list would be “Joker“, which is up for 11 Oscars, but the likelihood of that happening is nil.
the prize of Best movie goes to the producer or, more commonly, a team of producers. And why the producer and not the director of the film? The producer is the one who heads any film, from an organizational point of view. It is from this professional that the ideation and subsequent development of a film comes from. It is the producer, for example, who hires a director for a film, in certain cases.
Often the producer is also the director of the film, as is the case with many films at the 2020 Oscars.
Here are the 2020 Oscar nominees for Best Picture:

WHO DESERVES:
“1917” or “Parasite”
For me two completely different and equally deserving works. One is an epic production, with a fantastic technical aspect and the other is a small independent film of absurd creativity.
WHO WILL WIN:
"Parasite"
I think the Academy, which is mostly made up of actors, and who recently awarded the film in the "Actors Guild" will finally award a film not spoken in English. The Korean film has everything to make history.
