After bringing us a deeper look into the history of Sofia Falcone in the last episode, the fifth episode of the series Penguin advances the story with very welcome news for the Gotham mafia universe. Come check out the details with me in this review! 4q4m3w

But first, be warned that this review contains SPOILERS, so go ahead, watch the episode and then come back here, okay?

A New Family for Gotham's Mafia 6n4k4u

Sofia Falcone, now Sofia Gigante (Image: Warner Bros)

Sofia killed all the Falcone in the last episode, letting through only Johnny Vitti and the little girl who I guess is her cousin. The new episode starts from this and the police investigation into this case. If before Sofia Falcone was an innocent character who was afraid of things, it is from here on that we will see her as a leader.

The Batman it relies heavily on history The Long Halloween da DC, this where we have the emergence of characters like Two-Face and here in the series it's no different. We still have a lot of this source, especially in the matter of Sofia and the mafia, but the script is smart and interesting enough to create something new.

So instead of going with the Falcone and the Maroni, this episode undoes everything to make way for something new. On Sofia's side, she ends the Falcones and in memory of her mother, a Giant, is now called Sofia Gigante.

Oz in Penguin (Image: Warner Bros)

Oz also takes a cruel attitude and goes after the Maroni. He kidnaps their son and asks for the mushrooms to make Bliss in exchange for the boy. Like a good mafia story, in the middle of the process, violence breaks out and Oz sets both the boy and his mother, Nadia, on fire, while also paying a guard to finish off Salvatore.

The plan Oz was perfect except for the fact that Savior is not stupid and is not dead. This generates a conflict and a very unexpected relationship: Sofia and Salvatore, something that was left for the next episode, but that certainly left a taste of wanting more.

These conflicts in this episode were great and are all reflections of the development of the world and the characters created so far. It's a masterpiece in the text and narrative that ties everything together and managed to make me vibrate in each scene. Oz killing Nadia It's a very heavy scene, but it's believable in the world of crime.

Salvatore and Sofia (Image: Warner Bros)

Sofia abandoned the idea of justifying herself and is now a leader of nothing. She spared Johnny Viti only to demonstrate strength in front of the henchmen later in a scene that left me open-mouthed because it came so unexpectedly. And in all of this we still have the return of Dr. Julian Rush. I like the actor, but his character hasn't proven to be interesting enough yet. It seems like he's going to be Sofia's luxury henchman from now on, but he still comes across as someone out of place.

And of course, we also have the return of Vic. The boy had his moment of development in past episodes and here we see the result. Previously a scared boy, now he is ready to get involved in the Gotham mafia. He is an interesting character to follow, I don't want to see him in a tragic end, but at the same time, I have the impression that this could happen at any moment.

Rhenzy Feliz is Vic (Image: Warner Bros)

The episode ended with Oz ing an old Gotham tunnel where he spent time as a child, which should become his base of operations in the next episodes. Interestingly, we also saw that Oz and his family came from the same place Vic in the city, this flooded when the Charade blew up everything in the movie.

Penguin manages to be a mafia series very well, regardless of Batman and that's really cool. Still, the mythology and references are there and they work really well. The new things implemented here are more than welcome and I'm really curious to see how this will impact the second film, scheduled for 2026. There are still 3 episodes left and a lot can happen and my excitement only increases.

Actuations 733j4n

Salvatore Maroni (Image: Warner Bros)

Once again, I begin by highlighting Cristin Milioti here. Although it's not an episode entirely focused on her, her moments are great. The actress manages to bring good nuances and a change from sadness to frightening seriousness. Notice the beginning of the episode when the police officer summons her. It's sensational.

Colin Farrel also deserves a lot of praise here. His character requires a much more physical performance and his discomfort in walking, for example, is always very convincing. Furthermore, Oz He didn't have any peace at all this week. Whether it was because he was committing crimes, worried about his mother or very angry because his plan went wrong, you could barely see that sarcastic little smile of his.

Sofia Gigante (Image: Warner Bros)

Rhenzy Felix gets screen time here again and it's really interesting to see the perspective of a "child" in the middle of crime. The actor manages to convey his desperation very well in the middle of all the mess that is living in the middle of the Gotham mafia, at the same time we have the boy's outburst when kidnapping Salvatore's son, showing a different side of him.

Speaking of Savior, Clancy Brown was finally released in this episode, even if unofficially. If before, the classic actor seemed out of place, now he has enough reasons to appear frequently and become one of the main antagonists. The highlight of his performance here is his grief over the death of his wife and son and also for having to ally himself with a Falcone, even if she is now a Giant.

Technical aspects 2e2i1i

Oz and Taj, Salvatore's son (Image: Warner Bros)

I could use this topic just to talk about the costumes of Sofia and her haircuts. She looks different every episode. While this may represent her completely crazy state of mind, it also works as a form of appreciation.

The production is also very committed to the sets, keeping the debris created by the flood in the film and making it clear that the area is basically abandoned. The return of With O'Neill as Gotham's Chief of Police is also a good detail to give continuity to this universe.

The overall technical quality remains excellent as always and even though the scenarios don't vary much, it doesn't get boring and always keeps us close to the characters. The camera play in the scenes is also an important point. Many times we have a strange angle as if we were hidden in that scene. It's really cool and also increases the immersion.

Soundtrack 51333

Another merit of the series. Although it is not present all the time, it stands out in moments of tension and causes a good impact. Just by the soundtrack we can already get an idea of what may happen. I didn't mention it in previous posts, but the credits also always feature a song, almost always a cover of a well-known song and it works well for the series' proposal.

Conclusion 60664y

Sofia Gigante and Johnny Vitti (Image: Warner Bros)

Penguin remains very solid in quality throughout its 5 released episodes. It is creative, develops its characters very well and piques our curiosity for what comes next week. I've said it before and I'll say it again that don't get carried away Batman That's a huge compliment here and as much as I'd like to see the bat arriving to sort things out, it's not like he's missed either.

It's definitely one of the best series of the year and all I can think about is what might or might not happen in the last three episodes. See you next week.

Where to watch 4m2n35
