In yet another partnership between Roku and smart TV manufacturers here in Brazil, comes the excellent Philco Roku TV; We tested it and told you all about it!

Almost exactly one year after the platform's arrival Roku in Brazil, we have the launch of the first national TV with Roku 4K resolution, the result of a partnership between the company and the manufacturer PHILCO. Baptized Philco RokuTV, television brings technologies that aim to improve performance in of image and audio. In the last few days, I've tested Philco Roku TV (with the practical interface and all the customization options!) and I'll tell you here review my experience. 4a1e1k

Design and highlights 6z646l

Philco Roku TV arrived in Brazil in January. In of design, the television seems to follow a pattern even when changing manufacturers. The thin edges and discreet base are traditional in today's 4K models, however, we highlight the "Roku TV" logo in the lower right corner of the screen (identical to AOC's Roku). On the left side, we have the seal Dolby Audio quality.

We need to point out: the edges are incredibly thin. It's impressive.

A leap of evolution was the arrival of basic options in several resolutions: in addition to the 50-inch option that we tested, the philco brings models of 32 (HD), 42 (Full HD) and 58 inches (4K). With this vast catalog and the uniformity of the operating system, which ranges from basic to the highest 4K, we see the effectiveness of adapting an OS to all audiences. Detail that this is something rare to find in other manufacturers, which usually take other versions of the interface to lines with different resolutions.

Inside, the Philco Roku TV comes with a processor quad core which, together with the simplified interface, is made to avoid crashes in the transition between apps and guarantee good performance in everything. In of connectivity, it has 4 HDMI inputs (one ARC), two USB 2.0, one for video and stereo audio (RCA), an open TV connection, an optical audio output and a P2 (for headphones). There are enough connections for everything, point to philco!

O It has a frequency of 60Hz and an infinity edge design, capable of playing content HDR10 – that is, with high dynamic range, with a good contrast ratio. Straight out of the box, the TV presented a satisfactory result when attention was focused on color fidelity. (https://yellowtail.tech) Furthermore, exploring the functionalities of Philco RokuTV, I found the big secret to make the visualization even better: the image profiles.

In a bright environment (in other words, during the day, in my tests) the most pleasant picture mode was “vivid”. In a darker room, I recommend “low energy” – it is also possible to adjust the brightness manually, but the result of the pre-configured profile was more practical and equally efficient.

Red bird in 4k resolution
This is a photo (taken by an intermediate cell phone) of the TV screen in exact centering of the edges. That is, facing Philco Roku TV, 4K content looks like this.

4K videos on YouTube, like the macaw in the image above, are like the “benchmarks ideals” of testing displays. In this case, I had fantastic results in color and contrast. However, nothing was better than a giant trio of streams in 4K UHD (Netflix, Apple TV + e Disney +) to test the Philco Roku TV's picture performance.

In Disney's service, a major recent draw was the spectacularGolden Globe I won. The feature was made to be shown on movie screens and was taken to the streaming, so it is to be expected that a 4K TV can reproduce the smallest details without much loss of information. I say that so much Soul as blockbuster Avengers: Endgame had a good adaptation on the 50-inch “screen”, which in the living room (due to the proximity to the sofa) is equivalent to the wide viewing angle that a movie screen would occupy.

Between colorful scenes from Pixar, a series of trips around the world and the success Bridgerton da Netflix, Philco Roku TV performed evenly in spectacular fashion – even having my mother's approval, in everyday use. Dealing with the screen reflection, the Smart TV meets the screen standards of entry-level 4K models on the market. Therefore, it neither disappoints nor surprises. Normal level brightness is nice and the contrast as a whole (and not just by HDR10) is enough to watch anything.

By the way, displaying game content at Philco RokuTV also lived up to expectations. In addition, included in the system, the game mode reduces the response time to just 8 milliseconds, which was more than enough to not feel uncomfortable (or delay) when enjoying action titles such as racing games and first-person shooters. Like most 4K televisions, we have 60Hz here, so it's not the most ideal for the new generation of consoles that up to 120Hz in 4K, however, it serves as an exquisite answer to those who want to enjoy UHD content.

Whether playing games or watching high resolution gameplay, Philco Roku TV did not disappoint!

At first glance, the audio of the Philco RokuTV sounded with greater compression than expected. Already knowing the image modes, it was enough to configure the sound profiles to match the displayed content. While “normal” sounds pretty muffled (the one that comes pre-configured, straight out of the box), the “theater” mode was the most versatile. I believe this is a literal translation of theater, when the sound would better match the alternative translation from English to our language: cinema.

You can feel the extra dimension in the profile, even more so in combination with programs that Dolby Audio. The mode made good impressions with rock concerts, games, “afternoon session” series and action movies – John Wick 3 No. Amazon Prime Video deserves an honorable mention. At medium volume level 20, the Roku TV brings great definition and is ideal for compact spaces; the pair of speakers with a power of 12W only starts to lose definition around the 60's, especially in the reproduction of scenes with dialogues and soundtrack in greater evidence.

The grid arrangement makes Philco Roku TV's navigation straight to the point.

The main point of TV could not fail to have a special highlight here at review. The Roku system, which is certainly the strongest differentiator of the product, has the options distributed in a very accessible way. For having the pleasure of pre-testing the Roku Express (in parallel with another streaming player) last year, it was a matter of seconds to the navigation logic in the intuitive Roku system. Even so, first-time navigators will not experience any difficulty.

Since setup initial start, the system guides you with caution – there is even a video company official in YouTube. In the installation, however, I had a small “choke” of boat initial: Philco Roku TV successfully connected to Wi-Fi, updated the system and forced to go through the same prompts exactly three times – even (apparently) having already installed the latest version. After that, the setup it was very easy. Just via the URL provided and then link my to Philco Roku TV.

King kong on philco roku tv
In Philco Roku TV's Research section, I found all versions of King Kong that I'm interested in (even the 2005 movie extended version).

The “Search” section works as a JustWatch because when you enter the name of a movie, episode or even the director, you have the results of services available for purchase, rent or for those included in your streaming. Whoever subscribes to at least three services will have an advantage, since titles tend to be rotating – and, when new streams for here, a function like this comes in very handy.

In of customization, the Roku also gains positive points. The most explicit (and least functional) is the theme, with some included in the installation and others available for . The one of burning motorcycles has a very nice yellow text pattern and black background. After making the most of the to be part of our menus, a nice surprise was being able to configure the TV to automatically start on a specific HDMI input, which saves you from having to intersperse controls and also having to do the same mechanical repetition whenever you want to watch cable TV.

The Philco Roku TV remote has shortcuts to a good quartet of services!

Still talking about the control of the Philco RokuTV, the separation ofHome” and the back and “replay snapshot” (for the previous channel/app) are easy to . We also have the forward, backward and play / pause in the reproduction of content, an absolute necessity for addicts of streaming. Batteries are not shipped together, unfortunately.

As it is derived from a stream box, the Roku suffers from a subtle drawback: it is not possible to overlay the menu with a navigation bar between applications. This facility is useful for those who want to decide to switch apps before leaving the current one, for example. As, over time, I got used to both Tizen (Samsung) and webOS (LG) systems, is something I noticed and missed. On the other hand, the four service shortcuts on the remote control (Netflix, balloon play, Google Play e HBO Go) help a lot, since the competition usually has at most a couple of these in their controls.

I would still like to highlight the app for Android and iOS smartphones, which unifies both Roku systems (TV and Roku Express) and provides dozens of practical shortcuts. The response time is immediate, by the way. It also solves the recurring problem of typing in TV text fields, without having to select letter by letter with the remote control's "arrows". Let's face it, typing on mobile is much easier.

Philco Roku TV 50 and 58 inch models also the Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. That is, iOS device owners can share content directly from the device to the TV. And, of course, whoever owns an Android can also display personal files on the big screen (via app) and mirror the from mobile on Roku TV.

Conclusion 60664y

A Philco RokuTV It is a spectacular product that differentiates itself from the other competitors by the operating system. From a first-time 4K TV consumer perspective, having intuitive access to channels and apps makes the product worthwhile. The 50-inch model arrived for an MSRP of R$3.399,00 and can be found today at Showmetech's official store at Magazine LuizaBy R$2.999.

Speaking of the cost-benefit ratio between recent releases, unfortunately the Roku TV is still somewhat at a disadvantage, with values up to 20% more expensive than other 4K (with equivalent technical specifications) released from October until now. On the other hand, the system's flexibility optimization, capable of adapting to multiple sizes and resolutions of the Philco Roku TV line, results in a great sound and image experience in Roku's unique interface. If it's worth it? Certainly! Excellent set at a fair price.
