Toy Story 2 is the direct sequel to the 1995 film and was directed again by John Lasseter. Although it was initially intended as a direct-to-DVD release, the quality of the film during production meant that Disney and Pixar chose to release it theatrically. The film was a critical and financial success, grossing more than $511M monthly all around the world.
