A Samsung tries to cover a specific space between its top of the line smartphone and the intermediate models. Before, it was the “mini” versions of the Galaxy S line that filled this space. O Galaxy A5 (2016) gained many of the design features of the Galaxy S6, only with a less rounded appearance. The glass back and metal sides give it a firm and comfortable grip. The rear camera's small bulge can make it slip on smoother surfaces, worth the reminder.
The volume buttons are on the left side, separated from each other. The power button is on the right side, along with the Nano SIM and microSD card tray. At the top there is just a microphone, while at the bottom are the speaker (in a position where the finger always ends up covering it), the headphone plug and the micro USB input.

The device runs the Android Lollipop 5.1 with the TouchWiz customization layer. I repeat what I wrote in the latest Samsung device reviews: the company has significantly improved its software. There is no news for those who have already used a smartphone or tablet.
The settings menu is well-organized, native apps have Material Design strokes, the notification bar has quick shortcuts, and the camera can be quickly activated with two clicks on the main button. The number of pre-installed apps can be a bit annoying and there are some unnecessary repetitions, like two browsers (Chrome and Internet). The list of apps has, among others, OneDrive, Skype and Microsoft's productivity suite.

The set proved to be competent to take pictures in bright environments or with natural lighting. It sometimes disappoints by blowing out bright parts of an image; in these cases not even HDR can help much. The quality of the photos decreases considerably in low lighting conditions: graininess is present and the colors are more washed out.
The A5 also has the "Pro", for those who like to play around with the settings for shooting. Unfortunately, the software is not as complete as on the Galaxy S6 and S7 and only gives you options to control ISO, exposure and white balance.

In between are performance and software. The real problem with the device is the price: it is difficult to accept paying more than 2 thousand reais for a model that is not the flagship.
There are other smartphones as good or better than the Galaxy A5 for more inviting prices. The market hasn't been so generous to the consumer in recent months, and in those cases it's interesting to look at last year's high-end models, which still deliver a superior overall experience to models like this one.
