With a battery that lasts 14 hours under intense use and great performance, Samsung's first notebook with Qualcomm's ARM processor impresses in tests. Check out what we think

Launched in Brazil in early January 2025, the Galaxy Book4 Edge comes as an interesting option as it has a processor manufactured by Qualcomm, instead of traditional Intel processors. In addition to good performance, Samsung highlights the battery life of up to 27 hours. See our full review. 47672n

Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge
Galaxy Book4 Edge has a simple and elegant design (Photo: Disclosure)

I start the review of Galaxy Book4 Edge highlighting that it is an extremely light notebook. With an official weight of 1,50 kg and an impressive thickness of just 15 millimeters, the device can easily be placed in a backpack, briefcase or bag and carried everywhere. With the of its long-lasting battery, which we will talk about later, portability is a given here.

Released in color Blue Silver, its sturdy cover has the Samsung logo and a metal body that puts elegance as the icing on the cake. All the keys are black and there is a small separation to avoid typing errors. The keyboard standard follows ABNT2, with special keys such as cedilla present in the design.

Keyboard is not backlit (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

I really liked the layout of the keys here and the design ABNT2 It resembles the keyboard on my everyday notebook, avoiding having to adapt again in the first few hours of use. The most special detail that also makes a big difference to me is the numeric keypad on the right corner for easy typing.

What I really missed here were the media control keys for playing, pausing, and skipping to the next song. It's not a huge problem, but it would be nice to have. You can still change the volume using the F6, F7, and F8 keys, but you'll have to open the music app's preview to skip, pause, or skip to the next song.

The keyboard is not backlit, which forces you to turn on the ambient light at night. For those who like to have an AI assistant nearby, the key to activate artificial intelligence Copilot, integrated into the Windows, it's enough to be a good shortcut.

About the entries, it is clear that the Samsung continues with its position of using USB-A ports less and less and here at GalaxyBook4 Edge we only have one, located on the right side. Also here, there is a P2 type headphone input and a microSD card reader.

On the left side, we have an HDMI input and two USB-C ports that follow the Thunderbolt 4 standard for recharging the battery and also for video transmission, if you prefer. The device doesn't skimp, but it doesn't have many inputs either. I would add at least one more USB-A port here to use the smartphone and perhaps another device connected to these ports, but since manufacturers are sending more and more USB-C cables, there's a discount. We end up with this:

  • 2x USB-C (4.0)
  • 1x HDMI 2.1 (s 4K at 60 Hz)
  • 1x USB-A (3.2)
  • 1x Micro SD card slot
  • 1x 2mm headphone/microphone jack
  • 1x security slot

It is also worth highlighting the fingerprint reader on the on/off button of the screen, which prevents you from typing your s in public and thus prevents any leaks. Just touch your finger and both the operating system and your s will be released in less than a second.

Screen has anti-reflective layer (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

O Galaxy Book4 Edge arrives at Brazil with a 15,6-inch screen with edges that Samsung claims to be minimal, but they are still quite visible. With a 60Hz refresh rate, it also has an anti-reflective layer that makes it easier to use in high-light environments.

With a 16:9 aspect ratio, the screen displays images in FHD resolution (1920×1080), and the peak brightness of the screen is 500 nits when the HDR filter is activated. Samsung highlights the feature vision booster, an increase in brightness, for better viewing of photos and videos of the new GalaxyBook4.

The use in open environments is very assertive and to test the model completely, I went to an open park to see if the layer was really good. And that's exactly what it is: the colors are well displayed even when we are in the sun and there were no relevant changes that could be a problem in everyday life.

Within the Samsung Settings, you can choose between five display modes according to your needs. My favorite is dynamic, but how you'll use the device on a daily basis will say more about that than my choice, but it's good to have it here.

Processor (U, GPU, NPU) 3u653y

Processor has the same processor architecture seen in smartphones (Photo: Disclosure)

For Galaxy Book4 Edge, Samsung chose to put the Snapdragon X Plus, an intermediate version of notebook processors. In addition to having the NPU chip for artificial intelligence activities developed by Qualcomm, this option stands out for having the ARM architecture.

Processors ARM use architecture RISC, with a reduced set of simpler and more efficient instructions, while the x64 follow the model CISC, with more complex and versatile instructions, but which consume more resources.

Qualcomm processor delivers high performance with low power consumption (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

This makes ARMs more efficient in of power consumption and heat generation, making them ideal for mobile devices and servers optimized for efficiency. We have the same architecture as smartphone processors, ensuring better battery life without having to sacrifice performance.

Let's move on to the practical use of each of the parts of the processor.

Gaming Performance 2rq5b

Processor lacks games adapted to new architecture (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Since it is a relatively new architecture, the biggest problem in of games is that developers need to adapt technologies to work on the ARM architecture. Which, well, is still progressing slowly. I needed to access the website Windows on Arm Ready Software to check which games (and applications) were running and thus have a verdict.

starting with Fortnite, Epic Games has not yet done the work of making the adaptation, taking it off the testing list. The same goes for Destiny 2: There is no for ARM processors yet. The lack of AAA options simply prevented me from doing more intensive testing.

Galaxy Book4 Edge didn't run Fortnite during our tests (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

That said, I was able to test Overcooked! 2 and the result was excellent, with no crashes or performance issues, even at the highest graphics quality setting. The animations and colors were well displayed and I was able to have fun for hours before moving on to testing the other title.

Galaxy Book4 Edge running Overcooked! 2 (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

I also managed to run Asphalt 8: Airborne at maximum quality without crashes. The battery went from 50% to 20% in 3 straight hours of use, which I consider impressive.

The big point here that you need to understand is that, as of this writing, ARM architecture processors are still limited and only time will bring more options. New technologies take time to be implemented and even if there is a Integrated Adreno GPU to the processor, the Qualcomm is held hostage by companies. And we, as end consumers, cannot do anything to improve this.

If you are the type of who focuses on running several more advanced games on your notebook, it is not yet time to invest in a model with a processor architecture. ARM. This is because it will be necessary to wait for the adaptations to be made.

Application Performance 2m3r2o

Everyday applications are ready to run on ARM architecture (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

If the compatibility problem is big in games, the same does not happen here when we talk about applications: productivity application developers have already done the work that should have been done by game developers.

Most of them work very well, with the exception of one: the WhatsApp. There have been situations where the messaging app Meta It simply disconnected from the internet, even when my Wi-Fi was working perfectly. See the message below:

To solve the problem, I had to disconnect the profile and then reconnect it. Clearly, Meta, despite me using the version for ARM processors, has not yet performed the complete conversion. Time will tell how this will work; but I will record the negative experience during the production of this review.

Other everyday apps also worked well here: Slack, a business chat app, did not present any problems in its ARM version. The same happened with the Google Chrome, no connection or compatibility errors: everything I did on my everyday notebook, which has an x64 architecture processor. So far, so good.

Notebook works well without crashes, even with a different architecture processor (Photo: Disclosure)

In this way, the model serves as a good productivity partner for those who want to study, write and even edit photos, as the Photoshop and the rest of the Adobe suite is also optimized to run on the ARM processor with Windows.

Finally, I decided to edit a one-minute video in CapCut, with transitions, effects, videos and subtitles: the content was exported in 4K quality in just one minute, without any hiccups in the editing process. A notebook ready for anyone who works with content production.

Windows 11 runs from day one (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The Galaxy Book4 Edge arrives in Brazil with Windows 11 installed at the factory, but there is an interface integrated into the notebook that Samsung calls Book UI, to enable integration with your Galaxy ecosystem devices through various applications.

My favorite of them is the Samsung Flow, which allows what was copied to the cell phone to be seen on the computer, through an exclusive window, including being able to see the screen and give commands without picking up the cell phone.

Samsung complements experience with its own apps (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

You can also control the mobile device by Multicontrol, how to use the mouse, send a message written on the notebook keyboard and use the pointer continuity on the cell phone. Something interesting to have here.

Through the Samsung Settings, inspired by the menu of One UI Tweaks, the smartphone interface of Samsung, you can to your Samsung and change video and sound standards, choose how to receive notifications, security and also see personalized battery information.

Samsung Settings resembles smartphone menu (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Other apps like Samsung Studio are also very complete and work well with the ARM processor; you can see that the Korean company tried to have its own version of CapCut and, although it is far from being a strong competitor to the option of ByteDance, it works very well and allows files saved on your smartphone to be synchronized so you don't have to do the work of sending files.

Samsung Studio resembles TikTok (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Already talking about D, it allows you to use the tablet as a second screen, something I couldn't test here, but there is for Galaxy Tab S7/S7+/S7 FE (with One UI 3.1 or higher), S8/S8+ and S8 Ultra, Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro, S9/S9+/S9 Ultra/S9 FE/S9 FE+, Active5 and the recent Galaxy Tab S10+ and S10 Ultra.

Galaxy tablets can be used as a second screen (Photo: Disclosure)

A central SmartThings, to control connected devices or even locate your devices is also available. It is a great option for those who spend a lot of time on the computer and would like to control everything from a single screen.

You can clearly see that, like other notebooks I've tested over the last three years, the Samsung has worked to ensure that its products have a good connection and a similar interface, which, directly, also helps people buy more and more devices that are part of the same ecosystem.

This gives points to those who already have headphones, smartphones or tablets from Samsung and would like to have a notebook integrated with the devices you already use on a daily basis. The (wireless) connection is smooth and you can work with a good dynamism that only devices manufactured by the same company would do.

Artificial Intelligence and Galaxy AI 225k2c

Circle to Search works remotely and is very assertive (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The Galaxy Book4 Edge has an NPU integrated into its processor that does the basics we know so far: through the Windows and without depending on an internet connection, it can blur the background directly in the camera app, through the Windows Studio.

Another use of AI without internet is the generation of subtitles in videos and video calls, with the transcription being done in real time. It is a very useful feature, which can help in video calls with people outside and which makes a difference in the daily life of those who have a routine like this.

Processor NPU can generate subtitles without needing the internet (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

When we turn on the internet connection, you can make use of artificial intelligence Windows Copilot, which can be “called” with the simple push of a button. Using the Chat GPT as a base, you can ask the AI to change a simpler system setting and even “talk” to it, just with an internet connection. Copilot can also create images from text commands.

Using Copilot on the Galaxy Book4 Edge is very assertive (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

O Paint has AI tools that require internet: you can create a sketch from scratch and, after a few seconds, receive a complete photo in different styles through Paint CoCreator.

Using Paint Cocreator on the Galaxy Book4 Edge is very assertive (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

To use it, you need to to your Microsoft and use the credits given free of charge on a monthly basis. See the result of my draft after a description made in the window:

Photo generated from sketch (Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

About Paint's image creator, it's here, but you need to be a subscriber to the Microsoft 365 plan, which costs from R$51,00 per month. If you're a subscriber, you can take advantage of it to have a tool that creates images, already integrated into the Windows.

Image Co-Creator requires subscription plan (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

And here we have the big highlight: the Samsung had an ace up his sleeve to add value to his Galaxy Book4 Edge: use the AI of smartphones through a “bridge”.

I explain: when ing the application Link to Windows on Google Play Store on your smartphone Galaxy with for Galaxy AI, you just need to to your Galaxy AI . Microsoft and scan a QR Code displayed on the screen, without needing any wires.

Galaxy AI from smartphones can be used on Samsung's notebook (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

From here, all the apps on your phone that use Galaxy AI can run on your notebook, with the screen of the smaller device being mirrored. In other words: you can do a simple search with the Circle to Google Search and continue working calmly, as if you had a super intelligent personal assistant. See the example:

Circle to Search works remotely and is very assertive (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

in the use of Notes, which is even installed on Samsung's notebook, you can use Galaxy AI to summarize texts, create complete drawings based on sketches and more. It's like editing a photo on your computer, but in the same way you do on your smartphone. Check out this result:

Drawings can be created with AI (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

All Galaxy AI Features can be used fully due to this good integration, which makes the use more complete and, honestly, I think it's better than the Copilot, which still has its limitations.

If you don't have a Galaxy smartphone, you can still use the screen mirroring feature and functions on your computer, but the artificial intelligence functions will depend on what is available on your smartphone.

Audio and microphone 273w4k

Audio outputs are located on the bottom of the notebook (Photo: Disclosure)

O Galaxy Book4 Edge It has two studio-quality dual microphones (5Wx2 Max Woofer, 2Wx2 Tweeter) and two more dual speakers with Dolby Atmos . The sound emitted fills the entire room with higher tones without distortion.

Webcam 4j4g34

Samsung kept the same camera as the previous generation (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

More than three years ago, the Samsung opts to use lenses with maximum quality of 1080p in its notebooks. And, at the same time, I also hope that the lens in these models has 2K resolution so that we can have better video calls. I have the same comment that I made in my review of the Galaxy Book4 Pro and Galaxy Book4 Ultra: It didn't happen this time.

The camera performs well during the day, but it is possible to see distortions at night. The background effects, automatic framing and adjustment are the highlights, all controlled by the processor's NPU. These are features that make a difference for those who participate in many video calls throughout the week.

NPU can natively blur backgrounds (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

However, the comment remains that the present lens will not work miracles if the original resolution is not high. It is possible to take photos at up to 2 MP that look good during the day, with the of natural lighting, but there will be problems at night. Check out this selfie in good natural lighting:

Outdoor photo has great quality (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The camera isn't all bad, actually: it just doesn't deliver something of such quality when we look at competitors where selfies and video calls are delivered with great quality.

Memory and storage 92e1o

Notebook has 512 GB of internal storage (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The model arrives in Brazil with 512GB storage via PCIe Gen 4 SSD. In a matter of RAM, he has 16 GB to run all applications and features. I used the model more for writing and other demands for the showmetech, with it working and also opening files quickly.

Even heavier games ran well here: Asphalt 8 e Overcooked! 2 started running within a few seconds, with the same going for the operating system at the beginning of the day.

Connectivity (wireless) 1r1n6w

The model connects to Wi-Fi 7 points and has Bluetooth 5.3 for connecting wireless devices. Those who have Samsung devices can benefit from the integration with the ecosystem. Galaxy, such as using a Galaxy Tab as a second screen and share files between your smartphone and notebook.

Here at home, I have an access point with 2.5GHz and 5.0 GHz connections, which worked very well during testing. The only connection problem is actually the incompatibility with some applications like WhatsApp, but this should be resolved in future updates.

Battery 554u5p

Battery has impressive duration (Screenshot: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

The battery of the Galaxy Book4 Edge with a capacity of 61,2Wh it lasts a long time, due to its processor with differentiated architecture.

A Samsung promised 27h in cases of video playback during the launch event and I got half of that when using the notebook for internet work, listening to music and games, all in a single cycle, reaching 14 hours. It's impressive when you consider that notebooks with older Intel processors only last for 3 hours at most.

The box also has a charger. 65w that recharges not only the device, but also other smartphones, tablets, watches and headphones with a USB-C port. You can leave all the chargers for this device at home and just carry the one for Galaxy Book4 Edge.

USB-C charger can be used for a variety of tasks (Photo: Victor Pacheco/Showmetech)

Speaking of charging time, the battery needs two hours to be fully recharged, a fair exchange for a product that delivers more than ten hours of use (in a single cycle) on a daily basis.

Price and availability 1s705x

Notebook is priced at R$8 (Photo: Disclosure)

As this review was being written, the Galaxy Book4 Edge It was still R$1 off its launch price. The device could be found in the following stores:

In Brazil, notebooks with processors Qualcomm are still in the process of arriving, this being Samsung's first with Snapdragon X processors. Among the competitors of the Galaxy Book4 Edge, we have the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus, which has the same processor and can be found for R$8.399.

Conclusion 60664y

(Reuters)

O Galaxy Book4 Edge It's a perfect notebook for those looking for versatility and great battery life above all else. Ultimately, if you have a Galaxy Book2 or even a Galaxy Book3 and you the Book4 Edge, you'll have a computer that will last you for years before you have to think about upgrading.

Surprisingly, its low-power processor is its biggest villain: companies are currently working to adapt their applications and especially games to the ARM architecture, so this might not be a notebook for those who value AAA games. Having a backlit keyboard here wouldn't be a luxury either, especially considering that it can be found for around R$8.

It is worth highlighting the good screen, good integration with smartphones with Galaxy AI and great integration with devices Samsung. For those who work with content production (written or audiovisual), the notebook is a complete option and will not deliver a bad experience. If you have other devices in the ecosystem Galaxy, the experience will be great.
