I need to start this review by saying that the Galaxy Watch Ultra is, in fact, a device right out of the box. The all-black packaging is reminiscent of what we've seen on modern Galaxy S or Galaxy Z smartphones, giving it a touch of elegance right from the moment you receive the device.

There's no denying that the look of this model was inspired by the first Apple Watch Ultra from 2022. In addition to the more rectangular case, the special button is quite similar to what we saw the Cupertino company present two years ago. This, however, is not a negative thing: successful designs should be used by many companies.

Getting into technical , the box of the Galaxy Watch Ultra It measures 47 mm. It weighs 60,5 grams, which seems much less for everyday use, especially if you don't wear the device tightly attached to your wrist, which was my case. My arm isn't that thick, but the fit worked out well.

There are three buttons on the device: two for navigation and one more extra button, which can be used to activate pre-programmed workouts, open apps, and a rescue siren when pressed for five seconds. Here, it served me best to start weight training and not have to navigate through the system, bringing practicality.

The additional buttons also serve to display payment cards for less payments (NFC) and to access recently opened apps. I really liked that the experience hasn't changed here, so if you have a Galaxy Watch 4 or newer versions, you won't need to adapt to a new operating system.

Moving on to the box material, the Samsung has placed nothing less than titanium, in two colors: silver and black (we received the second option for testing). In addition to promising greater durability, this component also allows it to be resistant to seawater (up to 100 meters deep), while the front is protected by sapphire crystal, which prevents scratches.

Since we received the Black Titanium version, the orange strap comes in the box. But the Silver Titanium has a black strap, which gives it a more minimalist look. Due to the different arrangement of the strap connection points, you cannot use the straps from smartwatches launched in previous years by Samsung. Internationally, a White Titanium version was also put on sale, but it did not arrive in Brazil.

The change between the Galaxy Watch6 Classic and Galaxy Watch Ultra It's not just in the look of the box: the strap sent in the box is now thicker and more resistant, with a material that resembles rubber, but is very resistant and comfortable to wear on a daily basis.

But I noticed that the bracelet holder is a little less resistant, because after spending 15 days with the device, I noticed some scratches, as you can see in the photo below. It's not a big problem, especially because you won't be looking at it all the time. But it happened.

It can be said that the Samsung I wanted to deliver a complete experience: you notice the sophisticated care taken right from the design development, without any exaggerations that draw too much attention.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra's screen is a display 1,5 inch Super AMOLED, with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and a density of 327 ppi — the same values ​​seen on the 7 mm Watch44.

There's no denying that, despite looking larger in everyday use, it fits well on your wrist and even if you're not looking directly at the screen, you'll still be able to see all the information. I particularly like having everything in view so I don't have to keep scrolling from screen to screen to see some health data, so being able to see what I need with just a slight lift of my wrist is a huge plus.

As per the standard, we have for touch on the screen, but the rotating crown is something that stayed in 2023, in Galaxy Watch6 Classic. I understand the change, after all there would be no way to fit a rotating crown on this screen, but it was a bit missed when I had to switch between training or health monitoring options. The lack of it is not a big problem, but it would be nice to have.

Navigating the settings application GalaxyWear, required to make full use of all Samsung wearable devices, you can activate a function that allows you to navigate the screen with gloves, with the sensitivity becoming even greater.

Another hit from past generations is WearOS 5 with Samsung's interface. This way, you can enjoy famous apps like Strava, Nike Running and more, on the smartwatch screen and using your smartphone as a real control center. Even if you don't use a Samsung device in your day-to-day life, the One UI visual experience can be seen here, both in the app and on the watch.

Integration with other devices Samsung Galaxy It's perfect and there are some features that only work with smartphones manufactured by the company, such as taking a photo or stopping an alarm with the pinch gesture, in addition to measuring blood pressure and electrocardiogram, which we'll talk about later.

Sending emergency SMS also only works if you use a Samsung Galaxy. This worked when I combined the use of the Galaxy Watch Ultra with the Galaxy M35 5G, but my everyday cell phone was also able to be used to send a message to my emergency s.

In my daily life, I use a Realme 12 Pro + and I was able to use the basic functions, such as accessing training data, sleep monitoring, data such as body composition, daily step count, AGE indexes, heart rate, stress level, blood oxygen level during sleep and energy score.

Even though it's updated for 2024, I still think the layout of the installed apps could be better. Everything is still too close together and you might end up clicking on an option you didn't want at some point while you're training. But if you already use a Galaxy Watch, the interface is practically the same, but with some interesting additions in health monitoring that we'll talk about later.

All the watch faces seen on the 6th generation of the Galaxy Watch can be seen here, including some that I had liked in 2023, during the time I had the device released in 2024. But Samsung has also prepared some special watch faces for those who buy its smartwatch. We'll talk about them below.

It is very interesting that in addition to tracking sleep cycles, the device can capture the data and display it in a very didactic way, making it clear to both laymen and experts.

A feature that debuted on the Galaxy Watch6 line and returns on the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra lines is the ability to rate your sleep quality using animals. The Lion is the best-rated animal, while the Shark is the worst. To determine these details, Samsung's algorithm analyzes your sleep time, heart rate, oxygen level, and checks the consistency of your sleep between nights. See each one below:

While using the Galaxy Watch Ultra, I was able to identify myself as a Leo. I noticed that the explanations about our sleep are clearer in Wear OS 5, without having to go to the internet to understand some more complex .

We also have a recording of any snoring sounds you might make during the night, but you still need to have your smartphone nearby to do this fully. You can also use sleep coaching, which helped me achieve the Lion rating seen in this review.

Finally, it is worth highlighting the Energy Score, which uses data from sleep, physical activity and frequency to give a score from 0 to 100. It was clear that the time we spend resting is essential for this, because in situations where I went to bed later, the score the next day was terrible. See the example:

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is very accurate in its sleep monitoring and the most interesting thing about it is that it works all night long so that the has access to various data as soon as they wake up. The accuracy in knowing when we go to sleep, wake up and also get out of bed, something seen in past generations, is a huge positive point.

This is a smartwatch for those who do more intense sports activities, such as running and even triathlons. An exclusive feature of the device is Multisport, which allows you to up to three exercises for a more intense workout, namely: Triathlon, Duathlon, Aquatlon, special training with treill, bicycle and indoor running.

In addition, more traditional activities such as weightlifting, swimming, running, hiking, yoga and more are available for real-time monitoring on the device. The most interesting thing is that while you are doing the workouts, you can see the intensity through your heart rate, which, in total, is three: high, medium and low.

The watch also features automatic detection of some exercises, also seen in previous generations: Walk, Running, Cycling, Elliptical Trainer, Rowing Machine, Pool Swimming and Dynamic Exercise.

The great thing about the Galaxy Watch Ultra is its ability to monitor calorie loss and up to three activities at the same time, and you can also access important data from your day-to-day life to closely monitor your fitness, all with just one device. There's no way to say that with the of the Samsung Health platform, you can access interesting data about your workouts.

With the new sensor BioActive, which now has a cross shape to perform even more precise monitoring (and is an optical bio-signal sensor, of electrical cardiac signal and performs bioelectrical impedance analysis), we also had the debut of the measurement of the AGES index (acronym for Advanced Glycation End Products and which can be translated as Advanced Glycation End Products Index).

But Samsung doesn't say much about what to do with this information, so it's worth using it as a small parameter and always rely on the opinions of qualified doctors who will guide you. Who knows, maybe the measurement will get better in a while.

Other features that we've seen in past generations can also be seen in the more complete model: you can still measure your heart rate via electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure, but you need to have a Samsung smartphone connected to mobile data (Wi-Fi alone is not enough).

People with uteruses can also track their menstrual cycle and get predictions about when their period will arrive using the temperature sensor in the watch. Overall, the accuracy seen in previous generations is improved by the new sensor. BioActive, now with even more assertiveness.

In my review of Galaxy Watch6 Classic, I said that the battery of the 2023 model was its great Achilles heel, because, with all functions activated, it did not exceed 18 hours on. For the year 2024, Samsung not only increased the battery capacity, going from 300 mAh to 590 mAh, but also placed the three-nanometer Exynos W1000 processor that promises to be 40% more economical compared to what is present in the previous generation.

I had a brief surprise, but I still believe we are far from ideal: with intense use, I managed to reach 43 hours (1 day and 19 hours) of use of the device, with physical activities being monitored, in addition to heart rate, steps and more. If you are thinking of buying the model to spend a weekend isolated from the rest of the world and need to monitor this as completely as possible, it may be a good idea to take an external battery.

There is an economical sports mode that leaves continuous monitoring aside to deliver a longer battery life. With it, I reached 52 hours of use.

Finally, we also have the economy mode that allows you to use the device only as a watch, turning off all sensors and leaving only the screen active. In this case, I reached 4 days of use.

A Samsung has given a great upgrade in battery capacity and processor, but to have access to all the features, know that you won't spend more than two days away from a power outlet. It's better than what we saw in Galaxy Watch6 Classic.

The charger included in the model's box does a good job: measuring 1 meter long, it recharges the entire battery in 01 hour and 45 minutes, but I would like to highlight the 50% battery recharge in 30 minutes. And the tip from the 2023 review is still worth it: it's worth leaving the watch plugged in before leaving the house so that you can use all of its features to the fullest.

One thing I really liked is that even if it turns off due to low battery while a workout is being recorded, when it is turned back on, nothing will be lost. It's a nice feature to have in case you go out to exercise and your battery is low.

It is fair to say that in addition to maintaining integration with its own devices, the company has managed to develop a great smartwatch.

The extra button, despite seeming simple, is a great shortcut that brings practicality, but it can also be a good factor for anyone who has an accident and needs help. Its processor, in addition to being more economical, is also well optimized for WearOS, which is by far one of the best decisions the company has made. Samsung has already taken in recent years.

Therefore, what still beats the model a lot is its price: you will have access to a large portion of benefits, but, at the moment, you will need to pay around R$ 4 thousand. If you have a smartphone from Samsung and want the best smartwatch the company has ever developed, the experience will be spot on.
