as we a few weeks ago, was launched in Brazil the Samsung Gear Fit2. We got a unit like this SmartWatch to test here at showmetech, where it was possible to explore the possibilities that the device provides. Below you can see the complete analysis about these tests:
The Smartwatch
The first impression already left me quite excited, because the device is very beautiful and discreet. Something desirable for those who intend to use it in their day-to-day, with street activities. A really high quality finish. Furthermore, the model has certification of IP68 protection, which guarantees water and dust resistance.
Design
The rubberized bracelet has a good fixation, something I've had problems with some smartbands that fall off the wrist with some ease. There are two sizes of wristbands, allowing both skinny people and those with wider wrists to wear comfortably. But pay attention when purchasing, as only one bracelet comes with the device (choose the size before buying). In short, the GearFit 2 It's beautiful and functional!
The main screen can be changed by choosing from several options available in the Samsung Gear app. Some imitate analog clocks and others are more complete, even displaying calories, steps and heart rate.
Initial Settings
Initial settings are a little tricky. to use the device, you need to install 3 or 4 apps. For each of them, a screen is displayed with a huge contract, asking for acceptance. This procedure could be much simpler. But, after everything is configured on the smartphone, use is extremely easy and intuitive.
Performance
The operating system that runs on the equipment is the Tizen, bet of Samsung far from A. rotating on a 1GHz dual-core processor e 512MB de RAM memory, which are more than sufficient for the existing functionality. In general use it seemed quite good to me, even when following a longer walk, of about 40 minutes, marking the path without error and without the need for a smartphone.
Features
There is still a quick access area which, as in the Android, is displayed by swiping the screen from top to bottom. It displays battery percentage information, Bluetooth connection, screen brightness control, do not disturb mode and a shortcut to the Music Player. But unfortunately, they didn't provide a shortcut to activities or timer that are in progress, something I really missed.
In addition to being able to navigate using touch on the screen, there are 2 side buttons. The larger one is used to return to the previous screen. The smaller one is used to access the area of internal apps such as settings, alarms and timer, as well as control of water and coffee intake and monitoring. The display order of these items can be configured on the smartphone through the Samsung Gear.
Like Fit2 has Internal gps, you don't need to bring your smartphone to monitor activities. For some of them, it is not even necessary to start monitoring, because it already recognizes that the is walking or running, starting automatic monitoring.
When you finish the activity, you can share it on social networks directly from the watch screen, but it needs to be paired with the phone to connect to the internet. If you share via health, on your cell phone, you can still choose a customized image of the Olympics created by Samsung and will be available for a limited time.
SHealth Software
Speaking of health, this is the samsung app to monitor sports and health activities. Unfortunately, the GearFit 2 only has integration with this app. If you usually monitor your activities with another app, you will have to switch or monitor with two apps.
An innovation of health is the option to compete with friends who also use the Samsung, something really fun and motivating. With it, it is possible to create performance comparisons between two or more people, encouraging the desire to practice physical activities.
Music
O Gear Fit2 has 4GB of internal storage, being almost 2GB used by the operating system. 2GB remaining songs you can store songs to listen to with a headset Bluetooth without the need for a smartphone. Unfortunately there is no way to sync offline playlists from audio apps like Spotify ou Deezer.
The existing media control on the watch allows you to control the playback of music on the smartphone and in this case there is integration with the players. There is even an option to control the playback volume.
Battery
The battery life was something that positively surprised me. Whenever we talk about a smartwatch, there is a concern about the battery that lasts about a day. As GearFit 2 there is no such concern.
I left all smartphone notifications enabled on the watch with active vibration. I used it to track two 20-minute walks a day and sometimes some other activity. Heart rate meter was enabled on automatic, which takes a reading every one or two hours. And I left the brightness a little below half. after 24 hours of use the device still had more than 50% battery.
My habit was to leave it charging during my bath and dinner. On one of the days, I got home late and didn't charge. Even after two days of use it still had 20% battery. The battery can be fully charged in just over half an hour. Loading is done by a However, special for it, which allows the clock function to be accessible even while charging.
Smartphone Integration
What I missed the most was greater integration with the smartphone. It is not possible to turn off a smartphone alarm by Fit 2, for example. Some app notifications cannot be dismissed from the watch screen. The options offered are to display on the smartphone or block all future notifications from the app.
Bearing in mind that the idea of a SmartWatch is to avoid taking the phone out of the pocket, this type of behavior is strange, as it forces us to take the smartphone out of the pocket, for a simple task like dismissing a notification or turning off an alarm.

This device really impressed me for the quality of workmanship and features. I really regretted the moment when I had to send it back to Samsung. It's not the kind of equipment anyone would regret purchasing.
