This is the premise of one of the most popular series of the late 80's, coming to the video game at its best in the famous cartridge NES, considered by many to be the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game of all time. yw2i

As Ninja Turtles was very popular during the 80's and 90's, ion materialized and extended through toys, movies, books and, of course, video games. Thus, great classics of the time were released, mainly because of their gameplay, making fans happy in arcade, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and Game Boy.

One of the biggest highlights is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time, made available for arcades and Super Nintendo in 1991. This title became a reference for games beat'em up, with the possibility of playing with 3 more friends in arcades, something innovative at the time. Even with several enjoyable (others not so) successors, none had reached the level of enthusiasm and execution that Turtles in Time had achieved to date.

There are many games that aim to revive classic franchises and experiences, but end up delivering a disappointing end product. This is not the case for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, which is clearly an homage to the 1991 game, almost a love letter to the beat'em ups that were part of the lives of many players.

Em Turtles in Time, the Statue of Liberty is one of the central elements of the plot. She suddenly disappears, and while investigating, the turtles are sent to different times in history after falling into a trap. In Shredder's Revenge, the famous monument does not disappear, but is once again directly involved in the Destroyer's plans.

As April, Splinter and the Turtles watch TV, the show is suddenly interrupted. Destroyer e his Foot Clan announce the evil plan to capture the gigantic statue of New York to "reform" it. The team goes straight to the Channel 6 studios to clear up this story.

The events are unfolded through cuts between the phases with few lines, but with beautiful illustrations. A simple but satisfying narrative, after all, we are talking about a beat'em up. What matters is that the scenarios and events unfold with incredible fluidity!

Lets go to what matters! Streets, parks, sewers, TV studios and even a parallel dimension are all part of our journey to stop the Destroyer's plans. All this the way a good game of the genre calls for: punching enemies along the way, from left to right.

For this, the turtles rely on a series of quite varied movements. In addition to the “standard” kicks and punches, the entire team of brothers and allies can perform air attacks and throw the enemy in various ways. One of the coolest news is that the Super Attacks do not consume the characters' health. Titled "Ninja Power", the new special bar fills as we punch bad guys or use the “taunt”.

There are also dodges, rolls and other jumps (front and back) as tools to apply in strategy. Oh, and we can still combine them. For example, when we press jump + attack together, a flyer is unleashed. At the beginning of the game, the tutorial explains the functions of each button very well. THE Masamune agency it also helps with top-notch localization in subtitles.

During impacts, the screen flickers slightly, making hitting and bumping even more fun. Parking meters, hydrants, beams, shopping carts, Ceiling antennas, explosive canisters, the entire environment can be used to your advantage in combat. Not to mention the enemy's weapons: they are bows, axes, bows, kunais and much more. Thus, the game forces you to regularly review your strategy.

Finally, the classic pizzas are scattered here and there. Regenerative Pizza, Power Pizza e Spinning Pizza — perfect for replenishing health and performing special moves.

All the visual elements of a great beat'em-up are present in TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. There's a huge level of connection between the punches, thanks to perfect pixel placement and flawlessly applied sound effects. 

The levels have great flow and stay interesting from start to finish. Try playing on a Saturday morning, you won't be able to do anything else: the soundtrack de Tee Lopes (from Streets of Rage 4: Mr. X Nightmare, Sonic Mania), together with the action transport you to lighter days. If you didn't play any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles titles as a kid, the effect will still be similar, as encountering enemies selling candy or operating TV cameras will make you smile. With varied environments, the skate es or hoverboard are my favorites, just like when I played when I was 8.

Finally, the artistic direction is excellent, with a pixelart. It's an avalanche of colors and refined animations, which confirms the strong homage to Turtles in Time, with small modern touches.

In the past, playing with 3 more friends was a dream. Now, imagine inviting 5 friends to enjoy the frenetic combat of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. Are 6 playable characters on screen!

Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo e Donatello, Master Splinter, April O'Neil e Casey Jones, available after clearing Story Mode, are options to form the team. Basic combat mechanics are shared between characters, who have different attributes, strength, and range. For example, Raphael's strength is maximum because he is more violent, but his know do not have a good range.

There are challenges that give extra bonuses in each stage. Some of them are: knocking down two opponents with one special, not taking damage during the entire mission, or dealing the same blow 5 times.

The 16 stages of Shredder's Revenge can be completed in about 3 hours, which for many is a quick playthrough. But don't worry, the gameplay is addictive and ideal for replaying several times.

The possibility of having 6 players simultaneously is a great icing on the cake in this great tribute to beat'em ups of the 1990s and the fantastic episode of 1991.  Based on its novelties, this must be the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title in the gaming world of all time.
