The Xbox Series X's impressive speed with launch titles confirms that it will set the new standard for gaming of the decade; we tested it and tell you everything here in the review

For years, eager gamers around the world have been waiting for the next generation of consoles to arrive. The leaders of the dispute, Microsoft e Sony, stand out for bringing even better hardware than previous models in an attempt to raise the bar for graphics and performance. Both also came with two versions of their releases, one that prioritizes digital games and the other with a disc player – in the case of Microsoft, Xbox series s e Xbox Series Xrespectively. 2m1h6d

However, the company founded by Bill Gates has an ace up its sleeve that distances it from the competitor. They deliver true backwards compatibility with previous consoles and have a subscription plan that guarantees a hundred games from the first day your Xbox is with you. It sounds too good to be true, but after a dozen hours of playing the Xbox Series X I say: the new video game is the right bet of the new generation. In this review, I report the performance tests and also the strengths (and weaknesses) of the powerful machine that will hit stores on the 10th of this month.

REVIEW: Xbox Series X, the definitive console for the new generation of video games

Even with the symmetrical dimensions of a cobblestone (15.1 x 15.1 x 30.1 cm), the Xbox Series X is incredibly compact if we think about what it carries inside: the Zen 2 U 8X Cores at 3,8GHz, 16GB of shared RAM, a RDNA GPU 2 da AMD of 12 teraflops and the storage 1TB SSD. In your connections we have 3 ports USB 3.1, One HDMI 2.1 and ethernet input.

The sturdy console has a base that almost forces you to stand, as it is not removable. “Almost” because on the right side we see four rubbers, an option given by Microsoft if the Xbox Series X only fits sideways in your rack. Another sign that it should be left upright is the characteristic logo, which lights up when the console is on.

Console symbol, which is also the on/off button, is lit in games

Unlike the previous generation, when the Xbox One was sold as an “entertainment hub”, the X series reinforces that it came with the proposal of being a powerful video game console. Of course, it still plays 8K videos and has a Blu Ray player, however, it abandons HDMI signal input and optical audio output. Depending on where it is connected, it still s Dolby Digital/Atmos or DTS 5.1 and even 7.1 (L-PCM) systems.

The only option, for now, is to purchase it in matte black. The piece will not go unnoticed in any setup, reminiscent of a computer case – inside and out – cut in half.

Xbox series x green and black top
O grid green under the black surface can fool the eye at first glance – it deserves to be highlighted for its beauty!

The look (trigger for trypophobes) full of holes is not just for the style, because just turn on the Xbox Series X and see how exhaust air really works. At the top there is the cooler which serves as the base/rear air outlet of the console. After playing 4 hours between the tests of this review, I left my hands close to the grid and I can say it with confidence: it heats up, but not enough to worry in the long run.

A surprise was the silence of the powerful “black box”, even with half a dozen games and applications open (in the background). You have to get close and concentrate to hear the least amount of noise. Compared to previous video games and notebooks, it can be considered quite quiet.

xbox series x rear
The additional 1TB storage even resembles the old memory card slots (Disclosure)

Speaking of memory, of the total 1TB storage, we have 802GB reserved for ing games after installing the system files. You even get an additional 1TB with Seagate's exclusive external storage (slot special on the back), sold separately, without harming the speed of the console's SSD.

Optionally, you can attach an external HD and use it as in other consoles, for storing media and various files – except games. In a year where many non-exclusive AAA releases occupy at least 100GB of the machine (the trend, of course, is to increase with the new generation), perhaps the only way out for those looking for a vast library is one of these add-ons.

Control 5d4m4p

xbox series x controller
New button and new textures, but the same control as always

Control was one of the points where Microsoft decided to stay connected to the past – that is, they don't need to change something that worked two generations ago. The matte texture predominates and the rough surface helps in the grip, everywhere: triggers, analogs and in the rear. That is, everywhere they are always in with the player, a positive point on the part of practical design.

There are pleasant clicks, especially with the path directional (the “small arrows”). By the way, the design and the tactile aspect of the eight directions are very reminiscent of Pro controls, such as the Xbox's own. At the level of comparison between the world of gadgets, it is as if we went from the popular deep switches of a mechanical keyboard to the clickable switches, lighter and more responsive.

On top of other buttons, we have the new “share” button in the center of the control, which allows you to save screenshots, videos or open the gallery. Within the settings of X series you can remap each one and edit the share shortcut options too. The traditional ABXYs are identical to what they were a decade ago, colorful and reflective.

Interface 3i6z6t

xbox series x interface
Familiar interface for Xbox owners may not suit everyone

Much of the agility Xbox Series X can only be understood by looking at the interface. Anyone who is used to Xbox One will feel at home, as there are very few differences, except for being more fluid and lively. We have a side menu pop-up, customizable home menu, and easy access to apps, games and the store. On the other hand, those who are not a fan of navigation will need some time to get used to it, as the unification of Microsoft also took place in the mobile application. In other words, there is no way to escape.

Inside the library, the s tab is very practical for those who like to put a series of games to for a long time. In the quick menu (pop-up) that occupies a portion of the screen, when selecting a game you have access to the entire queue and can prioritize one app/game over another. Regardless of the menu, it's a matter of practice until you understand quick shortcuts on the control, understand which menu you're going to fall back to, and realize that there's probably a simpler way to get to the item you want.

Xbox series x forza game interface
The side menu gives quick access to the main functions, apps and games

One problem I noticed is that sometimes the time estimate takes a while to appear, without indicating that it is “calculating” or anything like that. Meanwhile, right in the menu, you can already see the percentage estimate to start the title. With The Outer Worlds e The Witcher 3, was close to 25-30%, which has already left hours of playtime available while games slow down in the background.

A new generation feature, the Quick resume (or Quick Summary) allows you to switch between applications in a very short time. In most cases, it's between 5 and 8 seconds to go from one game to the next, leaving one of them on hold to resume whenever you want (as long as it s it, as with the vast majority of popular titles so far). Depending on the performance requirement, I was able to open 5 apps (one app and 4 games) and instantly switch between them all.

What really surprised me was to see that the Quick Summary worked even when disconnecting the Xbox Series X socket, to take the photos above, and reinstalled it on the rack. So the progress store in-game happens even in a sudden power outage scenario: the game would (in theory) be intact and ready for you to pick up where you left off.

games and performance 5i464y

At the Xbox event in July of this year, months before the launch of the Xbox Series X, it was learned that the previous generation games would be backwards compatible and included in the Game , the subscription service with a library of a hundred games that comment below. Better yet, there are games from a decade ago with other Xbox models. Therefore, the personal collection of those who own an Xbox today is guaranteed with the Series X.

As an indicates Microsoft, several Gen One games will have improved performance with the Series X, but these were not properly updated in the test we did (mostly). Anyway, it's still a great way to "peek" what the developers promise. In the tests, I was able to check out several Game games and some brand new titles. Illustration images are all screenshots in-game or in the “photo mode” of those that the function.

Released just over a year ago, Gears 5 is part of one of the biggest Xbox franchises, Gears of War. The third-person shooter was optimized (and testable) on Xbox Series X. Synonymous with action, it even runs at 120 fps on compatible TVs, a great help when dealing with online multiplayer. In the campaign, we are left with the expected loading speed and breathtaking visuals.

Another optimized also with the tests was Ori and the Will of the Wisps, a platform game with an artistic and fanciful look. Those who followed the launch in early 2020 noticed that there was a huge inconsistency in performance in both versions (console and PC). I'm happy to say that within the first few hours of gameplay, this was eliminated when running it on Series X.

In the first person shooter game Doom Eternal I felt a slight contrast from 4K/60 frames compared to the maximum 1800p/60 frames (or Quad HD +) of the previous generation. The machine's effortless stability in maintaining very high refresh and resolution in an agile game of this level, results in an immersive experience of Doom.

We can add this to the loading of levels last 5 seconds only, while the checkpoint post-death is virtually instantaneous - there's only the back-and-forth animation to the menu, but the load bar kicks in at 100%. In all its glory, Doom Eternal in Series X became a brutal and excellent request, especially for those who played the successor and the Eternal on another console.

With Forza Motorsport 7 we see the refined attention to the vibrations of control. Asphalt tracks, collisions and gear shifting: it all translates into the feeling of the lucky ones who have ergonomic control in their hands. Audio and visuals are evenly matched on the podium as track reflections and lighting effects are extremely realistic in contrast and color.

Meanwhile, the “street” version of the franchise, Forza Horizon 4, squanders its optimized graphics in extreme climate difference scenarios. It's been optimized since testing, so it'll be even better with the launch of Xbox Series X. Filled with snow and mud, the smallest particles flung towards the camera transport you to the tracks like never before.

other sports, eFootball PES 2020, which was launched last year, brought the expected performance inside the football fields. Even with the long time gap between his debut and the console tested, the graphics and light animations make all the difference in Series X for those who enjoy the sport.

Sea of Thieves, a game well-liked only months after updates, is another title optimized on Xbox Series X. In the dozen hours well spent on the console, it was the only game that I could check the fluidity also in online mode with other players. The objective of the game is to explore the seas with fellow pirates, in unknown waters full of creatures to face. Even with cartoon textures, realistic sun and sea conquer the viewer.

Now, in the case of Mortal Kombat XL, the game with the lowest graphic quality among the ones I tested, I realized the “new high standard” of the current generation. It was like taking a (motion capture) game from 2015 and comparing it to a (polygonal) game from 2005. Overall, it was a good gaming experience, which certainly did its best on Series X.

Quick resume 6c6wg

Xbox series x doom eternal
Doom Eternal it worked with Quick Resume 95% of the time (and until the Series X release this should round up to 100%!)

Switching from one game to another took a 10 second average, between the Xbox button being pressed, a title selected from the quick list and it being fully playable. I did it with Strengths e Mortal Kombat: From one to the other (both lanes), the Quick Resume itself took between 6 and 8 seconds on this powerful console – between mid-race and a fight. So, even if you are slow to switch between open apps and take a long time to choose the game that interests you, know that it will be controllable in less than 10 seconds.

The only problem with Quick Resume was with Doom Eternal, when an error appeared on the screen and the game decided not to work, having to restart it. For the rest, everything went well, even with surprising speed. An important warning: the testing period precedes the actual console experience on launch day, so it is very likely that "chokes" like this will be resolved within this week.

Game , the strongest point of the generation in45

Have you ever thought about taking advantage of first month of Xbox Series X with a catalog of over 100 games at the price of one real? That's what Game Ultimate provides, a cost-effective subscription plan previously mentioned here in the review. The only “gotcha” is the fact that the monthly fee rises to R$44,99 in its second month. This comes close to subscribing to streaming services like the model from Netflix, for example – one that provides 4K content.

Xbox game green box
A box of surprises is periodically updated, always with new games (Disclosure)

On the plan Ultimate, there is access to console and PC games, as well as certain discounts, free additional items on certain games, Xbox Game Studio (group of studios that make the exclusives) available from launch and subscription to play online, Xbox Live Gold. Who just wants games consul, you can opt for the respective economic plan (for R$29,99) and have almost the same benefits, except for Gold and certain offers.

Specifically, if we calculate the annual cost, the investment is advantageous for those who want the Series X. While with the purchase of individual games, you would get at most two games in a period of one year, with the Game you get hundreds of games for the same value. In addition, on November 10 there will be the inclusion of the EA Play in the package, the signature of the developer Electronic Arts that will add 89 games to the library.

ing that the floor of the value of games almost doubled in less than three years. While in 2017 we had launches for R$200 (and smaller exclusives, like spin-offs, for R$150), today we have a increase of 75%. We can take as a reference the exclusives of the competition sonysta: less than 5 months ago one of the most anticipated games of 2020, The Last of Us II, was on pre-sale for R$200 and after the launch the price went up; in contrast the new game of Spider-Man arrives for R$350 (today in Amazon, for R$330) in the new generation.

There are no downsides, no questions. In a rational way, a player leaves for an infinitely economical investment when betting on the Game renewable catalog. Optimized games, an excellent library from the day you purchased the Series X, and all this with a monthly subscription for less than R$50.

Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S? 484m2z

series x vs series s

Here at Showmetech we tell you the main differences between both consoles, which hit stores on the same day (November 10). However, to recap: the S series is made for those who want to enter the new generation economically with decent U, does not require 4K games and will focus only on digital games.

The Series X is for those who have an intermediate/ TV, for those who enjoy physical media or for those who just want a more powerful machine with an investment to last longer – with ease. By the way, the Series S can be a great option for those who simply want to give a upgrade more economical, as it is R$1.800 cheaper than the Series X with equivalent sacrifice of storage memory, resolution and fps.

Conclusion 60664y

O Xbox Series X it is a machine that will dictate the generation of games and, consequently, is the gateway to the decade of games to come. While the leap from the previous model to this one isn't that big in of graphics (textures and animations, in general), it's in performance that we see the evolution. speed of loading, multiple games open simultaneously, 8K video capability and games at up to 120 frames per second are just a part of what makes up the experience of playing an Xbox.

REVIEW: Xbox Series X, the definitive console for the new generation of video games

Being, in particular, a console player who grew up with PlayStation (PS2, PS3, PS4 and handheld), since I saw the releases in July of this year with Game I was won over by Xbox. I've never seen games from the perspective of “clubism”, but the watershed reality needs to be recognized in this new generational transition. With greater relevance in exclusive games, the fight between giants is still complex, but as a matter of cost-benefit, Microsoft's new truly backward compatible generation is a point unsured by any competitor so far.

Have a brand new console in hand – with the option to opt for a more affordable model! – along with a huge, rotating library of games is certainly a mainstay when talking about the new Xbox. After all, this needs to be prioritized when putting long-term investment in the balance. And that's a guarantee of the Xbox Series X, the sure bet among the new consoles.

O Xbox Series X, which together with the Series S had review of Xbox series s, Microsoft's entry-level model for the new generation of consoles.

So, which next-gen console will be yours? Tell us in the comments.
