Do you often worry about the lifespan of a notebook when buying a new model? Often the point to consider is how fast your setup will become obsolete, after all, desktops with a case generally give more freedom to change parts than more compact laptops. 26262u
Following this reasoning, we have a great example with the recent release of Samsung Book X45. The computer delivers good performance out of the box and there is still an opening (both figuratively and literally) for exchanging hard disk and memory. We were able to test it in several scenarios and let you know how it did, here in this review.
Design 145g70
As a way to update the notebook portfolio in 2020, Samsung decided to merge the Essentials and Expert lines by replacing them. by the Books line, in June this year. The design of all is the same at first glance, but it's under the housing that we see the main differences. The Book X40, X45, X50 and X55, for example, come with a dedicated graphics card, while the others (E20-X30) have an integrated card. There are, of course, still several variations of storage and memory – all to the customer's taste.
Addressing specifically the look of the model in this review: the Samsung Book X45 has huge trackpad, screen with a 6.7 mm bezel and less than 2 centimeters thick (18.9 mm). On the outside, the silver color dominates the robust plastic piece, with a black (matte) finish on the inside, on the screen and on the keyboard. Speaking of which, the keys are large and very low-profile, silent, on what the manufacturer calls a Lattice Keyboard – “with 10% larger keys than previous Samsung models".
Both on the source to charge the battery and on the X45 itself (upper left corner, just above the “F1”) we see a light indicator to indicate when both are on. They are lit in a static shade of blue, without blinking or changing color to indicate when the charge is low – weak point. Another point that leaves something to be desired is the lack of backlighting on the keys.
Connectivity and upgrades 6g55p
There is a vast list of connections to the Book X45. It has a card slot Micro SD, 2 tickets USB-A (2.0 and 3.0), 1 USB-C, 1 brings LAN, HDMI and audio input + output combo (microphone and headphone). Interestingly, the LAN port is actually a “port”, as it can be opened to hold the network cable – given that the normal thickness of the Book X45's base would make this impossible. It s Gigabit internet and also has Bluetooth 5.0.

In of memory, there is the RAM 8GB (DDR4) and modest storage 256GB SSD (NVMe). A strong positive point is the option that you can expand both memories with easy access, as it has rear doors, which need a “way” to open. This is important for anyone who wants a long-term machine that is suitable for upgrades in the future.
In particular, I found both covers to be very fragile – even if you, the reader, consider that I only had the notebook for testing purposes, the first impression made me be even more cautious when opening them. In just a single removal, so that I could understand how this exchange worked, I realized a high potential for plastic to be scratched with a simple screwdriver. Bad construction is no longer intuitive, even with those who are used to the delicacy of changing cabinet parts. They give the impression of being simpler, however, they still need tools.
Image and sound 6t3218
The notebook has an LED screen 15.6 inches in HD resolution (1366 x 768). This is perhaps the main negative point of the Book X45: having very good technical specifications, worthy of an intermediate, but still coming with an HD screen. Regarding viewing angles, the display is also not very satisfying, as a slight adjustment on the hinge makes the black tones grayer (and the colors lighter, in general).

It takes a very specific angle for a smooth viewing experience. On the table, both for browsing the internet and watching movies on Netflix, there are no problems. With no comparative point of an FHD screen, untrained eyes will surely find the lighting very good – the bare minimum, in the case of an intermediate notebook.
As a complement to the satisfactory image, we have the stereo sound, on the lower sides of the computer. As well as the integrated webcam, the audio serves more as a “fix” than would be a positive point for the Book X45. Due to the rebound when placing the computer on a wooden table, I had no problems understanding movie dialogues and no problems listening to music. While portable, image and sound are very pleasant.
performance in games 5b5e43
Equipped with the dedicated GPU NVIDIA GeForce MX110 Graphics, with 5GB GDDR2, Samsung's notebook proposes to be a powerful machine, even if it doesn't compare to laptops that sell themselves as “gamers”, intermediaries, with video cards also from NVIDIA. The Book X45 serves more as a powerful PC to handle everyday tasks and casual games without a drop in performance.
Because it is installed on the SSD, the boat system startup takes a few seconds. Apps and games also get off to a light start, ing that we have 256GB to enjoy and the additional option of a hard drive. Due to the ease provided, it is almost mandatory to purchase an extra HD for those who need a more routine use of the PC, dividing into which storage memory is best in each situation.
Anyone who is used to checking out computer reviews here on the site must have seen one of the most effective performance tests when talking about rendering. With the 20th edition of Cinebench, software derived from the 3D modeling program Cinema 4D, we see a score based on U performance and your connections.
With a total of 1211 points, we came to the conclusion of how fast the U acts in multitasking processing when using all available colors. The Book X45 has Intel Core i5 10210U processor (4 colors and 8 threads) and performed the rendering of the scenario in a few seconds. For comparison purposes, an i7 usually scores more than 1,5 points – see a 10th generation processor that we tested here.
On an increasing scale of demand, I tested games with animations that demand less from the machine: Celeste's e Ape Out. The first is a sidescroller platformer, the second is a 3D survival adventure. In both cases, the average frames per second was 60, even though sometimes it dropped to 30/40 frames right after loading a new level or scenario.
For those who want to have fun with independent games where art matters more than realistic graphics, the Book X45 does a great job even if it s everything in HD screen. By the way, this was the first time I finished the first full act of Ape Out, taking just over an hour of game play, which remained at the average commented (60 fps with falls that hit 30 fps).
The evolution leap took me to the game Metro 2033 Redux, the version with add-ons (from 2014) that originally came out in 2010. The first-person shooter rarely went beyond 20 fps in quieter settings, right in the introduction. A while later, with real interactions and a lot more action, I saw the Book X45 try really hard to stay above 10 frames. In it, however, I saw a great use of stereo sound to facilitate the spatial notion, with a more immersive aspect.
With this point of comparison, shooting games might not be a good choice to run around here. An exception is the cartoonish and colorful graphics of games such as Paladins e Overwatch, as both have basic textures and only ask for more from the GPU/U when there are conflicts with many players in the scene. In normal gameplay, they will likely run at the same rate as above (20 fps with drops).
If you really want to push the envelope with story games and don't care about fluid animations, you can try playing certain older games, with visually pleasing textures even at the minimum level. An example I tested was Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, 2014 game. There was zero consistency: in certain cutscenes it did not exceed 20 frames, in others it reached 30; when investigating inventory items ranged between 30 and 40 frames, while scenery exploration and NPC interaction flowed between the extreme mid-range of 20 and 40 fps.
Even so, by insisting on playing it from the beginning for the first time, I managed to distract myself for about an hour of game. I only stopped playing the game because the gameplay itself didn't please me. So, seeing the Book X45's slow performance in even more basic games, risking testing it with more demanding/recent titles was out of the question. With this base, it could even open heavy (open world) games, with a more evident “choking” and certainly without going over 20 frames per second, even with graphics at a minimum.

Still speaking of performance, a quick tour of battery: when the charge was almost complete, I decided to play with the notebook unplugged. Half an hour later, in casual play (Celeste's, one of the lightest games), I saw that there was still 75% of the battery left and 3 hours left. This was still in “standard mode” of performance, which was neither economy nor high performance – if you turned this on, the battery would drop to less than 2h20.
Then, it is clear that the battery life of the Book X45 is a midpoint that, in some scenarios, turns slightly negative. Using the browser to check social networks, work and watch YouTube videos, it lasted an average of 5 hours with medium brightness.
It is also worth paying attention to ignore the battery indicator, which in a short time of testing gave a problem when displaying the estimate (I had only used a full charge on the PC once). Only when I decay another 2% of the current load with the cursor over the indicator, it displays the estimate I calculated to be correct, as “50%” means plus or minus 2h30-3h duration.

Here I think it is also important to include the routine experience as a whole, when using the notebook with its enormous trackpad and comfortable keyboard. There's still minimal tactile from the keys, which are simple buttons, without tiring your fingers after hours of typing or gaming. One particular criticism I have of the keyboard is the choice of design with an empty space over the left/right arrows, which could very well be the same size as a number key, in uniform integration of the typing space.
Conclusion 60664y
The notebook Samsung Book X45 would have everything to be an excellent intermediary, but the first impressions in the tests limited him from having a better grade for the proposal presented. Clearly the HD screen is the main negative point of the whole package, with the construction of the machine acting in a balanced way in of design and practicality.

On the one hand, there is memory expansion, for HD (additional to SSD), an elegant finish and very comfortable keys. On the other hand, the fragility of the back covers, the limited viewing angle of the screen and the sacrifice of the size of certain keys (Enter and directional arrows, mainly) to house the NumPad, are slips that a buyer needs to consider. Regarding the cost-benefit ratio, it is within the market average: in stores like Magazine Luiza, it is sold by R $ 3.894,05 at sight.
In of performance, we have exactly what is proposed. THE Samsung Book X45 will easily open certain editing software (image and even video) and serves very well for the multitask of internet browsing. Anyone who is a fan of indie games can buy it and have fun. It's just not worth waiting for a big surprise when testing modern AAA games, which he can't handle.
