Created 26 years ago by Satoshi Tajiri, the franchise Pokémon it's been a global craze since its launch. With products that go beyond games, the series conquers fans all over the world in several areas of the entertainment industry. Since then many generations of pocket monsters have emerged and we are close to the launch of the 9th generation with pokemon scarlet e pokemon violet. On ShowmeCAST 116 this week, Daniel e Dacius take advantage of the special moment of the franchise to invite Andre Lucas, Pokémon professor and official tournament judge for the franchise, to talk about the games past and future. 17ng
Released to Game Boy for the first time in February 1996 exclusively on Japanese soil, the series was conceived from the hobby of a child — who would later become executive director of the franchise — which was collecting insects. Satoshi Tajiri used this ion for collecting animals to develop a game where the player could have their own species to play with. From this concept was born the Pokémon trainer, young people from all over the world who pursue the goal of becoming a master by collecting all possible species.

At ShowmeCAST 116 we talked about our first experiences with Pokémon, either through games or through drawing, which would be the first of many young Brazilians with the series. Released for the first time in 1997, however, having its fever on Brazilian soil mainly in the 2000s, the anime was broadcast by several broadcasters until it arrives today on streaming platforms such as Netflix e Amazon Prime Video.
The anime follows the adventures of a 10-year-old boy named Ash ketchum (Satoshi in Japan) who starts his journey across the world to become a Pokémon Master with his Pikachu🇧🇷 This one that became an icon of the entire franchise with collectibles, decoration objects, dolls and is currently an icon of pop culture alongside characters like Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny.

The cartoon was one of those responsible for popularizing the Japanese animation media in the West along with other successes such as Dragon Ball Z e Knights of the Zodiac🇧🇷 Drawing has become part of world culture and is a rage even today. Therefore, we take advantage of this ShowmeCAST 116 to also talk about the future of anime, since Ash Ketchum recently achieved his goal after more than two decades. We speculate about what will become of the future: will we have a new protagonist?
On ShowmeCAST 116 we talked about the Pokémon TCG (Trading Card Game) – the card game of the franchise – which has been a success since its launch and is one of the few products that arrive in Brazil simultaneously with the rest of the world translated into Portuguese. The card game was launched in Brazil in 2000 by Devir Livraria, being taken over by Copag in 2011, which was responsible for the explosion in popularity of the game in recent years. Being a worldwide success with the sale of more than 25 billion cards around the world, the Pokémon TCG was talked about in this week's podcast due to the possible change in the game, a consequence of the new mechanics implemented in Pokémon Violet and Pokémon Scarlet.

With Pokémon-Ex returning to the card game, we discussed a potential slowdown in the game with the return of Stage 2 Pokémon to main tournament decks. The most used mechanic at the moment is that of Pokémon-V, which makes all species of Basic-type cards that can be put on the field without requiring an evolution, despite the Pokémon being evolutionary, such as a Charizard. As such, we discussed at ShowmeCAST 116 the future of the card game and how these new mechanics could impact tournaments.
Finally, we present our ideas about perspectives for the future of games with the arrival of Scarlet and Violet. The new games are being launched with the aim of revolutionizing the gameplay of the series for an open world game with no defined order to carry out the game's activities, leaving the player more free to explore the world and do whatever he wants. What will all this impact on the competitive environment and what are the biggest risks of these new developments for the franchise?
