Formerly codenamed Nintendo NX, the Nintendo Switch was first teased on March 17, 2015 at a Nintendo conference with a Japanese smartphone game provider. At the time, then-president Satoru Iwata defined the new project as “a platform dedicated to games with a new concept is being created under the development codename NX”.

In October 2016, the Japanese company's new video game was revealed as Nintendo Switch. Confirming the rumors, the console would be a hybrid between a desktop video game and a portable one with controls that would allow it to be attached to the sides of the device that had a screen.

Unlike its predecessor, the company got it right in all its communication about what this new video game would be. Being the unification of its game lines for Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, the console would receive a huge list of games made by Nintendo itself and third-party companies that would the project in the following years.

In addition to games, the Nintendo Switch managed to embrace different audiences. From the youngest to the oldest audience, from fans of their franchises to people who like indie games. The console soon became the home of indies and one of the best places to play RPG with its ability to turn any game into a portable one with a simple move.

Its first year of release was largely responsible for its success with big games like mario odyssey, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley and many others present on the console.

On the other hand, the 6 years of Nintendo Switch were also marked with hardware problems and lack of software by the company. Its controls made with fragile materials that break even today with the owners, online services that are not made the way it should be as it happened in Splatoon 3, where servers would constantly go down and prevent players from taking advantage of its online features, and even an antiquated operating system without many options, which caused many players to criticize the device.

Great games marked the 6 years of Nintendo Switch and perhaps the biggest one so far is the game released at the console's debut. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild defined new heights within an open world adventure game with a freedom hardly found in video games and concepts that were not created by the game, but used in a creative and fun way.

Beyond, mario odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon, Bayonetta, Xenoblade Chronicles, Skyrim, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and many others, made the video game always have great launches and one of the most enviable libraries in history.

Its useful life is getting closer and closer to an end, already missing in the hearts of many players. But what does the future hold for Nintendo? A Nintendo Switch 2 or a new paradigm shift with an innovation following another path?
