The prototype called Sustainable School Technology Linked to Arduino was the great champion of the program in 2021. To solve the problem of high food waste in the school environment, the team of four students from Escola Estadual Professor Sebastião de Oliveira Rocha developed a biodigester which transforms discarded food into biogas, to be used in the school's stove. A calculator to help cooks prepare the proper amount of food was also part of the solution.

The chemistry teacher and project advisor, Barbara Guedes Rodrigues, commented that the students observed a waste, mainly due to the calculation of quantity, with more food being prepared than necessary. Thus, the food that will not be consumed goes to the biodigester along with portions of fertilizer. There are anaerobic bacteria in the fertilizer that decompose the organic matter. At the end of the process, the chemical reaction releases leachate and natural gases, called biogases.

This biogas is captured to be dammed and, later, used to supply school stoves to prepare meals. The fertilizing of plants in a school garden was also benefited by the released leachate, excellent for composting.

Solve for Tomorrow aims to encourage young people to develop their creativity and create solutions to real problems, developing their skills and promoting an improvement for the world we live in. The project developed by the students of São Carlos is another example of the role of education in solving the challenges of today”
