Plus, check out the new airplane-wing drone and details about a self-driving car race at this week's Showmetech TRIO!

Another week begins and, with it, we have another edition of Showmetech TRIO. The novelties include a new control tower of the SpaceX, great for space tourism to be even more popular in a few years. 403n39

In addition, you will meet the drone of the new series dragonfish, developed by Altar Robotics, whose main focus is to help specialists to have an aerial and more detailed view of places affected by natural disasters.

We close our trio of news this week talking about the autonomous car race in Las Vegas, last Friday (7), as part of the last day of CES 2022. A prize of more than R$ 850 thousand was presented to the team winner. Come check out everything you need to know to stay on top of the main news of the week!

SpaceX's new control tower revealed by Elon Musk 6e3w24

Developed so that the rocket Starship can make takeoffs and landings, SpaceX's new control tower had official images released for the first time. A footage taken with a drone was shared by Elon Musk on your Twitter .

The new control tower has a differential: the inclusion of “claws” that can be used as arms to assemble the various parts of the rocket that will be responsible for taking people into space.

Another interesting point of this new SpaceX project is the possibility that the same claws can also “grab” the Starship in the air, even when it is floating. The announcement is just one of several actions that the entrepreneur is taking so that investments in space tourism grow more and more.

Knowing that the rocket that will take people into space does not have the "landing legs", you must be wondering why this decision was made. But it's simpler than you can imagine: as this part of the rocket is one of the heaviest in the entire structure, the fuel consumption is consequently very high.

So, if you were thinking of taking a lot of people into space on a single flight, the SpaceX would have to spend a lot of fuel. The solution to solve this problem was to remove the “legs” from the model so that the fuel gain was compensated with a greater number of crew per trip.

A video taken by a on Twitter last year simulates the use of the new control tower of the SpaceX, which was even approved by the Elon Musk, check out:

After so many delays, the forecast is that the rocket from SpaceX make your first trip in March of this year, but still without the help of the claws. inspiration4.

Dragonfish, the new drone with airplane wings 3i5rd

What do you think of a drone model that works for more than just taking photos? Inspired by the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey military drone system, the series dragonfish is the bet of Altar Robotics to innovate in the drone niche. being the first model VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing, or Vertical Takeoff and Landing in translation) of the company, its differential is in the way that it allows the inclusion of fixed wings, similar to that of an airplane, which generate better performance and greater stability in the air.

The drone dragonfish is the first that is inside the ecosystem EVO Nest, another Autel launch that allows models to be recharged in just 45 minutes to start flying in open spaces. Talking about the specifications of the model presented during the CES 2022, it can fly between 120 and 180 minutes at a height of 6.000 km.

Weighing 7,8 kg, the drone dragonfish reaches a maximum speed of 108 km/h. In addition, it can be assembled for use in three minutes and, with the simple push of a button, a 5-second self-check is performed automatically.

More than simply being an option that has better performance compared to models that are already on the market, the manufacturer developed the drone dragonfish especially for professionals who need to have a quick diagnosis of regions affected by natural disasters, such as hurricanes, for example. John Simmons, representative of Autel, said at CES 2022 that this is the main purpose of the drone dragonfish.

The series drone dragonfish arrives as an alternative to facilitate the process with images recorded by a super camera that captures in 4K. Zooming your lenses is another feature that deserves your attention. With it, you can view noise-free images at up to 20x. This release also hits the market with a tablet that, in addition to serving as a control, can also be used to view images in high quality.

The price is not within the current drone options on the market: the dragonfish can be purchased for US$ 99,000 (about R$ 583.000 in direct conversion). The manufacturer also stressed that its new device has almost no maintenance costs, in addition to being made with ecological materials. Will we see one of these being used in the Brazil in the not-so-distant future?

Self-driving car racing at CES 2022 25a8

Known for anticipating news from smart TVs and more products that will be present in our day to day, the technology fair that returned to happen in person andm Las Vegas also featured a self-driving car race. It was the first time the city hosted an event like this.

A Indy Autonomous Challenge took place last Friday (7th) and, in total, five teams with students from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics courses were working to get their work in first place.

An interesting factor is that all the teams had the same car. The only difference between them was the technology developed for the sensors that identify the distance between other vehicles and avoid collision.

The qualifying round had nine teams with students from 9 countries (in total 21 universities were involved), but only five of them participated in the recent race. The main purpose, in addition to allowing students to put concepts into practice, is to encourage creativity, invention and improvement of technologies that will be on the streets soon.

The big winner of the autonomous car race was the team PoliMOVe, from Italy. Its took home the prize of US$ 150.000 (about R$ 853.000). THE Energy Systems Network, organizer of the event, hopes that the same techniques can be used in the professional market.
