Spotify subscribers will now listen to new albums exclusively
With this change, Spotify should improve its relationship with record companies

This Tuesday (4), the Spotify signed an agreement with the Universal Music Group that differentiates the catalog from s. Now, the label's artists can present their new albums exclusively to streaming subscribers for a short period. w204o

“From today, the artists of Universal can choose whether to release new albums only for s for two weeks, giving the subscriber the opportunity to explore the full creative work beforehand.” Daniel Eck.

Those who have free s, however, can continue to listen to Singles for free

This decision seems, at least, to ease the recurring conflicts between the record companies and the streaming service. After all, until then, the music catalog was the same for everyone, whether they were subscribers or not. So, a middle ground was reached: Artists can capitalize on the thirst for novelty, while free s have a relatively short wait.

Therefore, it is expected that other large companies in the market, such as Sony and Warner, follow the same path as Universal.

Spotify vs. musicians 1a641g

In 2014, weeks before the album's release "1989", Taylor Swift removed all of his music from Spotify and publicly took a stand against the free streaming service offered. In an article for the newspaper Wall Street Journal, wrote:

“[…] piracy, file sharing and streaming have drastically shrunk the numbers of paid albums… Music is art, and art is important and rare. Rare and important things are valuable. Valuable things must be paid for. It is my opinion that music should not be free.”

Following this same line of reasoning, Jay Z teamed up with other great artists and created a competitor to Spotify, managed by the musicians themselves. O royalties fairer.

The singer Adele, in turn, released their album "25" first only on CD and vinyl. After six months, he made his music available on streaming services. A similar strategy has been adopted before by Beyoncé and the english band Coldplay as a way to benefit retail stores.
