Company Oceangate, which conducts expeditions with submarines to the wreck site, had planned a new visit to the Titanic in May of this year, this being apparently the only record of a trip to the site. Despite the information, the exact origin of this missing submarine.

Recently, OceanGate announced on social networks that one of its expeditions was in progress. However, until this Monday (19), there was no communication from the company about a possible disappearance. No records related to this subject were found in the company's media either.

When accessing the OceanGate website, it is possible to that there is an expedition in progress and two more planned to take place in mid- June 2024. It is a ticket that costs US$ 250.000 (something around BRL 1.193.474,65 in direct conversion) which entitles you to an 8-day stay on the submarine to see the Titanic up close. A complete immersion, including the descent to the wreckage and the ascent to the surface, takes about eight hours.
Following successful expeditions to the wreck in 2021 and 2022, OceanGate Expeditions will continue to return annually to further document the Titanic and its rate of decay. Given the enormous scale of the wreck and debris field, multiple missions conducted over several years will be required to fully document and model the wreck site. This longitudinal survey to collect images, video, laser and sonar data will allow for an objective assessment of the decay rate and documentation of the process.

The Titanic is located approximately 3.800 meters below the surface of the sea, at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Its wreckage is approximately 600 km off the coast of Newfoundland, which is located in Canada. The transatlantic, which was the largest ship of its time, collided with an iceberg on its 1st trip, departing from Southampton, England, towards New York, in 1912 – that is, the tragedy occurred 111 years ago. More than 1.500 engers and crew died, of the more than 2.200 on board.

The ship has been extensively explored since the wreckage was discovered 73 years after the incident in 1985. It is divided into two parts, with the bow and stern separated by about 800 meters. A large field of debris surrounds the broken ship. In May 2023, the first Scan full-size view of the wreckage, with the help of deep-water mapping. The result showed not only the scale of the ship, but also some interesting details, such as the serial number of one of the propellers.
