The film tells the story of the marriage of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who, not knowing her biological father, invites the three "potential fathers" who marked the life of her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep). This idea sounds bad, doesn't it? Yes, because it is. The film takes place in Greece and, as you may already know, is an ode to ABBA's discography. It's certainly not one of the best movies on the list, but it's so fun and enjoyable to watch that I'd particularly recommend it as your next Friday night appointment (with glasses of wine, to get into the groove of the movie).
Despite mixed critical reception, Mamma Mia! was a box office success and won a sequel 10 years later with Mama Mia! There we go again (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again).

Mulan (1998) 232d8
7,6 on IMDB | 86% on Rotten Tomatoes | 71 on Metacritic

It's hard to have to leave some movies out, isn't it? the case of Mulan it's from a film that abandons the musical genre at a certain point in the narrative, and doesn't return with songs sung later. The moment when the music stops is very impactful and makes the narrative grow, so there is no criticism here about this choice of direction. However, the musical section is very good, which is why the film has space in our honorable mentions.

8,3 on IMDB | 98% on Rotten Tomatoes | 88 on Metacritic
Where to see: Disney +
Certainly, the desire to place Hamilton among his contemporaries was very strong, but the rule is clear: best musical movies, and in the case of the official recording of the piece in the Broadway, we could not consider it. However, Hamilton is a phenomenon of recent years and has become a must-stop for anyone who loves musicals.
Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical is about American independence with its focus on Alexander Hamilton, the first US Secretary of the Treasury and one of the country's founding fathers, fighting alongside George Washington. Listening to it like that, it might not sound so interesting, right? However, the story is told entirely through rap, in its two and a half hours of uninterrupted music. The cast also includes black actors representing iconic American personalities such as Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.
